  1. This, so much. Its silly how difficult they try to make things. To me, if it comes stock, off the shelf, it should be allowed to run in a "stock" division. Just have a weight and size limit and then if a manufacturer builds it, its good to go. No reason to make it so difficult. ESP can then be the single action division and any other gun that people want to lightly modify.
  2. I think it can be enjoyable, but not when compared to USPSA. My competition shooting has slowed down over the last couple years, but I used to shoot both pretty regularly on the local level. It was something to do that was more fun than standing still at the local range and would keep me sharp with my gun handling skills. But whenever I'd have a choice of the two, USPSA would always win out. IDPA can also depend on the club you shoot at. I used to shoot a couple different ones and one of the clubs was thousands of times better than the other club when coming up with interesting COFs and making the shooting more enjoyable. One club would simply regurgitate the same old COFs every few weeks which got incredibly boring. For anyone looking to shoot, I think you should try both and I think that both can be fun if its done right.
  3. I'm not sure where you heard that, but it's not true. Feel free to PM me for more. R, If the info is not true, why correct it in PM, why not make sure that everyone knows the correct information? I'm sure the OP and others would like to know the truth.
  4. I believe the Dawson's are also designed to not lock back the slide. At least they didnt in my STI mags and SVI gun. The Grams will lock it back.
  5. Thanks for your input. I'll start with these suggested weights and see what I come up with.
  6. I'm sure this has been discussed a ton, but I tried the search and couldnt find anything, so I'll ask again. In you're S_I .40 cal limited guns, what are the recoil and mainspring weights you're using? Both full dustcover/unique slide and normal slide/short dustcover variations. I have two SVI, one of each style, both .40s both bought used. They feel VERY different in both the recoil and hammer weights and I have no idea what springs are in either one. I'd like to see what others are using so I can have an idea of what is in each one for when it comes to replacement and also to see if I can tune the short dustcover version to feel more like the other, which I love the way it handles. Thanks.
  7. I dont shoot a ton of matches due to my work schedule, however, the last one I did was at a club that allowed PCCs to run beside the pistols. It worked great and looked like a lot of fun. They did not run multiple guns, they were mixed in with the rest of the squads and they did not take any longer than anyone else. They were just another shooter in another class that day and it worked out great. I dont see why there would be no reason for this to be able to be a regular class if the USPSA wanted to add it. There certainly should be no reason that a club shouldnt do it if they want.
  8. I dont know, I have to disagree with a few here and say that just cause you have all the gear or spend thousands on it, you're automatically "into it." I have a nice SV limited gun. I'd like to have a nice open gun at some point. However, with my day job, which has me traveling a lot on weekends during the spring to fall, I only make a match about once every couple months. I might do 5 or 6 a year, but have a multi-thousand dollar SV on my hip cause I like to shoot it. I dont sit around in the evenings dry firing, I dont load my own rounds, I dont get a chance to practice that often and I dont sit around dreaming about shooting all the time. I do however, enjoy shooting, I do hit the range when I can, I do hit the matches when I can and simply go out and have a good time. If I had a $5k open class gun, I'd be doing the same thing, yet and hardly "into it." Nothing wrong with just enjoying it and using the cool and nice gear if you want, without being "into it" or too heavily competitive. I couldnt care less where I finish in a weekend, I just do my best and have a good time. So yes, you can enjoy the sport, have the cool gear and not be "into it." Just my humble opinion though.
  9. John, what are the details on those builds. I see one is a Caspian frame, what barrels are you using in them? Also, were they "home assembled" or did a smith build and fit all the parts for you?
  10. HSmith will likely get even more busy considering he had a whole article devoted to him in the Front Sight magazine that showed up on my doorstep today.
  11. Its not on their site, but Glockworx does a wonderful cut into the slide to allow the FastFire or Doctor to fit without a mount at all. If you have a large frame Glock I\'d seriously call them about doing that. As a matter of fact, I got an email not too long ago and they were running a special on it till the end of the year I think, so if you call them soon you might be able to get a deal on having it done. Really clean and puts the dot about right where a normal sight picture would be. Edit, here is a photo of it on a custom upper. http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?...st&id=20966
  12. Seriously, check out the 5.11 series of holsters from Blade Tech. Here are some poor shots of mine with my G17 w/comp in it. It has a completely open bottom end and a 34 or anything longer will fit right through with zero modifications to it as long as the comp isnt wider than the slide. And its only $29 so if its not perfect for you, its cheap to modify or just get rid of. My shots show it with a paddle on it, it comes with paddle and belt options. http://www.511tactical.com/browse/Home/Law...7/I/59136-59173
  13. Like Lawman says, or you can look at the 5.11 Tactical holsters made by Blade Tech. I have one of those and my FastFire, compensated G17 fits in it perfectly since it has an open bottom and the comp just sticks out. Its made for the G17 or 34 so the comp just sticks through. Works great. The red dot sits far enough back that it doesnt interfere with the holster at all. They are only $30 too. Best deal in Kydex going right now.
