if this requires a new topic, pls lmk. ok, how about this hypothetical... i have a xd .45 acp. i purchase a custom barrel for said gun, but chambered in .45 gap. assuming the gap will work with a acp breachface, extractor and ejector, do you guys think this will work? i understand that the mags will have a little room front to back, but perhaps if i load the rounds a bit long??

ugly yes, but i think i likey. it has a much nicer trigger than the 340, and is a couple hundred less. they already have a crimson trace grip offered for it. what is there not to like?

i looked over the production rules before starting down this road, and i didnt see where it said it would be illegal. it clearly states no mag extensions for ipsc production, but for uspsa it only had an overall mag length limit. help me out here...

hadn't even thought about the revo guys... right now i'm looking into the xd-45 gap with arredondo's to make it a 10 rd magazine. those guns are cheap enough to make it possible imo...

my experience with shock-buffs are limited to single stack .45 1911s, and they always seems to cause more problems than not, so i gave up on them. i know a lot of folks who run them without any issues on high-cap guns.

ruger lcr looked great- trigger pull was much nicer than the 340pd. knife wise, the new zt 0350 (kershaw) took the cake for me

used both, k-dot and accupoint, prefer the spr. the "e" works great with the 1-4x, but there is enough room on the upper and between the rings on the spr to make any adjustments necessary for proper relief. the plus side is that if you ever decide to go to a shorter eye relief scope like a 3.5-10x, the spr will do better for you than the spr-e.

i may soon have access to a whole sh*tload of .45 gap brass. i didn't consider it seriously in the past b/c of the ammo costs and the lack of brass availability, but now i'm forced to re-examine the situation. anyone out there happy with how it is shooting for them in production? besides the 37 and xd, are there any other viable options? thx-

more precision, front sight focus. more speed, intermediate or target focus. more brass, no focus.

isn't "flawlessly-functioning competition gun" an oxymoron? i've seen more competition rifles sh*t the bed than stock guns. just throw everything together and see if it runs. as long as everything fits and there are no major defects in the various parts, it'll all come down to gas function and positive extraction, and you can adjust those variables from home unless you need to resize a gas port or polish/ream a chamber. ar's are dirty animals, so i'd recommend getting the right cleaning tools like the sinclair barrel extension cleaner. when i clean my rifles, tools like that help me get them spotless. however, i typically clean them once every 2k+ rounds ... i am about as bad as it gets with rifle hygiene. as long as you keep adding good lube, they'll keep going bang until the sludge becomes too much to overcome. good luck with the build- you'll have fun!

with good mags and good lube in the right places, either should work fine. my initial concern like a previous poster was the chrome-lined issue, but you seem to have resolved that. between 14.5" and 16" my main concern would be delivery time at this point- you'd think that non-nfa weapons would be easier to get, but that may be a huge backlog right now, and they may have sbr's registered with a shorter wait, so if that's the case, i'd get whichever is available first. there is a slight difference in velocity and terminal ballistics. make sure you have good ammo that reliably functions and gives you good results in gelatin out of your barrel (contact the ammo manufacturer for test data). also, no one has mentioned stag. they are owned by cmt, which makes rra and receivers for colt and the early s&w's (the ones that worked). out of the box, they are among the best 16" carbine on the market, and with your fet exemption, you should be able to get a really decent price. hope that helps.

not to be funny, but have good quality lube on hand. most of the accessories are secondary to an improved trigger, and everything is secondary to reliable function. run the gun dry or with spot lube and it will stop on you. run it wet and it will go bang every time. i've had good luck with fp-10 and slip2000, but any quality "medium weight" synthetic lube will do. as for triggers, my personal preference is mccormick, as i've had ignition problems with jp in the past (light strikes), but if you have good luck with the jp, keep rockin with it. finally, get a good 40 rd mag. most of the 3 gun or rifle matches i've seen have more than 1 stage where a 40 rd mag will cut out at least 1 reload. have fun!

mccormick single stage. ran a jp for a few seasons but had too many light primer strikes. never had a single ignition problem with the mccormick. tried many other types, including jard which was more reliable than the jp as well. only problem with the mccormicks is they are hard to find right now.

base model kimber. better yet, a solid used kimber custom. having been inside their factory many times, i can attest to the fact that many a base model gun shot circles around their gold match and higher price tag guns.
