  1. As a member of an "outlaw shooting club", we mimic USPSA matches adopting their safety rules but creating our own divisions so as not to exclude anyone (which has been very successful), We are discussing going 100% USPSA as a club adopting all their rules and divisions. This ruling makes me second guess that decision. I shoot "production" division with a Glock 34, I have added after market sights, Glockworx Production trigger, 3-1/2# connector and a spring kit. I do not know the actual trigger weight, I honestly do not believe it's 3 lbs.. My Glock 17 which has the stock trigger and a 3-1/2 lb. connector and my polishing job is actually a smoother trigger. All that being said, I really do not like USPSA ammending the rules once the rule has been in effect for so long. Production division was appealing to me due to the fact I could do it and feel competitive without an expensive pistol. It's a whole lot easier to add legal modifications than it is to take them off. They will be money wasted when this rule goes into effect. Thanks USPSA, this sport is already expensive to some.
  2. After reading all this, I see many valid points, many great ideas. Competition breeds innovation, you cannot regulate that. No matter what division is modified or created, someone will figure out a way to "game" it. I have been a member of USPSA for more years than I can remember, I look at the equipment today compared to when I started, and I am amazed at the human inventive spirit. When I started shooting, a competition gun was pistol with adjustable sights. There were no dots or compensators, no hi cap mags. A Browning Hi-Power was a game changer with its high capacity of 9mm ammo. The competitive spirit took over because someone figured out that with certain changes and additions to their pistol, they could overcome the lack of experience and ability and compete with the truly talented shooters. So, no matter what you call a division and no matter what rules you make the shooter adhere to, someone will figure out how to game it. The ONLY way to keep it fair, is to do like NASCAR, create templates and inspectors to examine each pistol insuring that each competitor is equal in every way. The main drawback to this is the reason I no longer watch NASCAR, it's BORING! I do agree that you can't have a division for every shooter that shows up, but the divisions that are available now, pretty much capture the majority of shooters. Oh, and lay off the absurd, how does painting the inside of a magwell impact anything? Really, someone wins their division because their magwell was painted? Give me a break, you don't really believe that?
  3. I changed the sights on my PT1911 and it shoots great now,....Dawson precision has sights for the PT1911. Their plain black fixed rear will fit with just a very small amount of work. The sight comes a little over size, only a thousanth or two, but it works. they say that you need a .180" tall front sight, but I put on a smaller Dawson front sight so it would raise the bullet impact and it shoots point of aim now. Overall, with a very minimal amount of soft filing, Dawson PT1911 sights work great.
  4. Sorry, I meant to say it was hard to get some months ago, I honestly haven't looked lately, but HP-38 is of the same flake size and close to same burn rate. Could this be a good substitute?
  5. For 9MM Major, has anyone looked at HP-38 powder. On the burn chart it's right there with HS-6. Many years ago I used Winchester 540 powder for a 9 x 21 in major P/F with a 115 grn bullet. Of course no more 540 and no more HS-6. Just curious, possibly going to have a 9MM Major Glock soon, just exploring the possibilities. Thanks for your input and opinions.
  6. I got to dry fire the revolver he was using at an ICORE match in 2007,...the action was really smooth, but not light, just very smooth. He told me that he has put heavier trigger return springs in, the trigger has to stay in touch with his finger. I have been very fortunate to see Jerry shoot many times over the years since I live in Louisiana, to this day, I am still amazed at his ability. He has always been one of the friendliest guys on the range and doesn't hesitate to answer any question, no matter how elementary it might seem.
  7. Thanks for the welcome.....very interesting products at SJC,....I would probably have to buy a new G17,...mine is a very old first generation pistol. It still shoots great. I have shot it for years in limited and limited-10 divisions. I am seriously looking at the major-9 catagory if I plan to continue shooting in USPSA.... Thanks again!
  8. I have been wanting to go to "open" class,...with my age and my failing eyes, I have to rely on glasses just to see the front sight,....I want to go to "9mm Major". I see that you went with a GLOCK,...that would be the most econimical way for me to go also, I have everything needed for a GLOCK, mags, holster, etc. The company that you got your open gun from, did they convert your gun or do they sell the complete gun ready to go? Thanks for the info.
