    OPEN GLOCKS

Question for Open Glock shooters; I have a Carver comp on my open glock, it has 10 openings, 4 on top and 3 on each side. I shoot in USPSA matches claiming minor power factor @ 148 P/F. I have tried major power factor, but my accuracy falls away along with the group size. Since I am shooting a non-major load, I do not feel that this comp is being as effective as it could be. I have watched other open glock shooters using SJC comps that do not have all the side ports and I was thinking that this configuration would be more effective because it keeps the gas in the chambers longer engaging the walls of the chambers. What are your opinions concerning one brand of compensator over another. I am thinking about changing my compensator, I want to minimize muzzle flip as much as possible. Another important factor I should mention is that I am running a 10 pound spring, I haven't seen an 8 pound spring anywhere, I am scared to go any lighter due to it might invite failure to feed issues. Your thoughts on this are appreciated.
  2. Sent our applications in for another Southern Regional, the countdown begins!
  3. I have been reading all of this talk about 6 shot or 8 shot revolvers for weeks now. First let me say I have both, a S&W 625 and a S&W R8 and I compete using both, the 625 for USPSA and the R8 for ICORE and Steel Challenge. I think that you hit the nail on the head when you alluded to the fact that course design could remedy this whole situation. I shot a USPSA match yesterday with my 625 instead of my normal Glock just to try the 6 shot revolver game again since I gave it up due to the frustration factor of standing still reloads. I have to honestly say that is was as painful as before. 7 or 8 shots from a shooting position just kills the enjoyment for me. Oh they did have one revolver neutral course, the classifier! I knew on the first course that I wish I had brought a semi-auto. Why do the courses have to have more than six shots? Years ago, no match had more then six shots. I used to compete exclusively with a revolver back then. Is course design only trying to make it competitive for 2011 style guns with large capacities? I think with 6 shot max from any shooting position and just a little more imagination in the course designs and all would work out. Just my 2 cents.....
  4. SOLO 1000, burns clean ( very little residue visible on a stainless gun)
  5. When you change the diode do you have to re-sight the pistol?

    OPEN GLOCKS

The idea that it might work is due to it resembling a 1911 with a Schuemann barrel that has the rib with the holes in it. I have shot one of those before and they seem to work OK.

