    Dog Mauling

While I agree with you about dog owners being responsible for the actions of their dogs. I find it rather odd that the public thinks it's OK to profile dogs, but it's not OK to profile people. Personally I have more faith in dogs than in people because a dogs motivations are simpler. I think Diane Whipple probably would have still died even if she had been packing a .45. She simply wouldn't have shot the dog because she probably loved animals so much. Knoeller she probably would have dropped in a heartbeat. I'm suprised Knoeller didn't get the chair for UGLY in the first degree! We live in the land of multiculturalism where we're supposed to celebrate our diversity, but it's against the law to point out our differences!
  2. Whoa Nelly, I think I'm shooting with the wrong hand! Right handed I'm getting .62 Left handed I'm getting .56 I also tried right eye-left hand, and left eye-right hand no difference, my left index finger is just quicker than my right. I wonder if it has anything to do with how many times my right index finger has been broken? It somewhat resembles a corkscrew!
  3. At the last open match I wanted to build a 50-50 stage, ie. 50 yards to the targets and 50 yards between shooting positions. Unfortunately we don't have a bay large enough so it turned out to be a 40-30 stage. Man you should have heard the whinning! "It's too far.....to the targets!" In order to shoot all of the targets you had to shoot around the left side of a barricade then through a large kneeling port then run the 30 yards to the next barricade shoot around the right side then through another large kneeling port. Being the tall skinny guy that I am the barricade shots turned out a little harder than I intended. Whoops, you mean not everybody has a 76" armspan, and 38 inch inseam. Funny that nobody mentioned the 30 yards between shooting areas just all the complaints about the distant targets.
  4. Forwarded from the net: Good morning. I have received email numbering in the hundreds this morning, 2/28/02. Please excuse me but this is a cut and paste response. Please know I am reading each and every email and trying to answer questions. Please go to the following link and read the heading. http://www.progressivefunds.com/hci/ Scroll down until you reach the Computer section and you will see Dell listed. This is a Handgun Control support site. Please come to your own conclusions. For updates please go to http://www.jackweigand.com/dell.html I am trying to keep that as up to date as possible. I will be on quite a few talk radio programs today so stay tuned, LOL! I am receiving over whelming positive response from my family, the Firearms community. I am receiving a limited negative response from some but I support your right to free speech and you have my blessings. I thank each and everyone who has responded to this issue and taking the time to care about our 2nd Amendment Rights. God Bless HeHeHe
  5. Just shamelessly posting for #50 so the other ball will drop. Hmmm, it appears that I have miscalculated somehow. Has the mission count been raised? (Edited by Nolan at 12:03 am on Feb. 28, 2002)

    Dim C-More

I've been using the small C-more dot module (3 or 4 minute), but it washes out in bright sunlight. I've got the Limcat dot module hood and a new battery. Does anybody modify C-more dot modules or should I just try a new module?

