No DQ, a handgun is considered to be safe as it is still the holster. There have been other posts on this subject.

My 1640's work very very well. Reliability is around one failure to load every 1000 rounds over several years. Para mags have not been a big issue in the past. Has someone put a STI style mag release in the gun? I would try a EGW extended mag release to see if that would help.

Walking through the gun shop today and the Stoeger 3500 Turkey model ( Black not Camo) with 24 inch 3 1/2 chambered barrel got me thinking. Has anyone looked at these as a 3 gun shotgun? The loading gate looks to be the same as a M2 and Versa Max, so it has a very large opening to get shells into as well as there can be a lot of the material removed to funnel shells in. The forearm is set forward with a thin reciever so the load 2 method should work very good. What got me to look closer was the $550.00 price tag for this model.

In 3 gun we never shoot 3 1/2 shells, but some of us use our shotguns for hunting too. Why not hunt with the gun that you put the most rounds through all year.

I am looking at a Versa Max for my next shotgun. When looking at all of the ads on the Internet the Field Model always list a 3 1/2 chamber. Many of the listing for the Tactical list a 3 inch chamber not a 3 1/2. Does the Tactical really have a 3 inch chamber?

If you use Dawson Para basepads(8mm) they will hold 21 on a 140mm STI tubes but will not fit in the gauge.

I use 11 coil STI with one coil cut off and STI followers with the spring tabs sanded down some. Need to square the tubes to fit the gun so the tubes will drop out with a spring or follower. Also need to open up the notch on the rear to fit the Para so the slide will not drag.

Most of mine will hold 19 reloadable and still fit in the gauge. Some older SVI mags will also work and will hold 20 reloadable still fits in the gauge. All have feed very very well for me. They are stainless steel and are a lot harder to tune(resquare), but lips stay tuned for years. When loaded up these mags are harder to seat than Para mags. Forget all have Grams 4 MM basepads.

Para Pro Shop has a odd website. If you work at it you can get double stack .40 for P 16 from Para. The last couple that I got were a little wide, just put them in a vise added a little pressure. work great now. I reshape all of my P16 mags so they will drop out of the frame with just the tube, no spring,no follower, no basepad. It sure makes faster reloads.

I think (that gets me trouble) that the P18-9mm are LDA's, Light Double Actions with a cocking cam. My P16-40 LDA Limited have a long trigger pull and about 4.5 pounds of pull to it. I was thinking real hard about getting a P18 for 3-gun. 23 or 24 in the tube would be great.

I have used a DMS-1 for 3 years now in 3-gun and have ran a couple hundred shooters as a RO, most if not all of them never turn on the electronics in these scopes. I am not sure if I every did use IR on mine in a match, but it is great for coyotes in early mornings. For a 200 dollar scope(form www.SWFA.com)is is worth every cent, but can not be compared to more expensive that also worth every cent they cost. Look through as many as you can and if you like it go for it.

Agreed.. buy a good optic AND MOUNT. Put a good trigger in it, get good optics, What is "good mount"? Best brand of ammo? Jack Midway usa has a really good price on Stoner mounts with built in rings.

The open shooter should not have been given a reshoot like most would agree, but after the second squib in the same match his ammo should have been considered unsafe (If they were reloads or all from the same manufature).

Remington makes a deer barrel with choke tubes that is 21 in. with rifle sights, also a turkey hunting barrel that is 23 in.

I would recommend the Para if you get a stainless limited, then put on a DP magwell. It will come with 2 mags, just get a couple more and 3 DP bases. You will have one of the best low end all steel guns in limited. Mine have ran at very near 100% over several years. My Para's have been a limited LDA now with around 20,000 round down the tube and a PXT Limited with around 5,000 round through it. Both still run great without changing any parts or springs. If I was to spend the money to build a custom gun for limited, then I would step up to a STI or SV. You will have the same amount of dollars invested.

Para placed a big PXT on most of the slides if it has the Power ext.

Not only are they in stock, but they are a great price from Para. You can install DP basepads and have 20+ loadable rounds for about $65. Try that with a STI or SV!!!!

I have seen this a several times at local club matches and at a few level II matches. The problem that I have with a RO scoring during the COF without using 3 RO's is this, the RO's are not doing their full job as an RO. The RO with the timer is working alone to watch the shooter, the gun, and the whole area around the shooter. The RO with the clipboard is not watch for any penialties or safety issues and if the RO is scoring targets alone, then nobody is checking to see if a correct score is being recorded, or worst than that people besides the RO's and the shooter are on the stage during the COF and the range has not been cleared. Yes I understand that this the fastest way to run a squad of shooters, but is it the safest way or the fairest way to run a stage? As a shooter I like to see the targets and as an RO I like for the shooter to know that they are being treated fairly and the same as all of the other shooters who shoots my stages.

I like Para mags with Dawson basepads, always gives me 20 reloadable rounds. My PXT1640 has over 5000 rounds with Power Ext. without a single problem(unless you count missing the link after cleaning).
