  1. Born in Michigan. Lived in the south for going on 35 years. But I am still considered a Yankee. Just figured I would embrace it.
  2. Been quite some time since I had to carry junk like this around much. Things have changed. I decided to combined a little old and new. I went with the Alice pouches for protection. Two for rifle and one for pistol. Took it out for a 4mile spin. Rode great with no bounce and no interference with my legs.

    Cz for 3 gun

I use a plain ole CZ85. The Mec Gar SP01 19 round mags fit fine. Not the best trigger but it goes bang every time.
  4. I have been thinking about pictures like that as I make my equipment choices. I have also been thinking of the magazine I saw laying in the low crawl pit in one of the vids.
  5. You really need to run YOUR data through a ballistics computer and play with the numbers. It is also important to know your actual height over bore as that is a very important part of the equation. Play with different zero distances and see what you come up with. You can also use the computer results to zero your rifle at distances other than standard. Just like in the army, if you only have a 25 yd range you can still achieve a 50yd zero by knowing how high your point f aim should be above your point of impact.
  6. It is likely you are squeezing your whole hand and not just your trigger finger. Do some dry fire and squeeze the grip with all four fingers. You will notice the barrel dip down and to the left. As was already said. Practice. Yankee Dog
  7. where did you get these numbers from? I typically only see about a 120-150fps velocity loss from a 20" to a 16". The internet where else. I didnt have chrono figures of my own, but I knew there was a significant difference in velocity. It has been awhile but I have seen a 16 with factory rounds fail to make minor. So I googled around until I found someone who had actually run the different barrel lengths though a chrono. the results are 55 grainers of otherwise unknown configuration. To me the significant figure is the additional drop. The larger the drop the harder it is to adjust for those long shots.
  8. dont have the data for an 18". you will have to interpolate. dropping from a 20" to a 16" barrel and you will lose about 250-300 fps velocity and gain an extra foot of drop at 400 yards.
  9. I guess I dont see a problem with letting people compete on a local level with 22s for as long as they so desire. What does it hurt? It taks a cool grand+ to get started what with gun, holster, pouches etc. Not even considering the cost of ammo. Some folks will never want or be able to afford that kind of expenditure. The more people we have shooting bullets of whatever size the better. Again, what does it hurt?
  10. what about a three sided pole barn. They are relatively inexpensive and easy to construct. should deaden the sound enough without insulation to make the neighbors happy. If not, you could add insulation as needed. would have the added advantage of giving you a covered place to shoot from. Of course, it would have the added DISadvantage of being louder than heck. You may want to insulate it to proect yourself from the noise.
  11. I also like my 2 stage trigger (Compass Lake). The nice thing about a 2 stage is that you have a 4.5 pound trigger for the run and gun. And you also have a crisp 1 pounder for the longer shots. Its not like you notice the transition during fast shots but it sure is nice on the long one.
  12. A few points. I dont believe any solution that requires some sort of high tech or specialized target is workable. There are plenty of small clubs and matches which do not have the resources available for anything other than normal steel and normal paper. And whatever solution is used needs to work well at all levels of competitions. I agree that you need data to come to an intelligent desion on a scoring system equitable to both major and minor. In order to gather is data dont think classification, think standards. What you need is a standard stage that as many folks as possible agree to incorporate into their matches. You will also need a organization that will agree to collect the data. Then just make the raw data available and let the discussions begin. That said, I also wonder about the need to keep minor calibers on a par with major. We dont worry about it in handgun, why worry about it in rifle. Of course any rifle, to include 5.56 is a one hit stopper so maybe it is a mute point. As a point of information penetration has more to do with bullet design than with caliber. For example, the 5.56 round with steel core will drive through way more cover than the 7.62 standard ball ammuntion (source Infantry Magazine 19??)
  13. Here ya go. Lauer Custom Weaponry Try a Google for this guy Yankee Dog
  14. I have a 650 but if I had it to do over again I would go the 2 SDB route. I would skip the strong mount, buy another powder measure, mount them BOTH to the loading bench and be able to load either caliber any time I want. No primer swapping, no messing with different powder or charge. Just double check your charge drop and go. I dont care what anyone sez. Changing calibers is a PIA. It is a royal PIA if you have to change primer sizes. With two machines, one set for small and the other for large primers, even if I did need to change calibers at least I wouldnt have to do the the primers. Yankee Dog
  15. there are a LOT of options when it comes to shotshell carriers. Personally I would go with a cheap bandolier and wear it around your waist until you take a look at what others are using and what might suit you best. Slow yes, but no sense in dropping cash for somthing you might not use in the long run. Yankee Dog
  16. lets see.....what about flames dragon scales armor plate with rivets tie dye just some simple pin stripes I have always wanted to do something similiar with my AR. ya got me to thinkin. yankee dog
  17. You might want to pick up a couple more magazines. High round count stages are common and its always nice to have an extra mag or two in case something goes wrong. Yankee Dog
  18. If you get an 1100 you will NEED an Easy Loader. Of course you are only talking another $40 or so but you wont want to be without it. As for the reliability of the 1100. I have one with a Choate stock and tube, EZ loader and side saddle. The limitation is all because of the nut behind the trigger. The gun itself has never let me down. Yankee dog
  19. take this into consideration before you start messing with it. The reloading process with handle small dents in the brass. Will your gun still run 100% if you start messing with it??? yankee Dog
  20. I have installed a couple of Easy Loaders, one in a 20 ga. Really no problem at all. Other than an EZ Loader all you need is an mag extention. The rest is all gravy. Yankee Dog
  21. Even a 1-9 is a compromise for 55s. If you really plan to shoot 55s then go with a 1-10 or 1-12. I forget which is actually the best for that weight bullet (google is your friend). At closer ranges any barrel will shoot any bullet. The further out you go the more difference you will see. Yankee dog
  22. I like the stuff I find at the range for free. The great think about 45 is it is not finicky. As long as it is not split I clean it and use it. Never had a problem. Yankee Dog
  23. How about an M1 carbine. A great piece of history and a hoot to shoot. Sized perfectly for the smaller folk as well. Yankee Dog
  24. Dollars to donuts camo dude is the match director. He is confident and in charge. You can see it in his demeanor. As for mixing sports. come on folks. The idea is to have fun and get people shooting. Please dont be so stuffy. This particular incident could have happen within either version of our sport. Yankee dog