    Chronographing

Hey Erik, When I'm loading for a big match I'll load and chrono 20 rounds using all the same lots of components I'll be using at the match. If everything checks out, I'll start loading for the match. For every 100 rounds of match ammo I'll actually load 110 rounds and pull 10 rounds at random. Each 100 round lot will be kept seperate and labled. I generally will load double the match round count. Then when I'm finished loading, I'll chrono the 10 rounds from each lot. If any of them are off, I don't use that particular lot for the big match. I don't like to load up more than a 1000 rounds at a time because someone may discover a new ulitmate load that is better than what I'm using, or my gun may change it's tastes in ammo, etc... Also I load 10 pf above the power floor. The only time I've been close to not making major was the Y2k Area 2 match. Next time it's that cold I'll remember to warm up the gun and keep my magazine under my arm pit (are you reading this Greg!?!) to make sure it's nice and smelly, er warm.
  8. Yeah, the gun handling on "Way of the Gun" was pretty good, but the 'thinking' part was pretty bad. 3 minutes into the movie and the main characters were laying in the parking lot bleeding, 80 minutes later they were laying in the parking lot bleeding. Slow learners?
  9. Quote: from Shooter Grrl on 5:06 pm on Feb. 18, 2002 Bad weekend #2 - why can't I get any slack, huh? I don't know? Probably because of all us other slackers! I'll give you a hint though, ever hear the old saw "Nice guys/gals/persons of indeterminate gender finish last" Now you know my secrets for winning!
  10. Next time you're at the video store rent "Curse of the Jade Scorpion" Very funny. I'm not a real Woody Allen fan (parts of Sleeper were pretty good) but this is probably his best film. 1.5 hours of Woody and Helen Hunt insulting each other was priceless.
  11. One of my favorite gun blunders is an old John Wayne movie. I believe it is Red River (I'll edit in the correct name if I'm wrong). The good guys (Wayne, et al) have just crossed a river and are hiding in piles of driftwood firing at the bad guys across the river. When the Sheriff runs out of ammo the Duke gives his Colt SSA to the Sheriff who promptly AD's almost into his foot. He gets a very sheepish look and cranks off the next 4 rounds with a flinch worse than Mel Gibson's. My other favorite is Chuck (Tim Conway) on Mchales Navy. Mchale tells Chuck to put away the .45 he's waving around. Chuck looks at the gun and says "Down for Safe" Bang! "Ooops Up for Safe" Bang! As a general rule I just love how many times Hollywood will chamber a round in pump shotguns. I've seen some characters rack the slide as they are getting ready, then rack the slide again as the action starts, then rack it a third time when the dramatic moment arrives and they never once eject a loaded round!
  12. I have a Barnes story for you guys that happened at the '95 (I think) Norco Safariland Friendship Classic. The super squad was following our squad on a stage called Die Hard. This was my brother Gene's first big out of town match. This was the last stage of the day and Gene was going to video tape my run. I was pretty focused and wasn't paying any attention on what Gene was doing. About halfway through my run I had a death jam while trying to negotiate a flight of stairs. After I finished the stage I was pretty pissed about the jam and right in front of a bunch of laughing super squad members. Oh great, I can just imagine the comments. As I'm dumping my mags into my range bag, Jack walks up and says "Hey man, it wasn't me, I didn't say anything!" I look at my brother Gene who is laughing and shaking his head. Jack is looking very worried and he takes off to parts unknown. Now I'm really getting mad until Gene says "Don't worry about it, just wait until you see the video tape." The rest of the super squad is very studiously ignoring me. Back at the motel we watched the video and when the Die Hard stage came up Gene turned up the sound just in case I might miss the special sound effects. Rob Leatham and Doug Boykin had Beavis and Butthead voxboxes that they held next to the camcorder throughout my run. "HeHeHe, Asswipe, Hey man let's break something! and Buttmunch!" echoed all through the recording. Actually it was pretty appropriate. So Jack, it's OK I wasn't mad at you. And I built all those water trap stages at the Golden Gate matches as revenge on Rob and Doug, too bad they didn't get wet!
  13. Quote: from Erik Warren on 11:16 am on Jan. 22, 2002 Now I'm glad I don't shoot at that club. Careful Erik, you're developing that Richmond attitude of looking down at other clubs. I've shot at Richmond since 1988 and that sort of attitude has been prevalent the entire time. If another club doesn't put on the same type of match as Richmond they are snubbed as amateurs, ie TASC, Oakdale, etc... Maybe that's part of why Oakdale had 93 guns vs the 30? at Richmond. Sorry for the offtopic rant. By the way I finally got my 2000 Overall Championship buckle from Richmond. I found it in the trophy box by accident today while looking for last months plaque. I guess it would have been expecting too much to be notified that they had FINALLY arrived.
  14. I've had mixed results with Moly coated bullets as well. I've had very good results with Billy Bullets and very bad results with Bear Creek. Billy has a very good process for coating the bullet and he casts a pretty uniform bullet. The coating stays on, and isn't oversized. Bear Creek doesn't cast a very uniform bullet, I've found 20 grain voids in the base of a couple of bullets. Their coating flakes off and they are not uniform in size or concentricity. I've tried other brands and had problems with most of them, several were oversized or not concentric after coating and wouldn't chamber. I just gave up and shoot only jacketed bullets.
