  1. Pardon the stupid question but what do you mean use a little more spring? Also whats meant by"fitting" the spring? I assume its not drop in and go then? I am shooting 147 gr bear bullets w moly..3.2 gr powder for 950fps..gun shoots nice but just want to try a light than stock spring to experiment a little..
  2. Do you have to change the guide rod to utilize 1911 springs??
  3. I was there for that one Rick..You handled it like a champ...I hope to handle it that way if and when it does...It was too bad you had a good shoot going too. Thanks for hanging out and scoring things. All you guys in that group made for a fun shoot. I cant remember when i had that much fun! Everyone helping out and kidding each other the whole day.The new guy Adam could not have asked for a better group for his first match. Hope to see you at another match! Phil
  4. gonna be about 10 degrees Sat here w snow and ice on the ground..still shootin! lol bbbrrrrrrrrrrrr
  5. I do realize a better sight picture will also help. However the recoil loss will also help me get the sights back on target faster. I would rather get the guide rod/spring combo and tie it all together at the same time. I was practicing with my.22 and can really drill em where i want them due to lack of recoil allowing me to get the sights on target faster. I was thinking that if I can get recoil minimized it will help..while I realize it is NOT a fix all item but just one thing I can do to enhance the other if that makes sense.
  6. When practicing shooting I am noticing my second shot on target is off..When transitioning target to target I am all A'son first round..my second shot is an A or usually C...I am thinking recoil is gettin the best of me. What mods can I install to ease recoil ? I dont reload pistol ammo yet so minimizing loads is not poss yet. What guide rod or spring combo or other ideas for XD9 tactical production division?
  7. Looking to purchase some cardboard targets to put up at my practice range at home. That is once the darn snow melts some and it gets above 10 below Wheres the best place to order some? Gettin tired of dry fire practice and looking forward to some live rounds
  8. I am breaking down each movement and not going to the next until I reach a goal for each. I practice draws to be consistent at first. So far I am at 1 to 1.10 evertime. I will get better but am pretty happy with speed and where my grip is. No sense in a lightning draw once per match then screw it all up due to crappy grip. I am moving on to target transitions and splits. I was just curious where I am at in comparison to others in time...
  9. I know everyone is different and that accuracy is foremost..BUT what is a good speed to shoot for? Production class, Bladetech holster...Speed from surrender position to "click" on the dryfire....?
  10. Cant seem to find what these patches look like..anyone care to share a pic or direct me to where I can view 'em? thnks
  11. I see several DVDs for beginners but really not sure which one to choose...Any suggestions from anyone that has used a few? Which ones are a "must have"?
  12. 60 hours is a part time job for me! lol..I work 40 hours for a company then I Do have my own business as well. I also am divorced and raising my kids alone so I know ALL about shortage of time AND money. MY kids all love to shoot, my oldest (law enforcement in WA) is probably going to do USPSA out there as well. My daughter who is 15 flat out shoots any boy who dares come around..lol
  13. Yeah my ammo bill is onna be hunge ...lol..the 1500 I aoready shoot is strictly my rifles for long range work..Does not incl pistol ammo or my .22
  14. If most folks knew how much spnonsor money was thrown around at a local dirt track for stock cars theyd wouldnt believe it! It aint Nascar either but several drivers are getting 10-25 thousand dollars each for sponsor ships...Heck even a few hundred to help with fees n ammo n gas money..A club could put business cards from sponsors on a bulletin board so members might choose to do business with those that sonsor our sport. ..just a thought
  15. OK..bulk ammo aint cheap even bulk...anyone care to share a nice load for Production class shootin 5 in Tactical XD? I load for rifles and have never loaded for handguns so have all the relaoding stuff except dies unless more is needed than I dont know about...
  16. well dang it..might have to buy stuff for that...OK here we go....Ill start another post....lol
  17. shooting production 9mm..i do reload but at this time only for my long range rifles. I am not set up for reloading hand gun amo. What would be suggested for ammo ..lighter bullet weight? Heavy bullets? What recoils less?
  18. Anyone had any experience with the "Production ready" guns from Canyon Creek? http://www.canyoncreekcustom.com/Production_Ready.html
  19. It is for production USPSA only( at this time anyway)
  20. Using an XD tactical . I know i know....everyone seems to vote for the holster they are using as the "best" BUT what seems to be the one you see the most of at a meet? I want to avoid spending money on 10 different holsters to find the one I like or functions the best. Of course speed and retention are the primary ingredients...Thoughts?
  21. yeah thats true as well and something to be aware of. I guess an understanding of # of matches etc and whats expected would be in order for sure. I already go thru over 1500 rounds a yr shooting misc firearms at home. This way at least I can be working toward a goal rather than just punching paper for groups.
  22. I know quite a few people and several friends who are business owners. Several of them have already offered to sponsor it to promote their business. I was talking to a couple over lunch and they asked me if i needed sponsors. They are VERY familiar with the sponsor aspect as they use it in their racing sport.. I was thinking about takin them up on the offer to help get things going. I would dream of hitting up anyone at all much less a friend unless I was already accomplished. BUT i figure since they offered I would ask...I just dont want to show up at a match and be looked at like an idiot..lol Its hard enough to go do new things without folks judging you...I am not going to go thru with until i see how it goes at first. One said he'd pay couple hundred in ammo to have his name on my gun cases etc..Then it grew from there..lol Talk went to business name on back of shirt and since more people would see that he offered to buy my next gun if I could make enough matches...lol It got outta hand in a hurry..lol...I have done a lot for the two guys I mention over the years. They are mostly trying to help me in return yet get something for their money at the same time... Not tryin to be a "big wheel" at all or show off..heck i'll get my butt kicked at the matches anyway but at least I might not have to pay the ammo bil!
  23. I ordered a timer and it should be here soon. I was curious what my time was to draw and fire so I here is what I did. I gave my stop watch to my son and had him time. He would say GO and I'd draw and fire a unloaded airsoft gun.At the "click" he'd stop the timer. I know it isnt the same as drawing my XD but it gave me a starting point for practice. I stared at 1.56 adn within minutes was at 1.10 . I cant wait for the timer and my holster rig for the xd to start for real.
  24. I know many sports especially the local stock car racers utilize sponsors to help fund their hobby. Does anyone do this or is it considered tacky ? I know the pros that shoot use them but how bout just a regular weekend competitor? T-shirts with sponsor names would work and would help pay the ammo bill. I could afford to practice a lot more and would help with moving up in scores etc..
  25. thanks for the tip..it makes more sense to direct it down..now why didnt i think of that?
