  1. They reportedly make nice parts, just be aware that at least for me, they weren't willing to make a barrel the way I wanted one. I guess if you want one of their catalog offerings you should be good to go. I lost interest in White Oak barrels when John told me they wouldn't make a 20" barrel profiled to .750 from after the chamber to the muzzle. Several other manufacturers for me to choose from and I won't be going with White Oak.
  2. The IT guys at work say that the virus programmers haven't discovered women yet. I've always liked that explanation.
  3. I didn't even know you could secure it to the post. Mine just sits there.
  4. It was around 40 when I did it plus shipping. The spring can't break after that because there isn't one. Its replaced by a metal spacer. I sent them my heavy piston and had it sealed.
  5. Where is the pool of people coming from with 10 round open guns? Is there another shooting sport they are popular in? Steel shooting or something? Production guns loaded to capacity are limited guns in my view. Stick on a few basepads and get 20+ rounds in your G17 and go play if you really want.
  6. Production is a success story, leave it alone. The impression I got was that IPSC shooters wanted the capacity dropped to 15. 10 is a great number that allows people in ban states to compete and it's easier for an RO to keep track of than 15 rounds. I might could see eliminating the 6 round limit in revo for minor PF guns, that may give the ICORE limited guys a place to play without obsoleting all the 625's people have been shooting for years. The divisions largely work with a vast majority of factory offerings fitting neatley into one or more divisions, lets not go out of our way to mess that up.
  7. There are pictures here of a member and buddies carrying a BP into a basement.
  8. Well slap me silly. I didn't know a static converter could be had so cheapley. Last I looked purchasing a used BP had me around 2k to get it to my place and running. Then my wife told me the living room was not an acceptable place for a mill. Ill look again when I can build a shop.
  9. For all the posters saying that a used BP is anywhere close to a benchtop in price are you also factoring in the cost of transporting the machine and/or a phase converter? You will never be able to turn a profit doing gunwork with the small machines. But you will be able to do quality handgun work for yourself.
  10. That machine will do most any handgun related task you need. I have made sight cuts, flat topped slides, cut cocking serrations, and made frame cuts for ramped barrels. As long as you use sharp cuttters and respect the size of the machine you will be fine.
  11. The Lee bullet is a good one, and it comes out of a 6 cavity mold which is an excellent bonus. I used Blue Angel lube with great success with Solo 1000 as the powder.
  12. That's exactly what mine started doing after it was repaired the first time. Mine went back with a note explaining my feelings about the sight.
  13. My poor wording again. I like the look very much, I can live with a tool mark or two.
  14. I was going to remove the bulk of the material with a mill and just use the tool to dress the crown. I hate to say this but I'm not overly concerned with how it looks. Since it will be covered with cerakote. Plus the muzzles of my 1911's are always coated with fine layer of fouling.
  15. Thanks for the advice Shaun. You don't know how much I idolize you for the hacksaw 1911. That gun inspired me to put my own stuff together.
  16. The guy that taught me this used 5 B's. The four you mentioned as well as bigstick (it's how he referred to his magazines). He joked that everything else could be procured on sight.
  17. I've seen a few guns that have had the barrel cut off to be even with the bushing and then a crown put on them to recess into the bushing a small amount. I'm assuming a lathe is the best way to do this but I was wondering if the bulk of the material were removed if something like Brownell's 79 degree crowning tool would work. I'm looking at the one with the replaceable pilots to match bore diameter. What say you all? Go for it or don't touch it since you don't have a lathe?
  18. I'd call the Travis Gibson a bushier version of the Kurt Miller.
  19. Remember if you buy brass cased ammo you can recuperate $50-60 per thousand rounds by picking the cases up and selling them. My reloads run around $170 per thousand when you take into account number of loads on cases and range pickups. Hornady and MG 55gr FMJ's can be had for less than $100/K, you just have to buy in bulk.
  20. Amazon carries liquid lanolin as well as most pharmacies and healthfood stores.
  21. I know of it happening with Speer 230gr 45 ammo in a SA 1911. I've only seen it once with reloads.
  22. I had to send mine back after the elevation screw broke. After it was repaired the entire rear assembly came loose and started swinging vertically and laterally. Sight failed with less than 2,000 rounds each time after it was installed. I'm giving them some time to get back to 100% and then I'll send it back again. I will probably just ask for a refund or credit on some mags, the sight has ruined enough matches for me.
  23. Jugs of solo differ hugely. I have to run 4.8 behind a lead bullet to make 173 out of a 5" gun at the same oal. It takes 5.1 to make 170 with a 180gr jhp. Your charge weight seems high but not entirely out of the spectrum of possibility with solo. This is why I'm not ordering it anymore once I finish my last 10 pounds or so.
  24. Lone wolf lists a 6" 20 slide, Heath's is lightened I believe.
