  1. Ok, when this was over, I was laughing pretty hard thinking about how comical it must have looked to my other squad members. At the match last weekend, it was hot as hell, and I was taping my ass off. When it was my turn to shoot, I found that I hadn't reloaded my mags. I hurriedly filled them (1st mistake), shoved them in my belt (2nd mistake) and got to the shooting line without holding anyone up. As it turned out this started as one of my better stages. I saw the dot clearly, moved well, and when it was time for the mag change, I hit it without hesitation. I remember seeing the inside of the magwell, and shoved it home while on the move, no wasted time here...As I approach the next port, I notice my gun looks funny and as I look, the mag is hanging out like some sort of 300mm contraption. In my haste to get to the line, I had put my mag in backwards. When I slammed it home, I never saw anything but the "hole". When I tried to pull it out, it wouldn't budge. I must have pried it 3 or 4 times before finally holding my gun at hip level with my wrist on my side and using my body as a lever to get it out, all the while mindful of the 180. Man, it was in there hard. When all was said and done, I think that it added about 12 seconds to me time. And when I had a mental image of myself, I had to laugh out loud. It was wrong, but it was fast. Mike
  2. Thanks Eric. Just how many ports have you seen over the years that were too high? I am getting to old to squat for a port, and don't ever remember standing on my toes to fire a shot.... Mike
  3. While I didn't exactly shoot the match as good as planned.... I was at the pool (with drink in hand) from around 7:45 until about 8:30. I did talk to azone41, but left thinking that I must have misunderstood the location or time. Mike who had a great time
  4. My first big match since 1979. I'll be there in squad 2.
  5. I remember being pretty fast on the Cooper Assult, and in fact ran it in the low 18's at the 1978 Nationals. If I remember correctly, it was scored points first, time second. One point down, and all the speed in the world won't do you any good. Which is exactly what happend to me...... If your elbows weren't bleeding, you were not going fast enough. And don't even think about elbow pads back then....... Mike
  6. Yesterday around noon, we lost a great marine. He could have been a recruitment posterchild. He server 23 years for us. As a skilled bass fisherman, he could both find them didn't mind telling others where to find them as well. He is the only person that has a spot named after him in Florida's Lake Okachobee. Joe Moore's Hole. He could have turned pro golfer in his earlier years, but instead liked playing with his money aginst your money. He was also able to tell a story with the best of them, and as will happen, slightly embellish it with each telling. He had the greatest moral compass that I have known in a man, and as a result, relied on his instints instead of what is politically correct. In children, this often resulted in the application of a belt. In an adult, this often resulted in the delivery of a belt...He was a character, and icon in the best sence. Bye Dad, I love you. Mike
  7. This is good news to hear. I ordered 2 mags from them 2 weeks ago. How long did it take from the time you ordered until delivery? Mike
  8. You could also try to find some grey PVC. Not the pipe, but it comes in sheets as thick as 3 inches. If there is a plastic shop/distibuter, you could probably get a piece the size of a sight for free. You can machine it, sand it, drill and tap it, weld it, glue it, file it, scrape it, polish it, well, you get the drift... Mike
  9. This is the correct answer.....Be confident in your ability to see your sights at YOUR pace.... Mike
  10. I had this very thing happen to me when I started working up loads for my major9. I was using 124 star bullets .356. When I reached major PF, the bullets could start leaving small rings in the chamber just in fron of the lands. It would keep the gun from chambering. I think what was happening, is that the bullet had a big jump to the lands, and was slightly upsetting, causing it to enter the bbl somewhat off the axis of the bore. When I started loading longer, this stopped. I also lightly knocked off the sharp edges of the the lands with a bit of valve grinding compound, used with a cotton swab and wooden dowel. So, have you just started using the star bullets, or have you receintly shortened your oal? Are you using a sheumann bbl?, and are you using a major 9? Mike
  11. I have both, and they are both reliable. The issue is how long you intend to load your ammo. At 1.16, both should feed without a problem (unless you have a spacer) Mike
  12. Here in Central Texas, we are about a week or 2 past the prime berry pickin', but never the less, I was out picking the last of them yesterday afternoon. I made a blackberry cobbler, and after putting a few scoops of vanilla (blue bell of course) on top, ate until I could hardly move. Life is great...... Mike sidenote: Picking berries is pretty close to picking up brass, a thought that went through my head all the while I was picking, instead of practicing.....
  13. I think that one more option on the poll could be: Afraid to fly, but do it anyway for the time savings. Mike
  14. My F250 Supercab diesel is still on the original pads 120,000. My wife's car needs pads every 30k, no matter what. I think that a lot of it has to do with the driver. Mike
  15. Allright, dammit, I remember...... Mike
  16. David, That is such great news. I think we feel our children's pain 10x. Good for you and her... Mike
  17. While Frostprof Range would allow a nice vacation (and visiting relatives ), I would like to hear from the West coast people....would they attend, or is that too far. I would hate to exclude any more than necessary because of location. Mike When you live in Texas, most every location is reasonable.
  18. I think Tivo is great, but beware....If you plan on upgrading your system to HiDef, your tivo will probably not work. I couldn't get the Tivo unit to change the channels on my direct tv Hidef box. After calling, they told me that they haven't been having great success with hidef and tivo. But given the choice, I would take Hidef over Tivo, now for the wait for the Hidef dvr's to come down to a reasonable price.. Mike
  19. Ok. I noticed the SPS magazines in the latest Frontsight, and was wondering who is using the $65.00 170mm magazine that claims 29+1. What was the shipping cost to the US, and do you like it. (does it work 100%) Thanks, Mike
  20. I think that this is a great idea. Count me in. I can't wait to try shooting everyone's guns. Maybe a stage where you must trade guns on a man vs man. And a BBQ cook off. Man, this is going to be Sturgis with a gun. . Maybe BE members only until a certain deadline, then open it up. This has so many possibilities.... If you host it, we will come.... Mike
  21. I don't want to drift the thread, but with respect to having loaded mags on your person while in the safe area makes me believe that even though the magazines are on your belt, you still have loaded rounds in the safe area. I never take a loaded mag to the safe area no matter where I am carrying the mag. Mike
  22. Schlotzsky's original Popeys spicy w/red beans and xtra biscuits 4 bucks worth of 2fer99 Jack in the Box tacos any shack that serves chopped bbq sandwiches
  23. I'm with Jim on this one. Try to work up a load with True Blue. There are a bunch of short guns out there with bbl holes that make major with TB and run. I would get my blaster checked out. I don't think it is the caliber or load. Mike
