  1. Once you get it set-up and start using it. You will soon forget about the initial cost and find it's well worth the money.
  2. I had issues at first with my Tripp 9mm 10 rounders in my STI Spartan. I think the springs were just too tight at first, rounds were nosediving withing the mag. Now the have broken in and run 99% I load a Bear Creek 135g RN at 1.150 OAL backed with WST.
  3. No pics, but I can attest that the RT1200 cuts clean. I size and trim 500 cases at a time in about 30 minutes, Tumble in 50/50 corncob and walnut for another 30 minutes, then load Horandy 55g FMJBT w/c. No chamfer, no deburr, no issues.
  4. I run a FL Dillon sizer at station one and RT1200 sizer/trim set-up to match with a case gauge at station four. The actual sizing is done at one along with the decap or the spent primer. The RT1200 sizer is set up to perfectly match so it does not rework the brass. So far so good, I'm really happy with they speed, 300 cases the other day in a tad over 10 minutes to case gauged perfection.
  5. I'm loving my new Bear Creek Moly 135g RN load 4.0g loaded to 1.150 OAL out of my Spartan 9mm. 980 Fps, 133 PF. Pretty accurate 3 inch off hand at 25 yards.
  6. The RCBS X-die interests me, but one thing I don't understand is how the set-up is just based on cammimg the press. Can you use a Dillon rifle case to set it up for proper head spacing?
  7. Does a Universal Decapper do case expansion? I don't think my Lee one does
  8. What does your headspace gauge tell you? Enough shoulder set back of not? I run a Dillon sizer decapper in station one and the sizer on the trimmer is just matched. No change in shoulder setback at all. Running it this way does not actually rework the brass as it is already sized so no harm IMO. I know off others that even run a third sizer to just smooth out any wrinkles after trimming with the same set-up.
  9. 1. Same brass. 2. Good bullet. 3. Load needs to be efficient burns complete and clean, PF or 133 or higher IMO. 4. press need to be set-up for consistent powder drops and OAL. My new Bear Creek Moly 135g WST loads 4.0g 1.150 oal averaged 133PF with a SD of 3.2 on the chrono this weekend.
  10. I used TG and Solo for 147g. TG is better in my opinon. I gave up chasing the PF floor and opted for 124g FMJ's with TG at 135 PF. I'm moving onto Moly bullets for my Spartan 9mm using WST and a 115g RN. Like it alot chronoed some loads and settled on a 4.0g at 1.150 OAL makes 133PF with a SD of 3.2. Very accurate too.
  11. I don't understand how this could be the toolheads fault??? Are you sure your toolhead is aligned? I have a 9mm XL650 set-up and it rocks, I just loaded another 400 in 30 minutes uninterruppted this morning. Rodell graciously gave me 2 spare coils, lent me the tools to install and I just bought the screws and washers locally. If you cases are not lining up in the #1 station that's a casefeeder shuttle issue not the toolhead. You set the toolhead up tighten it down once all statins are loaded. After that it's the station 1 locator that is the varible to get the case in the right place. I love my set-up, with FMJ OAL is 0.002 of target with my Redding competion seating die. A little more with the Moly lead I load for a different gun.
  12. Im most cases, spent primers not making it into the cup can be attributed to the press not being solidly mounted. I veryrarely had that issue with either of the two SDB's I owned. When it did happen it was just after emptying the cup and the first few primers would bounce just at the right angle on the bottom of the clean cup.
  13. Lovin my new Dillon RT1200 for .223 on my XL650. I just got if finally set-up yesterday and have trimed 1000 cases already in next to no time. I'll add that I seriously considered the Giraud trimmer, can see it's advantages over others. However the one thing that put me off was having to handle each and every case. Last thing I want to be doing is physically handle the cases to trim.
  14. I too started with a LCT and have to disagree with the previous poster, money is ALWAYS a consideration and for the low $200 price point the LCT is a great investment. Actually my number one recommendation for a newbie where price does matter. I'm copying and pasting a write up quoted from a fellow reloading forum friend over at Glocktalk who also started with a LCT. "Lee Classic Turret. (LCT) www.leeprecision.com This is the press I started with and its a great first press. Its considered an auto indexing turret press. You have to pull the handle 4 times to get one completed round. Lee is the only maker who does this type of press. Its a lot faster then a normal turret and cheaper on top of it all. You can expect to load about 200rds an hour once you get in the groove. You can get a nice LCT kit from http://www.kempfgunshop.com/. Be aware that others sell a kit but the kit includes the dreaded Lee Scale. Avoid them. Kempfs kit includes: Lee Classic Turret Press Lee Deluxe 4-Die Set for the pistol caliber of your choice. (3 Die set in 380) Lee Auto Disk Powder Measure Lee Safety Prime System (Large or Small) Lee Auto Disk Riser (Required for the Safety Prime System) Six MTM 50 round Plastic Ammo Boxes I recommend you upgrade the kit to the Pro Auto Disc Powder Measure. Not only does it give you the better powder measure but you also get the Large and Small primer setup. Its worth it for the powder measure alone. With this kit you do not need a primer turning tray. The Auto Disc powder measure does not have the ability to adjust powder to very small increments like most measures. You simply change discs with different size holes to get the charge you want. This gets you pretty close and it works fine. You can add an adjustable charge bar but it does not work well with small charges and some powders. I stopped using mine with TiteGroup and 9mm. Loading larger throws of powder in a .44mag may have been fine. I dont know, never tried. People say it works better with larger volume charges. Lee even warns you about this on their instructions. The priming system is workable. Some people have had to add a washer under the primer mounting location to get it 100% dialed in. Most people dont have any trouble doing this slight mod. The LCT is a great, low cost, relatively quick entry into reloading. Once you get it dialed in its amazing how much ammo it can make. Caliber changes are so easy its unbelievable. You can also easily disable the auto-indexing and convert it to a single stage press. Its brilliant in its simplicity and function. Recommended Setup: Kempfs LCT kit with the Pro Powder measure, Lee 4 Die set, scale, dial calipers and Tumbler." In addition here is a very useful thread giving very detailed instructions and pictures on setting up and using the LCT. http://www.surplusrifle.com/reviews2...ress/index.asp In regards with the toolhead being sloppy and ammo produced being inconsistent, I also have to disagree. My OAL's were just as consistent with the LCT as they were with both the SDB's I owned or the XL650 I have now. The one upgrade I would recommend though in regards to the above package offered by Kempf's to assist in the above observation is to get a set of Dillon lock rings for the Lee dies, you could get them at the same time you ordered a Dillon beam scale which would be my choice as well to start.
