  1. I'm not a big Glock shooter, but I "set up" two yesterday (a 22 and 35) for a Glock match this weekend (I shoot mostly SVI's and XD's) after dealing with the stock trigger poor poor sights for a few practices. I went with the Heine sights (because I could get them next day, I would go with Warren/Dawson if I could have gotten them through Brownells), an ISMI captured guid rod with a 13# spring, Ghost trigger bar, Wolff competion spring set. The 35 had Dawon sights and a Brass well, and the 22 had a Dawson aluminum well and the mags all have the Dawson pads so they hold 19 with no tweaking. Ok, all that to say, both the guns shoot well enough to go as far as you would want IMO. They aren't as sexy or finished as my SVI's but they shoot fine. Adjut your shoulders a bit and they point straight too. It took about 50 rounds of out of off the shelf ammo to get the hang of the new 2.25 lb trigger and how it resets, but they were very shootable, and by the end of the practice with the fixed-up guns we were shooting our normal times/points on drills. A long winded way to say I agree with Flex. The simple upgrades I did didn't cost much, and the most time to fix them was spent fitting the Ghost part. They did make the guns more user friendly for a couple guys used to good guns. I dont even know if the mag wells make a difference but since they were on there already I left them on. My ONLY serious gripe with the Glock is that the mags don't fall fast enough on reloads and I'm waiting on the falling mag, but I'll fix that tonight "Have tools will modify"
  2. If your thumb is hitting the slide release, you might take a look at your grip. Your weekhand should keep your thumb off the release. Thanks for the kind words. You might try new extra power mag springs if it keeps up and you aren't riding the slide.
  3. Pretty good my butt. Those splits (.80 - .20) are faster than the Champions of the sport will do in a match most of the time. Harmon's splits are faster than most of the the great open shooters will shoot in a match, but they will get A's, most every time, not just hits. It is the A hits that really matter.
  4. Dremel or file and clean it up with sandpaper.
  5. I've had good luck with Schuemann's barrels, but so have I with KKM. Lots of nice stuff out there these days. KKM proved to be a stand up guy when I needed it once too.
  6. Simple, have the students start a target business and use the $ you make to improve your shop ps. You could make it a school project and get the other departments involed tool. Art, Lit, Business, Accounting, Computers, ect. a small business plan would be great for the kids. Seeing an opportunity and seizing it is what Amercia is about.
  7. If you had the looks of Athena or Julie, maybe Thinking of you guys in drag teaching a class or giving a demo in drag just sends chills down my spine, and not the good ones. ps. Nice job at the Nats Chris. I wouldn't want to be a female in the sport most likely. Too many men being boys, you would have to have very thick skin.
  8. Whew man, I was thinking I had a LOT of work to do Flex with those smokin' times... My FASTEST XD production run was 2.50 sec and had 3 D's 2'c and 4 A's and was sloppy as hell AND I went right left, left right, right left until I had the 9 shots out. I don' think I can pull the trigger and move the gun any faster than that.
  9. Just what are you implying??? HA, I wasn't thinking that. That would be a long time and a LOT of $$$ for tiny stand and shoot stages. This is my first glimpse of the match.
  10. Shooting minor L 16 at the Croc was bad enough
  11. I think they make a great L10 gun. Once you fix the trigger and sight they are awesome. Very ell balanced and easy to shoot. I've been doing lots of them lately, even a few for USPSA shooters, but they are a great gun for the money.
  12. Too bad I can't run the match with my XD I guess I'll have to break a Glock out of moth balls.
  13. It makes the gun easier to reload because the magazine doesn't get stuck in the hollow and it is an "External Modification." Right the rules to include or exclude certain products is very complicated.
  14. My one thing you can do is to use the take-up as prep in dry fire. Take the trigger to prep and then release until it is fully exteneded then take it up again. I practice breaking the trigger on a specific shot. If you do not prep your trigger you will be using .1+ to do it on target, and that adds lots of time in a stage. My 1911/2011 triggers are set up so that the pre and post travel are about the same, so it is good dryfire practice to let off as far as I need, no more no less.
