    XDm Open.

I can have a better picture of anything you want! BTW. I more than doubled my Hitfactor going to Open over what I was shooting in Limited
  2. No, and based on some hearsay only, Form over Function, if you catch my drift.

LOL Since my optic is mounted there, the best place to rack the slide is in the front. The problem is that after three mags (75rds) it gets HOT so i need to grab it on the rear. With the way my hands naturally sweat, I probably DO need more grip tape. I'd grip tape the whole gun if I knew it wouldn't affect function! The grip tape on the GRIP is located in key positions where my strong hand touches the frame. I didn't think there'd be a need for it on the slide until I went to rack it and my hand slipped and I short-stroked it. SO I said "let's try some skateboard tape there" and I did and MAN what a difference. Then I was out shooting it at the range and needed to lock the slide open for disassembly and the front tape was WAY too hot to handle..... SOOO I struggled at the rear where there was no tape and finally got it open. Added tape there that night and it's probably 50% easier to operate than it was. FUNCTION over FORM. Oh and the holster turned out really nice. It's flexible enough and the "SERPA" button is so light you just have to touch it to deactivate it but I've tested RUNNING and jumping with the gun holstered and it stays secure. It takes a little practice to make sure your finger hits the button but since it's aligned where the frame is, it's a good place to have your finger anyway. It MAY add .05-.1 seconds to my draw since i can't pull out before I fully grip the pistol, but that's not a bad thing to have a more consistent draw grip.
  4. If you're shooting an open .40 and want to go Minor, should you use the 155's and 165s instead of the 180s and load to minor?
  5. Guys, let's see those Open XDm pistols!
  6. For my XDm40 open? I'm using a Serpa Holster with the top cut off. $45

Comp is actually Aluminum i think. feels too light to be steel. I plan on waiting until i can swap in and out new slide springs but was curious if slide lightening was crucial. Thanks!
  8. The worst is when you make a plan for reloads and because of a mental error (shooting an extra round where you didn't need it) you end up a round down on your first reload, then you run out by the end because you thought you would have 2 extra rounds at the end but reloaded 2 rounds early and took an extra shot. The best part about Limited/Open is having a big option of where and when to reload. Having 25 in each stick and having a course of fire of 32 means you can load after an array of 8 and still have more than enough to finish. Even better if it's an array of 8 then 4 or 8 then 8 before the reload, this really gives you a buffer. Lim-10 really makes reloading positions and not taking extra shots unless you REALLY need to, all that more important to your overall score.
  9. Sorry for the silly question, but what is Man vs. Man? Kind of a double-elimination non-timed, more who wins the race thing? Heads up one on one. First one to knock them all down wins type thing? Sorry, I've never done or seen this so I'm curious.
  10. Hrm. Wonder if you could sleep with something like this on? Also, this is the same way to train yourself to read faster. have things scroll by faster than you can read them and do it over and over and then cut back to normal speed and it will seem like you have all the time in the world.
  11. That looks interesting indeed. I kinda like steel.

    TEXAS STAR

My first pistol Texas Star resulted in 3 clean, and 2 that took the remaining 20 rounds to shoot and i still left one up.... /sigh Production minor at the time.
  13. I thought this was just me. I seem to lose 80 IQ points though.
  14. It also helps that they come without evil pistol grips!
  15. Like Alex says, You can be almost as fast as a Magwell, with rock-n-lock and practice. Carolina Shooters does sell a rock-n-lock guide, which I've heard from multiple sources, is awesome at speeding up the rock'n'lock style. I have a Gen1 AGP and Gen2 Surefire magwell from Jack, and while the surefire version is better, i prefer the AGP mags, so I switched back. I'm actually going to sell my Gen2 Surefire magwell and 3 moded and functional Clear Surefire 12rd mags. You can see it here in the white: I couldn't wait for him to anodize them so I got one white Anyway, I recommend a MINIMUM of 3 mags and something like 4-5 is optimal. I've yet to shoot a stage with more than 30rds. And the drums, MDarms 20rd drum is the best out there AND they're running $100 now. You cannot use a magwell but you can use the mag-guide with the drums.

    40 Open

Just built my first Open gun. Yes. Why 40? 9mm factory loads don't make major. 45ACP lacks the capacity. 25+1 40 is plenty. XDm. Me. 5" threaded for comp. Burris FF2 & Springer Precision 3port XDm Comp. Yes, 25+1 LOL whatever I find at walmart? U FL

The federal 180's shoot better than the Blazer 180s. I didn't have any Winchester 165's to test, I'm hoping they shoot better because of the increased gas at the muzzle. One thing to note that I didn't account for. The #18 spring in the gun. The spring is too heavy and 1911 springs don't fit so I ordered a 14/16/18 lb XDm spring set and a 7-16lb 1911 Commander spring set from Wolff as well as a 1911 guide-rod&bushing XDm Conversion from Springer Precision. Hoping to have both by Weds. I'll tweak it to use the lightest spring that will strip the top round from a full mag with the slide pointed upwards. Have to also account for the striker spring trying to open the slide. This is my first OPEN pistol so it never occurred to me that the comp would sap the cycling process of recoil energy. I was getting a few failures to extract completely. You can see in the video the stock gun throwing shells into the wall. My comped gun was trickling shells out. Question: A lighter slide, will that allow the use of even lighter recoil springs? I don't like the "coffin" cut you see on glocks but I'm thinking that maybe a lighter slide would be beneficial to this gun. Thoughts?

Plastic, yes. The comp makes a world of difference though. I have a vid of a stock XDm40 vs my Open XDm40. Sorry about the cell-phone quality AND the stupid background... ><

Look. I'm a whore, and you guys not making posts about my super awesome XDm 40 Open gun, is making me feel bad. Post more comments to feed my attention-whore ways. Thank you! Ok back to whiskey and cigars.
  20. How can a rifle safety just spin freely? I mean AK safeties are hard to accidentally disengage.... actually They're hard to purposely disengage....
  21. I find if I practice my draw, i find the dot more and more readily. A huge screen is nice to find the dot but it doesn't really matter if you practice drawing to the dot over and over and over, eventually you'll just naturally do it.

i said almost all FACTORY Loaded 40 is Subsonic. Given that a great majority of 40 is loaded 165s @ 1000-1100 and 180s 900-1000.
