  1. It's not a matter of having a right to an opinion. It's a matter of the weight your opinion carries within the group and it's relevance. You and I are friends. But your opinion on IDPA means nothing to me. Just as my opinion of USPSA/IPSC carries little if any weight. Yet that's exactly what happens here Mark. I can't tell you how many people have posted opinions on IDPA rules that were prefaced with "I've never shot an IDPA match". Mark you and I are both supporters of any and all shooting. I don't care what game you play, just participate and build the sport. If someone is anti (insert your game here) I don't want to hear about it. Stick to your own lane and STFU. We're adults, people are capable of forming their own opinions without all the negativity. I honestly don't know if it happens in the USPSA threads but it's past old over here. Not necessarily different guidelines. I would say definitely different purpose and objectives. We all know why IDPA was created and why it is run the way it is. BW didn't like the direction of old game (which is as you say a membership cooperative) so he INVESTED his money, took the financial risk, and created his own game and now, as is common these days some people resent that he profits off his investment. Heart be still! I don't care about the finances of USPSA and I don't understand why the hubbub about BW's finances. We're talking $35 a year from the members. I spend more than that on wet wipes for my range bag. Any of you financial wizards do the math and figure out what he nets on IDPA and I'll guarantee you there are better investments out there than owning IDPA. Mark, with all due respect. I'm just calling people out who decide to come to our end of the pool to relieve themselves.
  2. Mark, Now I know you like a vote when rules changes come about. Hey, works for your game and that's great. I don't have to go into why IDPA was created do I? That's exactly why that system doesn't for for this game. End of story. It only seems to bother some shooters, mostly former IDPA shooters that IDPA operates the way it does. You know, there are a lot more people making money off my shooting than Bill Wilson. By your logic I get a vote in how they run their business? Only if I'm a share holder. Do you vote on the salaries for the people who run USPSA/IPSC? Honestly, I don't know. For whatever reason there's a small, vocal contigient that hates BW and or IDPA for various reasons. Boils down to whining to me. Many just can't say, "Hey, IDPA just isn't for me..." and leave it at that and go play another game. Instead they feel compelled to go online and rant ad nauseum. Me? IDPA isn't perfect. I have problems with a couple of rules. Rules that were instated to draw lines for the range lawyers. Rules that to me are just don't make sense tactically. They are GAME rules. Deal with it or walk. It's a game afterall. I get tired of members of this and other forums who don't shoot IDPA or never shot IDPA coming in here blathering on about the rules. What makes them think that those of us who do shoot IDPA care about their opinion? If you shoot IDPA and have a question or something constructive by all means, let's hear it. Otherwise you're just trolling and wasting BE's bandwidth. Because it always and I mean ALWAYS devolves to IDPA SUCKS BECAUSE.... Hey, maybe it happens in the USPSA forums too. I wouldn't know. I don't shoot the game so my opinions on their rules are MEANINGLESS. Which is why I DON'T POST in those threads! [/rant] Mayo
  3. Other former BoD members are Ken Hackathorn, Walt Rauch and Larry Vickers, and Dick Thomas (I think). They get a lot of input from the membership. They tend to pay attention to suggestions and ideas that are well founded, formulated and communicated. I'm sure most of the sniping comments found on the internet are ignored. America is a great place. Can't find something you like. Change it. Can't change it. Create your own. Pretty simple concept.
  4. Funny, we were taught 7x28 if you wanted reliability. Whatever works for you bro.
  5. You carry 7X30 round AR mags loaded to capacity? Who tought you that? Nobody is chastising someone for buying $1000 guns. Everyone knew there was a new set of rules coming. So going out to buy a gun specifically for the sport you right before the new rules comes out is STUPID. Please, are you that ignorant to not know that the weight of each of these high dollar Nighthawk Customcustom guns are listed on the websites and or in the catalogs? Even if they aren't wouldn't be wise to check if you plan to buy one to shoot competition? Here, I'll help you. Here's a few. Oh yeah, FYI There are Wilson Combat pistols that are not IDPA legal. Wilson Combat Ed Brown Kimber 99% of the people who participate in IDPA don't have a problem with the rules. For the rest, vote with your wallet and your feet. Simple as that.
  6. It's been done. Whatever floats your boat. We expect the left coasters to show up "stylish".
  7. You should be good to go in ESP. Not SSP.
  8. Just because some guy shows up at a match with a DE .50AE in a bagmaster shoulder rig doesn't mean the rule book should be changed to accommodate him. Same with the guy that shows up with a compensated Bersa .380 (who I actually let shoot the club matches). Go through the published specs of the major production and custom guns made and you'll find that most of them are within the guidelines of the IDPA rules. Just can't please everyone who finds out after the fact that they bought something that's a no go. Life sucks sometimes. At least now you have a reason to buy another gun!
  9. I'm no expert but 99% of standard single stack 1911's will have no problem making the weight limit even with FLGR and magwells. 9mm and .40 S&W 1911's might get the 2oz "break" because of the heavier barrels due to the smaller bores. Just a guess.
  10. You know. I've heard that same statement at sanctioned matches on stages that were clearly contrary to the rules. And not just from the SO but from two AC's at the match. It's a bogus statement and is usually used as an excuse for a poorly designed COF. Just sayin'.
  11. Old T-shirts work great. Cut them in half (ie down the sides) and use clothes pins to hold them to the target. That way you get twice the life out of each shirt since only half is used on each target. Hits through two layers will often distort the holes on the cardboard enough to affect scoring.

