  1. There is a ton posted on this. 15 yards is many people's standard. Just know where it hits for different distances. I hold a tad high @ 50 and am fine with my zero at 15.
  2. Don't forget the skate board tape clause I like it.
  3. I totally agree, but I don't mind if everyone else uses crappy arrows. I hope people knock themselves spending $ gear and less on ammo
  4. I have a 1050 ;D What's the deal with the site, no bids on anything?
  5. Caspain race ready frame, because they are awesome.
  6. The big Dillon tumbler is easier to fill (I use 5 gallon buckets for my brass.) Less time messing with reloading stuff is better IMO so my vote is go big. The media seperator is a must have also.
  7. Our justice system is too soft on dirtbags, too bad he didn't have a better target presentation, good to here your guy came out ok.
  8. I have my Seredipty scope mount MELT when I was doing tons of plate rack drills in the summer heat. Now I bring a cooler with ice when it gets hot out. I use the red.
  9. I resemble that comment. Being isolated and gas being so expensive sucks. At least I have a student who wants to make master this year and has the time and $$$ to train. It has already pushed my own training up a notch. This forum has also made me push myself even more, even if I can't shoot more bigger matches.
  10. Might be just me, but I sand the inside (where the magazine goes) with 300 grit then 600 grit sand paper to a fine polish after making sure it has no friction points. I have found that sometimes the sear spring tab is too long or the trigger bow is not fitted properly and drags on the mag, so visualy inspect the well with the slide off and a full mag as well as and empty mag. The mags should fall freely with both. Any drag is bad IMO. sometimes I sand/file the mags too if there is a high spot. When you get fast the falling mag may have only cleared the magwell by an inch or two before the new one is on it's way in, so anything that slows the ejection of the mag can cause really bad things to happen.
  11. 2011 are High capacity double stack guns ie sviguns.com 1911 are single stack "traditional" pistols. The main difference is round capacity.
  12. I tried it for kicks last night (I am a righty) and it worked great , very natural no shifting needed.
  13. I have to disagree with the "out" part of what you are saying. I don't flinch and if I have a round not go off the gun dips very precisely down, not forward. I've been told it is very precise, just a pulse, but it's down for sure. Your strong hand creates a pivot point, so to control recoil aplied to this pivot point you have to pull down at the front of the grip on the lower portion. Pushing forward would be pointless. Recoil control is about counter acting the pressure applied to the pivot point, not the rearward pressure. Hold the gun upside down (1 bullet only, EMPTY MAG ONLY unless you want a full auto effect!!! WARNING not suitable for open guns and shorts) and it will recoil down not up. I can and do demonstrate this by shooting holding the gun in the weakhand only (normal freestyle grip) and just actuating the trigger with the strong hand. The gun still flips around the new pivot point, and not backward. ps. I double plug, if I don't my scores will show it.
  14. Random dummies won't do it at all, for the above reasons. If the gun doesn't go off and you don't move some, then you aren't managing recoil, you have to push back some or it doesn't work. Usually watching the eyes/face gives away a flinch, since it is anticipation of the recoil and not a reaction to it. Also, watch the hits on the target, they tell a lot. ps. Random dummies aren't bad, just not real useful for the use of flinch detection unless under the supervision of a trained professional
  15. The XD front sights I've switched out are not very easy to get out. You might consider having them installed for you. The dawson sights have served me well on my XD, even if they are a little tall. I would have gotten Warren sights if they were available at the time. Just black out the front FOm and you have a good sight picture.
  16. I know a lefty GM who does that.
  17. Very few shooters don'thave the struggle you are talking about, myself included. Learning to know and and trust your skills while pushing yourself is the hard part. Sometimes you will fall over the edge sometimes not. Removing desire works the best for me, without emotion I shoot much better. BE has helped me with this in becoming an observer instead of a doer. If I simply observe what I'm doing I perform much better and more consistantly. Being overly critical of your performance can lead to much anxiety, which can negatively affect your performance. Know what you can do and then do it, and don't forget to have fun along the way.
  18. If you get either of their guns you will have a quality piece of equiptment that will serve you well, even if you don't know what you want or don't know what questions to ask.
  19. If trying to trick yourself works then go for it. How long it last is how long you believe your self deception. Just trusting yourself seems simpler to me.
  20. If you have the stuff and you spend some time learning to reload (in a step) you should be fine. Is there a reason to buy a .45 over a .40 for limited, probably not.
  21. Sorry Jake, I just had to hear you say that especially since you've pushed me to try make .75 reloads the norm instead of the exception. I'm trying to get away from the notion of speed entirely. Just pushing my vision, preping the trigger on every shot, and calling every shot.
  22. Too many target types un-levels the playing field.
