  1. While I don't have any empirical evidence, I would say that most people will initially perform better with a platform that is the most comfortable. (Not that subjective things like "grip feel" cannot be overcome.) While most people in this game tend to look for the longest site radius, there are arguments for both sides, such as longer site radius helps for longer shots and shorter site radius (shorter barrel) makes for a lighter front end for transitions. All in all, I'd repeat the thing I've heard over and over, "Get something that fits you and practice, practice, practice." Mac
  2. Absolutely not. There are far too many sites that offer all the politics and religion you can eat, 24/7. It's great to have a place where we can leave that at the door and just concentrate on "not concentrating" on the shooting. Mac
  3. I'm actually looking into a way to mount an RF-100 above the primer feed tube. That way, there's no interim step. Not sure how it's going to work, yet, but the theory seems sound. Mac
  4. I'm in the process of teaching myself to actually see the "A" in the A zone before I break the shot. Having a visual cue to work off of is helping me get my head on straight, and stop point shooting. Mac
  5. Made some PVC target stands last weekend. Taking them down to the range this weekend to do some quality live fire. Been stuck in a hotel in Indiana this week airgunning the mirror. Thought about bringing my rig and some targets, but I didn't want to freak out the housekeepers with targets taped to the walls. Mac
  6. My wife fully agrees with the Blade-tech DOH on a CR Speed or DAA belt. One other thing she did was use CR Speed mag pouches because they tend to stick out away from the belt a little more than the others, which gives her a little more "hip clearance." Mac
  7. I have 3 DA belts with a mix of Ghost holsters, CR Speed mag pouches, Blade-Tech DOHs, and Blade-Tech Tek-lock mag pouches. When I first started, I even had the factory XD holster and mag pouches squeezed on the DAA belt. Nothing has ever moved on my belts. Actually, if I ever decide to change holsters or pouches, I'll just buy a new rig, because other than the Tek-locks, it would be far more work to try to get anything off the belts. I picked the DAA belt because that's what Midway had. When I first started at this sport, I didn't know anything about the other great vendors, such as the ones on this site. But, now that I've tried them, I don't see any reason to change. Mac
  8. +1 to CR Speeds with a washer behind the insert. I was using the Blade-Tech doubles that I use for my XD but they are REALLY close together. Mac
  9. I actually have both. The cost of caliber changes ends up evening out since the SDB conversion comes with the dies. Once you buy the 550 conversion, you'll still need to buy dies. The time it takes to change caliber would be pretty close, maybe a little faster on the 550 if you had toolheads. 550 toolheads slide in, while SDB toolheads are screwed down. The only reason I would recommend the 550 is because it has more room to work, and it seems a bit smoother without the auto-index. Of course, that might be because my SDB is MANY years old, and my 550 is 3 weeks old. Mac
  10. Thanks, George. Actually, it doesn't take any cajones. I'm already a bald, fat, goofy-looking guy, so I have nothing to be embarrased about, lol. Bill aka Mac
  11. 3/25/10 Ran 3mph on treadmill for 20mins. Man, am I out of shape. Conclusion: I've got some work to do. Dry fire for 1hr 20mins. Draw - 2 Upper - Relaxed and Surrender Par at 1.7, never made it Reloads Draw - 2 Upper- Reload - 5 Lower Relaxed and Surrender Par at 3.6, never made it Conclusions: I didn't get as far through Ben's workout as I had hoped, but I stumbled upon some pretty major fundamental flaws already. I need to work on my mag handling on reloads, I tend to fumble the grab. I am also pushing the front ever so slightly. I need to slow down and start over.
  12. After competing in the BITB, I've decided to move my shooting to the next level. I'll be using Ben Stoeger's dry fire drills, as well as Perfect Practice. I will more than likely end up with Steve Anderson's book as well. My short term goals are: improve my shooting (6 shots, 2" group, 11yds, 6 seconds) improve my stage planning (stage breakdown, getting in and out of positions, CoF flow) evaluate my current gear and replace/upgrade as necessary shoot a 0 penalty match Longer Term: Move from low-C to high-C/low-B Lose weight to improve mobility and stamina Be competitive at Level II matches Get professional instruction OK, here we go. Mac
  13. 7 was my best as well, made 17th in Prod. Stands to reason though, because this big ole' body doesn't get up and move too fast. Anytime I can stand and shoot, I do better. Mac
  14. I just picked up my first Open gun, a Tanfo that used to be kitestir, Jordano, Cocobolo, and someone else's, lol. It's made the rounds through the Beno-verse, and I'm having a great time shooting it. Mac
  15. Great match, Corey, and all at BGSC. I can't wait to see how big this gets, and I'll be at all of them! Mac
  16. Great, I get to lose to rotary engines, too! I'm just excited to wear my Team BEnos shirt! Mac

Ya know, a real man would plant a .45 slug part way in there and wait for the questions. Glad to hear you're doing well. Mac
  18. Did you have all the locations on the shellplate occupied when you set the seating die? I've heard this can cause some variance. Mac
  19. Zero 124FMJ VV N320 4.2g CCI SPP 1.145 OAL Whatever brass happens to roll underfoot at the range. Works perfect in 7 different 9mm pistols, all from different manufacturers. Depending on how bad the primers set me back, I'm in for $.12-.14 per round. Mac
  20. Alright, it's in the mail as of this morning! There will be a plaque for LOA, right? Mac
  21. Corey, Is it too late to mail in an app? When I sign up, everyone gets to automatically move up one place on the Score Sheet! Mac
  22. Money's no object? CZ Shadow with the Ultra-Complete CZ-Custom Job which includes Angus hanging from the grip. Might have to get a backup with Matt Mink attached, just in case. Mac
  23. Granted, I'm still totally a beginner, but post #28 in the following thread really helped me get the sequence of how things SHOULD happen. What EXACTLY do you see? Mac