  15. I shot it really, really, really fast! Well, ok fast for me. 10.8 seconds down 9 points with the limited gun and 9.3 seconds down 15 with the open blaster. I shot basically left to right starting with the lower targets moving up to the upper target in groups of 4, then reloaded after the 8th target and so on. I thought this pattern gave the shortest transitions. Just stood flat footed and didn't budge. Keep it simple stoopid!
  16. I occasionally use AA# 9 to clean out my comp! About 20 rounds will clean out all the gunk that likes to collect in the dank, dark corners. The bang, bang, KABOOM, bang, bang, KABOOM will also get you some funny looks at the range.
  17. I've been using Arrendono springs in all of my 140mm mags with good results for over a year now. So far I think I've only replaced one of them for fatigue. I don't baby my mags, I load them up full and keep them that way all day. They don't go in my belt unless they are full, no mistakes that way! I've also had good results with his followers in both .38 and .40. My experiences with ISMI springs has been pretty mixed. The first sets worked great, subsequent sets have been disappointing. They fatigue very quickly between the second and third coil. They also twist pretty badly, the Arrendondo springs don't get all twisted up.
  18. Quote: from benos on 5:05 pm on Jan. 4, 2002 . Maybe it's like the "soda straw through a telephone pole" analogy. Until the soda straw hits tornado winds type velocity, it will have little effect penetrating the mighty telephone pole. The tough ol' nail, however, will drive into the pole at relatively low velocities. It seems as if the variables of the speed and mass of the straw, and the resistance offered by the pole must be considered? be Brian, I grew up in Tornado country (western Kansas). The secret to the soda straw through the telephone pole lies not in the velocity of the straw. It is the cyclonic wind twisting the fibers of the telephone pole opening them up allowing the straw to enter to be trapped when the winds pass on. There's no place like home (click, click) there's no place like home (click, click) there's no place like home (click, click) That's why I live California!
  19. The latest revision of the lead weight turners use a brass plate to reinforce the lead weight so the slot doesn't become elongated. Another problem with turners is wind. Sometimes a gust of wind will either delay or speed up the turner.
  20. I agree with Erik about putting some humor in stage designs. Lord knows our club could use a sense of humor. I've built a stage where the shooter started with a Tootsie Roll Pop in their mouth. Yes, it was after Halloween and I had one for everybody. But you should have seen the look on their faces during the walk through when I said we would all be sharing one Lollipop! I named that one "Suck my Lollipop" I've named stages: Balls to the Wall Yank my Chain Absolutely Fabulous But I think the best one was: Erik made me do it Nolan
  21. I read a lot of SciFi, OK I read a LOT of SciFi. I really enjoy David Weber. I read most of his books, but hesitated to read any of his 'Honor Harrington' series. yeah, yeah woman hero, space opera, right! Well, I read "A Short, Victorious War" OK, so he plagairized the French Revolution, it was still a good read. The next day I went to the library and started with the first book in the Harrington series. They are a little predictable, but he is not gentle with his characters. Another good author of SciFi I haven't seen mentioned here is Lois McMaster Bujold. Her series of VorKosigan novels are great, lots of action, and way too funny. 'A Civil Campaign' is hilarious.
  22. We just watched "A Knight's Tale" I liked the mix of old story (peasant boy masquarades as a noble so he can enter jousting tournament, falls in love with noble girl) with modern music and a bit of humorous history. I only wish I had seen it before the Nationals. The scene where they come to London for the World Championship to the tune of "The Boys are Back in Town!" would have been quite fitting for Quincy. The jousting scenes are great! Whew, those guys were real men and the sheep were real nervous! Another good one was "Just Visiting" with Jean Reno. It's a Hollywood remake of an older French original with Jean Reno and I think the same guy plays the lackey. As usual the original was slower, but I think it was funnier.
  23. Quote: from benos on 2:34 pm on Oct. 16, 2001 Hey, I ate a donut covered with ants once, in total darkness. be, I grew up in western Kansas and as a kid we chewed wheat instead of gum. One day I walked by the wheat barrel, grabbed a handful of wheat and started chewing. Wow, who put the raisins in the wheat, this is great. Then I discovered the raisins were dead flies! ACK!!! Funny, they tasted great while I thought they were raisins.
  24. >I loaded up a bunch of Limited practice ammo, and none would easily drop in the chamber gauge. Turns out the (cast) bullets were .402". C'mon, guys, just melt them down and try again, don't dump them on us suckers. < Erik, A lot of the moly coated bullets will be somewhat oversize as they are sized before coating. The coating isn't always applied in a uniform thickness. I've seen several different brands that were slightly oval after coating. It doesn't seem to affect accuracy and generally doesn't affect reliability. On a similiar note, it's not uncommon for prizes to be cosmetic rejects. One of my STI frames was a 'blem'. 25. Chris, Buy a recoil spring tester from Brownells. Once I found what spring weights and lengths worked well in my guns I measured them for compressed (gun open) and extended (gun in battery) weights. Now every time I clean the gun I measure the springs and if they have changed I replace them with the same weight springs. When they do change it is a fairly small change in weight not a drastic collapse. In my Open gun using 115 gr bullets I run a 9 pound compressed/5 pound extended spring, with 124 gr bullets I use a 10 pound compressed spring. In my Limited gun using 180 gr bullets I run an 11 pound compressed/6 pound extended spring. I like measuring stuff so I am thinking about building a fixture to measure my mag springs.
