  1. You started into your quest because it's fun. Well practice your mag changes, grab enough gear to shoot and go. A DOH holster from Bladetech, mag pouches and some extra mags. Find a USPSA club and go to the next match. Let them knwo your a newbie and they will help ya. Dont worry about being fast, just be deliberate and SAFE. Everything else will come with practice . DVD's and Books are great tools to help you get better but go have fun first! Then work on it as you go. My .02
  2. I measured good cases and bad cases. I measured at the case bottom and the non feed rounds measured .393 and above. Any case that was .392 and below my die would handle no problem..above that they would not resize enough. I got the undersized Lee die from EGW. It solved the problem and resized the brass perfectly
  3. Case gauge and the new undersized die on the way...dang Glocks anyway....lol thanks folks!!
  4. What does a Glock do to it? I am using the dies that came with the new Dillon..what does the Lee die do differently?
  5. Loading moly lead Bear Creek 147's .. have run a few thous rounds thru the gun never had a problem..I checked them originally in barrel and because I never had a problem I quit checking..well you know what happens then...get to a match and the rounds jam because they are too large just at the very end near the case base..I have changed nothing on my Dillon 550..What causes this? I found about 25 out of 300 that wont fit in the barrel. The only thing different is the brass..I got some from a buddy and it is that batch of brass doing it intermitently. Side note: I am going to switch over to some Star brand jacketed bullets I got for better bullet consistency..the lead ones are all over the place with OAL
  6. not a real experienced shooter..5 matches so far..Production Xd out of a DOH Holster. When I started my draw was slow so I have been practicing quite a bit. I started at about 1.35 for an A shot. I can draw and fire and get an A now at .90 ..sometiimes at .85 but that feels waaaayyy outta control. Second shot was .35 now down to a steady .20 most of the time NOW ..I can do that in the yard but not in a stage..must be in my head..lol My rt hand relaxed at side sweeps up and over a small push into the palm to grip the gun hard then a very fast sweep up then out to target. h From surrender I slam down very hard into the gun for grip then up and out HARD the ease the brakes on as I extend out... Rookie but thats what I do...
  7. Ben.. well if that wasnt your A game I can't wait to see you really tear it up then. I enjoy watching the guys that are good at this game. It gives me things to try at home to improve my game as well...If I get as good as I can possibly be then thats all a guy can do..Besides I love shooting in the yard for practice....it pisses off my neighbors....not really but they HAVE to be thinking what the heck!!!!lol
  8. Yeah there are plenty of sports/hobbies where no one will help you and like you said..flat out lie to you. Just to give credit where it's due here tho...One guy has been instrumental in helping me out ..he was patient even with the dumbest of questions !!! Some may know him some may not..none other than Mr. Harmon Pierce from Pine Island,MN. great guy for sure. Ben you were th GM that kept me from taking first on a couple stages at Holmen..Congrats, your good!!!!!!! I am not out to"beat" anyone..I just want to be as good as I personally can get thats all.
  9. Just set up my new Dilly 550.. using Winch 231 powder..powder charge keeps jumping around from3.2, 3.3, 3.5 i have the small powder bar in and cant seem to get a consistent drop..any thoughts??
  10. loading on a new Dillon 550 I noticed a slight waist look to the center of the case after crimping in the last stage. I loaded on a friends 550 and that didnt happen. ALthoug he uses different dies. I am new to the pistol ammo so pardon the question if its a dumb one..
  11. shooting 9mm for now but will check out the .40 info
  12. waxman..we prob saw each other but thats it..Look for the guy wearing the black XD shirt..lol I watch Lucas every change i get, he is very good. I have picked up several things from him that have jump started my learning curve quite a bit. I might order the shoot faster vids just to have them. It never hurts to keep adding to information sources no matter what hobby you have.
  13. Thast what I thought..gonna try the Dillon crimp before I bother buying anything.. what is accdptable/normal crimp size in comparison to the area below the bullet ?
  14. oops..yep burketts...lol i'll re-watch the vids again musta missed something as I feel i have gotten all i can from them..
  15. Got the Dilly 550 set up for 9mm.ready to start loading. I used a buddies 550 so I am a little familiar with the process. I have loaded thousands of rifle ammo on my single stage..BUT pistol stuff is new to me. I was told to use a Lee crimp die instead of the Dillon crimp die. He said he thought the Lee die did a full length size/crimp at the same time? Thoughts? Also how do you set crimp? how is it measured etc???
  16. I have been to 4 matches so far. 1st match I placed 7th ..shot like crap and was trying to go too fast. 2nd match I had watched Brians 1-3 vids and had done ALOT of dry fire and live fire practice..I placed 3rd. The next match was full of newbies and I finished 1st. My last match i placed 3rd again out of 17 production class shooters. I was beat marginally by a B class shooter who took second. The GM shooter took 1st. Interestingly enough I was neck and neck with the GM shooter on two of the most difficult stages. One stage he beat time wise by less than half a second. If I hadn't dropped 10 points I would have had that stage. The other 4 stages I just didnt shoot my best .. What videos are recommended to help with transitions and speed? I know accuracy is important and I work on that too.
  17. Welcome and you've come to the right place! I ordered my Dillon 550 on Tuesday !!!
  18. Zeros are supposed to be good bullets..wish I had some to try. I am currently using up some Bear Creeks moly coated lead. If you havent tried 147 grainers you should...I have shot several different weights and really like the feel of the 147's. A nice push rather than a sharp snap for me. Shooting a XD 9 tact.
  19. My time is at 1.0 to 1.10 for solid A hits...splits suck at .39 tho..
  20. I ended up with a 15 1/2 pound spring..I really dont care for the feel of it. It will do until I get these reload shot up then I a m going back to my stock spring and my other load set up. Thnks guys
  21. Although that wasnt my orig question... Why would a light spring wear out with light loads any faster than a heavy spring with factory loads? Are the 1911 springs that prone to wear?
  22. I need to change my recoil spring on a XD 9mm tactical..I understand that the 1911 spring is the same. Not sure what the weight of the stock spring is anyone know? Also with a stock guide rod is it just drop in and go or is there something more to it???? Probably will go at least a few pound lighter to cycle my light reloads.
  23. Name: James Stinar - a30909 S&S Casting in Illinois anyone have any experience with his stuff????
  24. currently using 147 gr bear creek moly bulelts. Loaded w 3.2 gr 231 ..950 fps..feels pretty ncie..recoil is comfortable and I can one hole shots ..very accurate. The 115 and 125 gr bullets are a bit cheaper and easier to find second hand. Shooing minor PF in a 9mm the 115 & 125 are going to use more powder of course and therefor changing recoil..maybe this is a dumb question but what recoil is easier..heavy bullet low powder or light bullet more powder? My main reason to switch is I can usually find the lighter weight bullets second hand as where the 147's are usually purchased retail...thoughts?
  25. tungsten disulphide or "Danzac..is supposed to be superior to moly I am hearing..no build up at throat area like moly..Also darn easy to apply to "naked" bullets..anyone using it?