  14. Anyone ever tried the Burris SpeedBead sight? It uses the FastFire with a mount that goes between the stock and receiver. Looks like it would work pretty well. Not sure if you can get the mount by itself, but if you could, you could then use a Doctor as well since they use the same mounting base. Might be slightly close to the eye, but seems like it would work well without getting into machining the receiver at all. http://www.burrisoptics.com/speedbead.html
  15. I agree with you Watchman. Heavy barrels is specifically related to cone style or bull barrels such as those used in 1911/2011 platforms. Its not related to the swap of a Glock barrel at all. ESP does not say anything about swapping out barrels for caliber changes. They allow other enhancements to the gun as well, making it not stock. So I would think you could swap to a 9mm barrel in a G35 if you're running ESP. However, in SSP, the goal is to remain stock. Its says that caliber conversions are not allowed if the original gun is not available in multiple calibers. As from my previous post, a gun such as the Sig P226, which is available in three calibers from the factory, you would be able to make a change. A gun like the G35, which is only available in ONE caliber, you could not. It would be easy if Glock wanted to get around this. They could simply change their naming scheme to something like Sigs and just have a G34 and make it available in multiple calibers getting rid of the G35 naming. Likewise, if they didnt have a G22 and G17 for the different calibers and just used one name and offered multiple calibers, it would be legal by the rules. But they dont, therefore they are different guns and therefore not legal to make caliber changes under the current SSP rules.
  16. I was just giving you a little jab in good fun there Larry (hence the wink) and apologize as well if it was taken wrong. I have shot with several guys using these with stock components and they really do like them. Unfortunately, I want to use one to make a race gun out of it using aftermarket components and I guess that just isnt going to happen. I like the Glock platform, but cant stand the grip angle, I just do not shoot it well when I go back and forth between other guns it screws me all up. I am desperately looking for a frame that will give me a 1911 feel with the Glock upper. Have you found ANY afermarket slides or barrels that will function well with your frames? Also, how much does the slide matter? For instance, does a Lone Wolf slide work with a stock Glock barrel, etc?
  17. Kind of ironic dont you think, considering they're called RACE frames.
  18. A G35 with a 9mm barrel is NOT legal in SSP. Since the slide for a 35 is milled for a larger barrel, when you go to a 9mm, you therefore have a heavier barrel than is in a 34, therefore an advantage and not legal. Also, if you read the rules its clear. A G35 is only available in ONE caliber, .40. The G34 is a different gun altogether. Therefore, there are not other barrels that are available from the manufacturer for the G35. As the rules are written a gun like the Sig P226, which is available in 9mm, .40 and .357 sig you could change barrels in because its available in all three calibers from the factory. A G35 is not. However, you can just change the entire upper to a G34 and be good to go since then you simply have a G34.
  19. But I dont wanna. Actually, I'd be interested in hearing if CCF has any recommended barrels other than the Glock ones. I have a KKM in one of mine and I looked at this yesterday, and while I did not have a set of calipers handy, it does look damn close and it does have the angled cut on it like the Glock barrel. There are a lot of folks that dont want to run a Glock barrel, some think others are more accurate, some just want to shoot lead out of their guns and others might want a fully supported chamber (.40 cal users), so there are good reasons to not run a factory barrel. There has to be something out there that will work with these frames other than simply Glock parts.
  20. I have one mounted to the slide of my 9mm glock and I had no problem getting it zeroed. Only took a handful of shots and it has stayed dead on accurate. I have also had no issue getting help from Burris, the person that answers the phone is just that, one that only answers the phone. I've always just said I had a technical question and they transferred me to someone that was always able to answer my questions. It wasnt about the Fastfire, it was about rings, but anyway. Good luck. I did have to exchange a pair of rings for a rifle and they were very helpful in getting them swapped out. They sent out the new rings with a return label in the box so all I had to do was swap them when they got here, put the old rings back in the box and throw the label on it and off it went. Hopefully it will be as easy for you if you have to replace it it.
  21. If you want to get rid of a couple of those 9mm 124 mags let me know.
  22. I should probably update this a bit. I called and talked with Bob at Brazos Custom where I was buying the gun. He's also doing their "tune up" work on it before sending it. Anyway, I was kind of set on the .40 after info here and in another thread and what people said was making a lot of sense. I talked with Bob for awhile though and based on the fact that this is going to be an IDPA gun mainly, I shoot 3-4 times more IDPA than I do USPSA, and some of the other pros and cons of each, he thought that the 9mm was probably the better way to go, which was my original thought as well, so that is what I did. So that is what's coming, a bushing barrel 9mm in the Eagle 5.0 with the Brazos tune up package, a fiber front sight and their ultragrip stippled grip. Should have it next week. He had both the .40 and 9 in stock and there was no pressure or feeling he wanted to steer me to the 9, just after a good long conversation about how I will use the gun and what I'll be using it for, the 9 seemed like better choice to both of us. Anyway, we'll see how it works out. Thanks a ton for all the input. I'll be using my SV .40 when shooting USPSA and the Eagle for IDPA and if the SV truly needs a backup, the better decision is to get another like SV so that holsters and the whole nine yards are the same for the backup gun. Thanks again all.
  23. Sounds like they were saying that if you wanted to load the mags all the way up, you'd need to run in Limited class because production only allows 10 rounds in the mag. Limited and Limited 10 are the same as far as pistol mods go, but you only load 10 in the mag for Limited 10. Both allow for more modifications than in the production class. So, what you should be doing is only loading 10 rounds in your stock mags and then shoot production.
  24. Just realized I put this in the rifle forum. Mods can you please move to shotgun? Thanks guys, I'll start to look there.
  25. So I have a M2 with a 21" barrel on its way and now I'll need to get the proper accessories for it. Just starting out in 3-gun so just need the basics. Looking for a mag extension and then something to hold shells to reload from. So, what do you guys recommend, brands, styles, sizes for a mag extension? Do you recommend a side saddle and/or shell holders for the belt? Again, brands, etc. Also, where is the best place to find said items? Thanks.
