  1. i'm pretty certain that yellow tavern is the name on the ffl that is used to do transfers for "tti"- i had an item duracoated at tti years ago and that was the ffl used.
  2. fwiw, an instructor at the remington armorer's school mentioned that he was having issues with low brass light loads and by doubling up on the o-rings it ran without problems. haven't tried it myself, but that's what the man said.
  3. stiguy, take it easy bro- you dont have to react as if i'm making fun of your mom or something. im just sharing what i know from my experience, which is my upper happened to work, but back in the day folks were reporting problems with those configurations. it seems that much of that came from simply cutting 20" barrels down and having a go. even today gas port sizes for same-length barrels vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, and they knew much less about this stuff back when the first 16"/rifle-length-gas-systems came out than they do now. as a comparison, i also mentioned that i've had ar's in more traditional configurations not work from the factory, be it 16", 14.5", 11.5" or 10.5", so i'm not singling out this configuration as condemned. i'll say it again, but it seems like dpms's are running fine from the looks of it. i'm glad your system works great with certain ammo. i know that bruce's duty rifle works well. i hope revopop's project works out and want to hear about his success. lets all relax and help each other have guns that work.
  4. canuck223, well put. with regards to opening the gas port, it is indeed the last option, but i was speaking mainly to the issues unique to shorter than normal bbl length in front of the gas block, in this case 16" bbl/12" gas system. while extractor upgrades, heavier buffers and carriers will help increase the necessary duration to allow for proper extraction with a good gas sample (fixing double feeds), with the 16"/rifle-length gas systems, the gas sample may not be sufficient and cause a short-stroke malfunction. all those problems were the basis for the famed bm dissipator model back in the day. based on comments here, it looks like the dpms factory configuration seems to be working just fine. revopop- let us know how it works out if you go for it!
  5. i've had a 20" cut down to 16" and run great. i've also had factory 16" and shorter guns run horribly. there can be other variables besides the barrel- but most of the time when you are getting short in front of the gas port, if you have problems, opening the gas port a bit can help. is there any way you can run the upper through its paces before buying it?
  6. good luck... all my favorite back-lit alarmed-featured favorites come from verizon. maybe your watch crapping out was a sign that you don't need a watch any more? lol
  7. dude, best of luck in your quest for this rifle. make sure you post accuracy and reliability results if/when you get this thing. i'm always a bit skeptical about prototype reports- i'll believe it when they repeat the track record with successive production runs. even after all that, the benefits of major in tactical may not outweigh the negatives- like weight, reload speed and accessory options. but if your only exposure to ar's has been the uspsa scene, i understand your distaste for them and wish you luck in finding the solution... i've seen more ar's choke and die in ipsc matches than anywhere else b/c of all the tinkering and whiz-bang parts put into them. i've been running mixed-part un-lightened, un-tricked, un-adjustable-gas-ported ar's for ever and they all run like magic b/c of one hi-tech whiz-bang accessory... lube. so if the 762x39 project falls flat, come back to the dark side and give the minor-ar another chance
  8. piggy backing this thread- if you reply, please put a link to where you ordered yours as well- very interested in these...
  9. the 154 grain sp is advertised as 2220 fps that would be a 341 pf so you would have to crono it to be sure it will make power factor in your gun Thanks that sounds very promising. I cannot wait for the rifle to be available now. It should take a month or two. I tried the prototype and it was cool. ok, i'll bite... "what rifle??"
  10. here's some info- if you pick one up, replace the buffer with one of these. the wood stock will almost inevitably end up cracking at the back of the receiver if you dont. the factory buffer was made of playdough and will get brittle and start falling out in chips and chunks. does anyone know of a reputable gunsmith that does work on these things, including their trigger groups?
  11. how do i force myself to dry fire? consistency is the key. i consistently lose to my competition at matches, and that keeps me motivated to dry fire.
  12. +1 dillon- had a 550b, upgraded to 650 and 1050... wish i had gone with the 1050 in the beginning.