  15. I run 4.1 at 1.140 with a 124 PD out of my G34 it runs right at 1100 (official chrono at WA State IDPA last year) I use 135 as my personal minimum power floor. I find it is always a little more accurate at extended ranges and still has the hit power for those occasional 35 yard poppers in USPSA. I run the same load in my own 9mm Spartan too.
  16. I just started setting up my 650 to load .223. I'm sure glad I got one of those case gauges. Makes setting up the multipll sizers on the RT1200 toolhead a breeze.
  17. I'm gonna use FMJBT's. I talked to another forum member and he said he actually sizes twice before and after the sizer/trimer and made the point that you reall are only working the brass once. . Just making sure that the sizing dies are set the same with a gauge, the second size just irons out any wrinkles that may arise.
  18. I'm going to give the Dillon FL size/decap die followed by the Rapid Trim 1200 B Size/Trim Die a go... I just haven't used it so wanted to know from those that have, if size/trim die needed to be setup for sizing oe whether I could justset it up to trim alone at that #3 station. I hear you on the brass prep, it is time comsuming since my effort to make it as fast and efficient as possible. My goal is to have about 3K in cases processing 100 pc lots at a time. I'm going to be needing about 1K a month normally, 2K if I have a class. I don't have a Dillon swager yet... I bought bullets in a bullet/partly processes case deal from TJ Convera so they are already clean/swaged. I just need to size/trim/load.
  19. I'm setting up my XL650 to load .223/5.56 for my M4. These loads will all be 55g FMJBT for tactical rifle classes and matches. I want the fastest most efficient means of trimming and sizing cases. I'm going to go with at the toolhead mounted Dillon Rapid Trim 1200B Case Trimmer .223 Rapid Trim 1200 B Size/Trim Die. The set-up/process I see most guys do is: clean cases, lube and run then through a universal decapper in station one then a Rapid Trim 1200 B Size/Trim Die at station three. After which swaging in a Dillon swagger and clean the lube off in corncob prior to the loading on a normal die setup toolhead (again with a universal decapper at station one to clear any stuck media in the flash hole. Is there any reason why I shouldn't utilize the FL Dillon sizing/decapping die on the sizing/trimming toolhead, rather than a universal decapper alone? My thought was that both decapping and presizing FL at station one would make the it less work for the Rapid Trim 1200 B Size/Trim Die at station three. I'm not familiar with the sizing capabilities of the Rapid Trim 1200 B Size/Trim Die. Is it a FL sizing dies or just neck? Thanks for your thoughts.
  20. Yeah he made me a couple a year or so ago. Adam is a member here also, but I need to point out that our rules don't allow buying and selling on the forum. (Sorry, I had to remove a few posts along those lines.) - Admin. sorry my bad i just thought it was cool wont happen again Bad Bello.....Bad, bad I got my SDB a 8-ball from Adam, tried it on the 650, still prefer the roller.
  21. What caliber are you loading? Are you lubing you brass with HOS? Is your SDB strongmounted and if not your bench edge rock solid? Do you maintance a regimental clean, lube and tune of your SDB? To break two handles and crack a frame you must be reefing down hard on the press. Either that or one or more of the questions I asked may come into play.
  22. I use 2 of that same light. One for my SDB the other for my XL650, both my presses are on strongmounts so utilizing the magnetic base is easy.
  23. I went from a 9mm dedicated SDB to a Casefed XL650 also dedicated to 9mm (for the most part) What did I gain? My monthly round count is 2000 a month, with the SDB it took me on average 1 hour, to load 400 rounds. The XL650 I load 100 rounds every 7 minutes.... so in essence I cut my time at the bench in half actually loading on the machine itself. About the only reason to upgrade would be for that particular reason. I still run another SDB for my .45 ACP.
  24. You spreading rumors about me Rob? I may one day get a LNL, it outwardly has it merits... after doing some reading on other sites though. It seems like it really doesn't have the plug and play, work out the gate qualities like a XL650 does. I'll be curious to see how C4W goes with his in the coming months. In the meantime, I'm not gonna bother with even the bullet feeder right now. Who knows when the die issues will get resolved and they will have stock.
  25. I actually used the 550 one for my SDB. I had intentions of modifying it by welding in a extention piece. However found having the bin to the rear was actually faster and closer to the resize station. http://glocktalk.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=206835&d=1288495080