    OPEN GLOCKS

Since we are talking about G34's, my question is; has anyone had any experience with using a ported barrel in a G34? Since it has the cut out in the slide, I was wondering if it would work as good as a compensator? A 6 port, ported barrel, slide ride dot, competition trigger sounds like a sweet package....
  8. The local range here is owned by the Dept. of Wildlife & Fisheries, so all you can do is stand still and punch paper, no drawing or reloading drills. Last time I went, they had several people shooting. The people I talked to were complaining about getting ammo. I don't do any shooting other than at the local matches that I attend and the occasional sighting in of a rifle or handgun. Dry Firing is really boring!
  9. I would have thought that either the round count would go down or the participation would go down. I have not seen that .. in fact I think it's the opposite. Look how fast the larger matches fill up. Match participation has not wavered one bit, I think people are going to shoot till they have no more components and then quit. "Laissez les bon temps rouler" as the Cajuns say in Louisiana! "Let the good times roll!"
  10. Agreed, I have been using my 140mm mags because on a 32 round course I was going to have to reload no matter what kind of mag I had. I shot a larger match recently and they had two or three 24 - 26 round courses and if I had had the "Big stick" I wouldn't have had to reload. That is what I wanted it for mainly.
  11. Shot the Taylor Freelance +10 today,...no issues......Still need to shoot it in a match, things happen in a match that never happen anywhere else....
  12. Got the mag extension in yesterday, I read their instructions and installed it. All I could get in it was the "plus 10" as advertised ( I had read different places that you sometimes could get a round or two more). On the first full capacity load, I ejected them out with my finger and the follower hung up in the bottom of the mag. I took it apart again, filed some more on the edges of the magazine bottom like instructed and made a couple passes on the top leading edge of the follower. Loaded her up again and it worked. I need to go and shoot it before I call it a success. First impressions are good, the 27 rounds in that mag give added weight to the Glock. I like a heavy pistol.
  13. I have a Taylor Freelance +10 base pad on it's way. I have seen some at matches, some worked and some didn't. The last one I saw that was having problems made me wait till now to get one, I will test it with several rounds before using it in a match. I am hoping for the best, my Open Glock is a flawless piece of machinery now, don't want any problems.
  14. A handgun is a tool, which should you use? answer some questions; What is the purpose of the pistol? If reliability is the only requirement, find one that hasn't been redesigned, one that has John Browning's original tolerances for reliability, use factory ball ammo, use brand name magazines. Competition? Well, that's a whole 'nother can of worms,...what game are you going to play? Be prepared to tweak periodically, reload your own ammo. Expect some issues from time to time, competition guns are like tires, there is one for virtually every driving condition. self defense? Get a Glock, use quality ammo, and don't mess with it!
  15. I currently use 124 grn. Berry's bullets in 9mm, velocity is 1200 fps, never had any problems. I have used both standard and double struck with no issues.
  16. I have used both in my Ruger 77/22 Varmint, in my experience the "Match Extra" is better ammunition. It groups very well in my rifle. It is on par with Federal Gold Metal Match, in my opinion.
  17. I just put two no. 357 batteries in mine and will try it out at a match next Sunday. Just playing with it around the house, I can't swear it's any brighter....I am hoping though. I also have the Arrendondo shield on it as well.
  18. For what it's worth, I just chrono'd my loads today. Glock 17,Open division, Carver Major comp, 124 grn. Berry's bullet, 5.5 grns. Autocomp, average velocity from this pistol with a Lone Wolf barrel was 1192 = 148 P/F. Comp is working, obviously not to the efficiency of a major P/F load, but the dot stays in view on the C-More. Slight muzzle rise. I watched a friend shoot it rapid fire and the muzzle rise seems to be a couple inches. Gaging the rise by watching the end of the comp, could be a little exaggerated due to barrel tilt while unlocking?
  19. To answer this question, all you have to do is watch Bob Vogel and Dave Sevigney (when he was with Glock). They shot Glocks and took striker fired pistols to a new leveI. I shot the Pro-Am a couple years ago with my Glock 34, I felt confident with it. I was able to watch Bob Vogel and Dave Sevigney shoot their Glock first hand and it was impressive to say the least. What impressed me the most, was watching Bob Vogel shoot his Glock 34 in Limited (iron sights) and then shoot the same pistol in Open (dots and comps) against 2011's all tricked out and I think that year he came in 3rd over all ? That says volumes about the capabilities of the pistol and the man behind it. I shoot my G34 in USPSA production division and a tricked out G17 in open division. I am a "B" class shooter, it is not the type of gun that is holding me back from advancing. Shoot your Glock with confidence.
  20. I use the 002 Cup Challenge for my 625 and my 327 R-8 with no issues. It is a great all around holster for USPSA, ICORE, NRA Bianchi, and Steel Challenge shooting. There are faster holsters, but it holds the revolver secure and really doesn't slow me down on the draw.
  21. This whole thread is refreshing to say the least. I like shooting my revolver because it feels like shooting is supposed to feel. You feel everything happen, unlike a bottom feeder where you think about pulling the trigger and it goes off. I read some humorous posts with comparison to women (wow, you can tell that us men are sure simple creatures, very funny though), and then I read Bubber's post about revolver shooters being just good people. That says volumes, I have seen Bubber at a match and he is always smiling, never met a stranger, just enjoying the day. I guess revolver shooters are like the "ugly ducklings", we might not be as fancy or pretty as a tricked out race-gun, but think how the "bottom feeders" feel when a Revo-Pilot bests them with 150 year old technology? At the end of the day, it's all about the fun and the fellowship in my opinion. Thanks guys, good luck at your matches!
  22. I'm sorry guys, it's not with Black Bullets International, the order I placed was with Precision Bullets. Sorry for the confusion.
  23. I placed it on the website and got a confirmation,...that doesn't mean anything really, but it didn't say "not accepting orders".... Who knows, I do not need the bullets right now, so I can wait..... Keeping my fingers crossed.
  24. Placed order yesterday, I don't need these bullets for a few weeks, so I'm hoping for a timely delivery. Great bullets though, I have used 9MM and 45ACP without any issues. Good company to do business with.