  13. I am not 100% certain but I believe that the Warren FO sight is not the right height if used with the OEM rear. you are likely right about that, sorry... the warren fo may be a tad taller, and it only sells in a set. i overlooked the part about the factory rear.. srt205, keep in mind that the red dot may or may not line up with the white dots in the rear sight properly, so you may want to take some acetone to it or black it out- just a thought.
  14. for a good lesson on gripping and pulling, see
  15. while f/o fronts help a lot of folks, dont discount the plain sevigny front sight- it doesn't seem to slow dave up much that he doesnt have an f/o front.
  16. warren tactical also makes fo front sights for the m&p
  17. there's a production gm down your way (florida) that shoots for s&w who was running it and i thought he said it was approved as legal when he showed amidon. and what is wrong with mall ninjas? i wouldn't feel safe at a mall without them...
  18. ok, i'll bite. i watched the 1st video, and for your first action pistol match you looked remarkably good- a lot better than my first match, that's for sure. here are a few things- first stage- pick a spot on the ground to setup for your first shot- you looked unsure of a position- during your walk-through find where you want to end up and get there right off the bat. reloads- your reloads are remarkably efficient, but you are doing them unnecessarily low, which brings your head down low and requires you to have to present everything anew again, instead of just pushing out straight from a high reload. also, on one of your strong-hand stages, you push or jettison your mag out- wasted motion- pick and use mags that fall out freely and just dump them with the mag release- dont waste motion. your dq stage- you engaged one target on the left and then another on the right- drive the gun hard with the gun up, instead of breaking it back into your gut and having to push out again- this is a good technique for predictable and short target to target transitions. final advice, take a class with a production shooter, and keep video taping your stuff to review but pick better music.
  19. +1 ready tactical pouches- as far as performance, they have been the bomb. ng. the downside of the rt pouches is that the loop can and will probably eventually break after several years of continued use, or after they snag on something when you are exiting a car at the start of the stage, so it is good to have an extra 1 in your kit as a backup. i have tried kytac and while the holsters are nice, the pouches leave a lot to be desired, especially when the retention screw starts to fail you. you can get the ready tac pouches from skd if the board vendor is out of stock on anything.
  20. funny, i was going to recommend you try the safariland coupler... i can't understand how your scope mount is getting in the way of the top round cover though- can you elaborate? if you want to use a coupler, i've found this to be the best coupler out there. if you can reach the bolt release on the redi-mag intuitively, that should work well, but i find it interferes with running your hand out onto the forearm as quickly after hitting the release. i love belt mag pouches for the ar, particularly ready tactical's pouches, but any kydex pouch would work. the drop-leg rig you mentioned seems like it would work well, but i'd just run it as high as possible so as not to interfere as much with your running and improve your reload efficiency.
  21. comes mostly from m882 military contract ammo- 124 gr fmj, nato spec- dirty stuff, but runs most any 9mm, especially blow-back subguns that would normally choke on many saami spec loads.
  22. +1 shawn knight advantage arms conversion kit for your glock 17- the benefits of using the same gun to practice for your... uh.. same gun are pretty obvious. http://www.advantagearms.com/ sub-caliber training is fun, inexpensive and very effective at letting you focus on the fundamentals of the first shot without the recoil.
  23. just made the transition to shooting sig in production- had the slide-release-thumb problem until i just moved the thumb onto the support hand and off the slide. i like the bw model, but would advise against the models with the beavertail- they actually put your hand lower in the gun and increase the height of the bore in your hand... go figure
  24. that looks pretty cool- don't think i'd ever want more than 4x at a 3 gun match, but having 1 optic that does 1-10x means i can now take my 3 gun blaster out to shoot prairie dogs... curious about the f.o.v. as well.
  25. keeping the inside wet with lube. i have an mur with no f/a just as much to prove a point as it was to save money or weight- you keep the ar lubed and it will run until the cows come home.
