  1. Been struggling a little with recoil control..Took a hard look and the gun really doesnt come back to the sight picture i need fast enough. I shoot with arms 3/4 of the way extended and elbows down..dont know why its just what i do..lol BUT I views some footage of top shooters and specifically looked at some training vids of Bob Vogel and some of them are shooting arms out , elbows up, shoulders up. I DID try it and there was a remarkable improvement in how much faster the front sight came back to where it needed to be. However the position feels awkward..so much so that i am not sure if practicing it is ever going ot make it feel right. Thoughts? suggestions?
  2. OK SOMEONE smarter than I am figure out a way to make primers.. maybe time to go buy an old flintlock..one bullet primed and charged is better than none at all! lol Darn stages would take forever
  3. This is the first match away from our small club in MN that i have been able to make. What a GREAT experience. Had a great squad! The RO's were professional and did a great job. The match seemed to be very organized for the most part and they kept things moving along. To EVERYONE from the gals checking us in to the Match Director a HUGE thankyou for a job well done. phil
  4. Yeah that stage was going great..did a mag change and swept out my last mag i needed..ugh..was ugly. The Lim was runnin perfect and everything was going great til that point..lol I need more competition in Lim10..if i can win 1st on a night like last night? I didnt earn it and that bugs me. I push myself harder when i know I have to bring my A game if that makes sense. I did the same on stage 1..stayed wide on port before the star and missed seeing a target..no excuse really but by then i was feeling pretty miserable and just struggled to finish it . I only missed once on the star but a 35 sec run on that stage was all i could muster. Oh well going to load some more tonight maybe if i get time and start practicing more..the heat is supposed to drop at least some anyway.
  5. Your doing great Dave...congrats again!..NIce to see the hard work is paying off for ya.I stunk it up bad last night. ALso half way thru the shoot the heat got me. Set up started a little after 2 and by 7 i was paying for it. Oh well still had fun and the Star really was fun to shoot!!!!
  6. I have loaded at least 15k 9mm and tried several powders. So far Solo 1000 has worked the best. The other powders all seem to burn the base of the bullet enough to cause leading in the barrel.
  7. Sure sounds like Glocked brass to me..Had the SAME thing happen in my XD AND my Limited...I chamber check very last round. Last batch of 500 i loaded i had 5 in a row not make it..They wouldn't seat in the barrel unless i pushed em in and then had to pull hard to get em out...funny how only 5 did it and i got em one after another..before you drive yourself nuts chasin a problem all over the gun..chamber check every round..if the prob goes away you got it..if not then pursue other areas. No sense in trying a bunch at once to really never know what the exact problem was....my .02.. Lee undersized die(U-die) 185 gr 4.3 gr Solo 100 1.180
  8. hey ya dumbass...lol love it..just takin it all in..your doing well it appears! I havent picked up the gun in almost 3 weeks..too many family interruptions...arrgg..excuses i know. See ya Wed!
  9. Thats awesome Dave!!! You have earned it..all the new training/drills is going to make you a force to be reckoned with ! Call me if you need some extra hands or help gettin ready. We can do some training together if youd like. We can video movement etc too to break that down and see what we can improve on etc...
  10. Wax...You get my PM about the rack??? Thought ya might stop up last night
  11. I have had only a few feed problems. I run an undersized die, 1.180 OAL lead bullets. Crimp is where it should be and i get a minimal hour glass shape to the brass..once fired range brass. The only problem I see is the mag lips are not at the measurements mentioned above. WHat is the easiest way to narrow them without doing any damage to the mag surface???
  12. I run heavy lead in my Production guns with very good success...(147's in 9mm and 3.4 gr solo = 890 fps) But for the new Limited thinking... Right now using 185 gr precisions and 4.3 solo for 925 fps or 170pf Thinkn'bout trying some 200's .anyone been on that road already?????
  13. SO TRUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Top notch service..I ordered stuff from him and he was boxing it up as we were talking!! Of all the stuff I have purchased this Spring( and man have I spent too much money)...he has hands down been the best. Extremely helpful and friendly. ......
  14. Well i have 4 kids shooting and one is a girl and also my wife shoots. If i can tell ya anything its let em pick their own..lol Id rather try buyin em shoes than buyin them a gun and we KNOW how THAT would work:) SHe has to try out as many as poss..it really does make a difference. I got lucky, everyone in my house likes the XD Tactical. The plus side is its light and the easy to move from target to target. With light springs and loaded down 9mm 147 gr bullets it shoots so soft that its incredible. My 11 yr old sons small hands even have no prob. The only thing we did to it for small hands is put an extended mag release button on it. Buy her what she likes i guess.
  15. Your draw is fast for sure..same way i used to do it. I shaved off some time though. I haven't shot to steel on draw. My fastest time is Draw from surrender for an A hit at 10 feet is .76 ..From DOH rig. I moved my right elbow to be more above my gun. That way all I have to do is drop my hand to my gun. No elbow movement hardly at all. Before that my draw had minor " sweep" to it much like yours appears to..I ve only got a year in this game so take that for what its worth
  16. When i put in a 10 # recoil spring I can feel the difference in a 180 pf over a 165..The slide speed is greater and it has a tendency to "bite" my hand a bit harder. While muzzle flip though IS a seperate issue for me . I can shoot anything as long as the frt sight settle right back where i broke the first shot. I am NOT a large guy and actually a gun that shoots a tad soft shoots better for me. The right combination of powder charge/bullet weight and gun springs is the key for me. My 9mm i shot last yr in Production was like a BB gun..I used heavy 147 gr bullets and SOLO also. I had many say the same thing about mine. Then muzzle never lifts much when fired. But it was again a light spring and the right combo. I tried several powders and a few actually did " feel" different..Prob not enough to shoot different tho..lol
  17. So far my load of choice is: 185 gr Precision lead bullets 4.3 grains of Solo 1000 light crimp CCI primers Mixed brass 1.180 length 900 fps very soft recoil, no leading issues
  18. Thats an idea, same length just drilled and tapped for a 3 diff length shims that also extend rearward
  19. Wel..not yet..lol I am working with a machinist who can build a longer mag release. While the one that was posted with all the extra parts is cool it's not cost effective to build. I am considering having him make the same release but longer . It wil do two things, make it easier to reach of course for the mag changes but will also prop the gun grip up a little for those table starts. BUT the first one of course is the most expensive to build. I will do it if enough guys want one. I can then sell them to cover my expense of having the first one made..Let me know your thoughts or suggestions
  20. Not sure about the body position but the mag change needs work and the draw does. He dropped his head on the draw and the mag change needs to happen a bit higher. IF you go to Benstoeger.com there are some awesome help vids.

    The AKC

while I can certainly agree with the response about AKC HOWEVER..even worse is John Q public that breeds either by accident or other wise..Many GOOD breeders breed for conformation as well as ability. Dogs with good feet good teeth, good lines perform better int he field in speed agility and can hunt longer. Many can even hunt longer into their years as their body//feet legs do not break down. So yes ability is a great thing but someone also has to breed to maintain structure as well as skill ..other wise the breed lacks in that area
