Like Duane said, it's all about practice. I was terrified of trigger tickling when I first started out, so I worked and worked and worked at it. I ended up making sure that everytime I pick up ANYTHING gun shaped, I index. Now, the guys at work make fun of me because when I'm using a drill, I index on the frame between running screws or drilling holes. I even index on my nephew's toys when I'm helping clean up around their house. Mac

On a standard Beretta 92, if the safety is engaged, the hammer will drop, so cocked and locked doesn't work. There are a couple varients that are single action, but I don't believe the M9 is one of them (92 Combat, CB, and Steel I are the only ones I can think of.) If you have it holstered with the hammer back, God love you, because the single action pull is all that stands between you and crutches. The XD still has the grip safety and trigger safety to overcome before it can fire, so any time your finger is not in the trigger guard, you pretty much cannot fire the pistol. I would never go cocked and unlocked with a xx11 pistol holstered. My 2011 has barely a 2lb pull, and if my finger even got close to the trigger guard, it would take less than a blink to pop off a round. I'm ultra slow with my xx11's at this point as I'm still in Production mode, but that is specifically due to making sure my thumb doesn't drop the safety until I'm about 60-70% extended towards the target. I quit a stage this past weekend. 40 and 50 yard poppers. Got the closer ones and ran 2 extra mags from my new G34 before I decided it was better to save the ammo and move on. I will be sighting in that pistol and practicing that shot, though. Mac

Couple things off the top of my head: 1. I hate arrogance. Confidence is one thing, blatant arrogance is disrespectful to everyone. 2. Obviously, the guys picking the teams did not give Athena and Maggie the respect they deserve. 3. The point of the show is the same as last season, we give you a weapon, you excel or go home. It's not Top Shot (Custom USPSA Open Gun Edition) Saying that the big names might not have done well because it's a box stock 1911 with no trigger job sounds like a very weak excuse. Jay hit with it and he was shooting Cup and Saucer (as were several other shooters). 4. I'm seriously considering DVR'ing so that not only can I skip the commercials, I can skip all the backstory and drama junk, and just watch the competitions. 5. If Bass Pro is going to sponsor, hopefully they will start stocking some of the gear that we will see this season, which would be great. Mac EDIT: Chris was single action shooting during the practice. He was cocking the hammer with his weak-hand thumb, which made it much faster. At least, that's what I saw.

If you reload, and you are unsure, load up some mousefarts to start. Drop a super light recoil spring in there, and run some ~110-115 PF loads, and see how he handles them. If that goes well, move up to match level ammo, then up to WWB or similar factory. If he handles the .22 well and is excited about moving up, then as long as you think he's safe, he should be ready. I started with too much of an upright posture. My cure was to keep my heels off the ground when shooting. The only way to do that is to move your weight forward over the balls of your feet. Eventually, you'll adapt to keeping all your weight and balance forward. You can test that theory by trying to lean back and keep your heels off the floor. Don't do it with a gun, though, the people who live above you won't be pleased. Mac Oh, yeah, and don't lock your elbows. Not sure if anyone mentioned that.

The daughter's "God and me" comment from the first episode and last nite's little graphic "AK47 = Assault Weapon" helped me to decide I have better ways to spend my time. Oh, and just out of curiosity, is there a new requirement for machine operators to be completely tatted up with crazy piercings and freaky haircuts? Not that I care, but if you see anyone on TV on any channel operating anything from a welder to a lathe, they look like walking billboards. Apparently there's crazy money to be made operating machines at small shops, because that much ink isn't cheap. Mac

I just got my 3G1 last week, and I'm very surprised at what a difference the rifle length gas system makes. Don't think I'll ever go back to mid-length. Only change I'm considering is an ACE stock, which I would have to do to either rifle anyway. Mac

My average on my SDB for 9MM and 40 is right in the neighborhood of 400-450 per hour, as long as the primer tubes are ready beforehand. My 550 is only slightly faster because I don't have to worry about the shellplate snap like I do on the SDB. Neither of these speeds are by any means "ripping" through the ammo. I find working smoothly is better for me, and plenty fast. I know I could very well top 600 per hour if I NEEDED ammo in a desperate hurry, but my shoulder would turn purple and fall off after the loading session. Mac

I have 4 rigs on DAA belts. Recently had to go CRSpeed on my SS rig, since the 1.5" 771 wouldn't fit on the DAA. Tried to get Safariland to swap belt loops, but they wanted me to buy the 1.75". For 6 loops, it was basically the same price as a new belt. Mac

Ghost pinless for Limited rig, Blade-Tec DOH for 3 Production rigs, and Blade-Tec Stingray for SS. Considering going to a Guga for Limited if Bart ever stops buying all the ones that come up for sale! Mac

This is correct. You can actually still find some 92F slides running about. From what I understand, if you had such a piece, Beretta will modify it for you (mill the slot) and send you the large hammer pin. They actually go through the trouble of stamping an "S" after the 92F rollmark to pronounce that it is now the "safe" version. Mac