  15. Steve, don't forget the new Sig in .40. It is sweet and ready to go.
  16. Bruce, Plus 1 on the dot drill. I had a student that sugested substituting "racy" pitures of females to help his motivation and focus. When I'm driving somewhere I've always snapped to telephone poles, lines on the road, licenses plates, ect, even before I was a shooter, just something to break the boredom. You can do it all day long too, for free. You have the will, so there is a way
  17. Nobody I know is putting that much into a production gun. The few guys that are, are ruining it for everybody. This whole thread is for the hundred or so people who don't get that Production should be as produced. Not about how much of a race gun you can sneak by. I've seen lots of them, for many years. Swapping barrel to shoot lead and have a supported chamber is very common. I know all the other mods are on tons of guns all over the country.
  18. Think it through first. No capacity limit and only 9mm need apply. Para 18 rounds in 9mm vs Sig with 12 in 40, what are you shooting? Glaock probably still in the race with 17 in the G17 and the G34, but G22/35 in 40? no longer competitive, any .45, forget about it unless your name is Robbie. Jim Those running .40's or .45 could run in L10 just fine. It would change the Production game a little, but I wouldn't mind losing the limit, more for political reasons. I think Clinton era limits should be trashed, but I'm fine running 10. I agree with the mag placement thing to. It penalizes ladies and juniors most.
  19. A new Glock 17 here goes for $525 + 10 tranfer. A KKM barrel to shoot lead $200 Warren Sights installed $90 Trigger Kit $5-$200 Guide rods $10-40 Grip Tape $5-$10 Extended release $5 Probably one of the more common production setups around. If you try to take that setup away how many folks are you going to upset? The door was opened with striker fired guns, and BIG companes will make decked out guns, so I don't really see a way around production being L10 minor as far as gear. Why 1911's are left out doesn't make logical sense to me since Glocks and XDs (and Sigs worked by Bruce Gray) can have very similiar triggers. My guess is 1911's are left out because of marketing the Division and the "image" of expensive 1911's. Guns being made today work very well, and as far as I can tell if you aren't winning, it isn't because of the gear. As far as production being a "arms race," I guess you could use that excuse for losing to a better shooter, but it doesn't make it true. People say Limited is an arms race too, but any basic hicap .40 will win in the hands of someone who knows how to use it. The "race guns" seem to be at a pretty mature point. It isn't the gear that is winning matches from what I can tell, gear that isn't 100% can lose a match but I haven't seen gear win a match yet. I guess a good thing about Production is that the guns used have been poured over and people are making them more user friendy, that is a good thing. I know for one I will be shooting Production along with other division, because shooting 10 rounds-minor does make me work on different parts of my game and presents new challenges, and it's just plain fun. I'll shoot it however it ends up if it adds something to to game. I would like to see the rules cleaned up though. ps. I shoot a stock XD with Dawson sights, grip tape, and my trigger and I don't feel at all disadvataged to those who spend more $.
  20. Dry fire times are much closer shooting open that limited. Limited times can be way off from what I see posted versus people shooting in matches and practice. Just hold the gun as much as you can, once you get it, it stick pretty well.
  21. Would you go minor against Dave shooting Major?
  22. Actually with the quality of Glocks, CZ's, and XD's it already is Limited 10 minor, without a mag well and gear behind the hips, essentially... S_I has most of the market on the Limited market due to the quantity sold requirement. If you could do prototypes in Limited you would see more creativity and some new products and gunbuilders, but few have the capital for such a small market with USPSA rules are in place that protect that market share. I sell 10-15 civilian to 1 USPSA trigger jobs, and lots of exteneded mag releases. There is a huge demand for improved stock guns OUTSIDE the USPSA caccoon.