    Boobs

    Nortons work for you?
  13. Nice troll Cy. I always find it amusing how people who don't shoot IDPA like to interject themselves into IDPA threads. Slow TV night, I know.
  14. I had similar frustrations when I first bought my 550B. The guys have told you straight. Make adjustments with a case in each station, then lock down the dies with each station full and the floor plate raised. On to the primer system: My other advise afer many frustrating hours of tinkerins is to get some 1600 wet dry sandpaper and polish the feeding bar with the wet dry ultra fine paper either wet or dry. Also hit the inside the primer feed housing so that the bar slides w/out binding. About every 5K rounds I clean everything and relube where the reloader requires it. Get some case lube. Makes it all work great. The lee FCD is a must have if you reload ammo fired from a Glock IMO.
  15. My absolute favorite is The Searchers (John Ford) Named my twin boys after the John Wayne's character and brother. Most of my other favorites have been listed. I'd add Ridley Scott's The Duelists Monty Python's Holy Grail Terry Gilliam's Brazil The Battle of Algiers I'm sure I could rattle off a few more.
  16. I've shot every match this year using carry gear. I've had a lot more fun and to be honest It's nice arriving and leaving only having to change from carry ammo to training ammo and back.
  17. Some of us need all the cheating we can get. I just can't cheat fast enough to win. I specialize in missing fast to lose.
  18. You retired guys have way too much time on your hands. Joe's retirement age right? Mark
  19. 1911's in 9mm are like cheating.

    Broke It Again

What kind of life are you getting out of them? Any idea of round count?
  21. For the old folks in this crowd you should check out http://www.wolfgangsvault.com/ Bill Graham's site where they are playing all the tapes from all the concerts he recorded at the Fillmore East, etc... Some really cool stuff that's never been released on any format.
  22. IDPA is fun. And you don't need a lot of expensive equipment. You can bring your gun, 3 magazines, holster and double mag carrier and a shirt or jacket. IDPA is a great place to test your carry gear in a match environment. Learn good gun handling and safety. And learn how to draw from concealment. That said. It is a game. Not proper training. The rules are simple and common sense. It's not rocket science. And yes! Just show up! We do like new shooters. All the pistol sports are filled with friendly shooters who are willing to help new people. Go watch a match if you want, then try it. Or if you have the gear, dive in. You won't be the first new guy to have ever shown up. Mark
