  1. Hi, Yes we have chrono'd the loads, out of a 4" barrel the average PF is 202, its consistant across all 625's in the club. This is using American Eagle(Federal) ammo. May seem a lot of trouble, but its something that allows the revolver shooters to compete somewhat on a level playing ground aganist the other competitors in this area, whom can reload. Cheers ....
  2. Wanderer, Thanks, Forgot I would have to resize. So better to get Seating/ Crimp die alone with a resizing die. I was thinking of doing the reloading in small batches, and chrono the ammo, till I reach the desired load. Cheers ...
  3. Hi Guys, We have at present about 6 - 8 625 revolvers in our club. Due to the fact where I reside, we cant reload, we are forced to use factory ammo only. Today I did a quick main / rebound spring change out to try and get a better hammer strike on a revolver, because we had managed to get some factory Federal .45ACP ammo. With this quick change the gun is firing more consistant, the owner was always backing out the strain screw to get a lighter pull, but he didnt realise it would always come loose and not the correct way to do this. Trigger is still 7.5lbs, but I didnt want to mess around to much as he is going to a match this coming weekend in Thailand. The 230grain hardball bites like hell, and you certainly feel it after 300 rounds in a match, so after shooting about 50 rounds, started to think if it was feasible to pull the bullets and then reload them. Seen as I have a RCBS Rock Chucker press, which I had used for crimping .40S&W ammo, I could use this to pull the .45ACP rounds and load them down using the existing powder. So I am correct in my thinking I would need the following reloading equipment to do this: 1: RCBS Collet Puller and .45ACP collet 2: .45ACP Seating / Crimping Die ( what is the better option Roll or Taper Crimp? ) 3: .45ACP Expander Die 4: RC130 Reloading Scales and a Powder funnel 5: .45ACP collet for bottom of press, how could I order this as I dont see this listed on the RCBS webpage. Is there anything else required that I have missed ? Assuming that the powder in this ammo is a not commercially available, but rather a federal brand, I would need to weigh the existing load, and then work backwards to attain the desired PF or 175 instead of the 205PF. I do have reloading experience when I lived back in New Zealand, so I am just doing this to allow our revolver shooters to be able to compete with a lower PF load. Its not worthwhile to invest in a full press, as this would draw to much attention. A normal match here is about 250 to 300 rounds, so if it takes a few hours to do this its not a problem. Any advice would be appreciated. Cheers ....
  4. Outlook Express was always the FREE Email client that shipped with Windows OS. Windows Live is just another name for HOTMAIL, but from your Desktop. Windows Live is still a Beta version and not fully finished so many features are missing or undocumentated. http://www.pcworld.com/article/132400/first_look_at_windows_live_mailreplaces_outlook_express.html Personally I would just get Microsoft Outlook 2010, much easier to use, can easily setup a distribution list. A distribution list is based on people within your contacts. So you just create a new list, give it a name and then select the names from your contacts whom that go in that list. That new Distribution List will show up in your contacts, so when you want to send out a newsletter to that list, you select the list and then send. Cheers ....
  5. Most of the guys I know whom are using 357SIG in SD, are using necked down.40S&W. Reason they have lots of .40 brass and 357SIG brass is expensive.. Cheers ....
  6. Flexmoney, I only posted the relevant rule, as Racer377, had mentioned that IPSC allow .357SIG, but as you can see its not as yet officially approved and may or may not be approved. The main reason its there as a concession is to allow those regions where any caliber over 9mm in HG is not approved for civilian use. Which also gives competitors in those regions a avenue to shoot Major in SD. Whether or not you think the rule is badly written, that is way above my pay grade. Cheers ....
  7. Mike, You are getting OLD ... Yes definitely agree that round is very loud, worse than the 9x23 I use. Cheers ....
  8. IPSC Appendix D2 Standard Division. 17. 357SIG is also an approved caliber for Major, subject to achieving the applicable minimum power factor. This concession has been extended until 31 December 2014. Cheers ....
  9. Just a question on these incidents, did either the RO, CRO or RM, use overlays to determine whether it was "double" or not. As a competitor you can request the use of overlays to verify if it was indeed 2 shots, under Rule 9.6.8 Cheers ....
  10. I have gotten the same error on about 7 forums so far, some I can start to read such as Rules, but when try to go back error page comes up again. Cheers ....
  11. Sounds like you need more mainspring tension (longer strain screw), or a lighter hammer, to fire (harder) Winchester primers more than a longer firing pin. To me this is just an experiment to see if it works, I have lost nothing if it doesnt work, I will just change back to my Winchester setup, which is just a matter of changing the mainspring / rebound springs. But by doing this the trigger pull is slightly heavier. I will be *Carmonizing* my hammer as well, that might also solve the problem. Neither of the local firearms shops have strain screws and its a hassle to order and get firearms sent to Singapore. All comments and advice is welcome is welcome. Cheers ....
  12. Well, I am very certain that both Warren and Carmoney have many more closely guarded secrets. I have found that over the years, Revolver Shooters always go that little bit further to help their fellow Revolver Shooters in times of need!
  13. Warren, Thanks for the very informative reply. The need for a longer firing pin, is an experiment. My main WA1500 revolver was setup for Federal primers, but I am running out of rounds with Federal primers. We cant reload here in Singapore, but I managed to import some reloads 6 years ago and use these for match only. When I practice I take out current setup for Federal Primers, and install the setup for Winchester Ammo. What I noticed was with my FP trigger setup, is 90% of the time it would fire the Win Ammo with hit 2 times. So was thinking if this was the case, maybe an extended firing pin might work, along with the *Carmonizing* of a spare hammer, I am in the process of doing. I wont know unless I try.
  14. Hi, Actually I live in Singapore, but its very hard to get firearms parts here if the local shops dont stock them. Thanks for the info. Cheers ....
  15. you talking about this? http://thegunwiki.com/apps/calconversion/ Yes Sir, That was the link I was linking off. Appreciated. Cheers ....
  16. Hi All, A friend has broken the firing pin on his 686 (1986 era), so was looking at experimenting with a slightly longer firing pin, if there was such an item, rather than the standard if this was possible. I ask this as I notice with the new style hammers from S&W, you can install extended firing pins. Cheers ....
  17. I remember many years ago about 2009, a gentleman on this forum, did a interactive web based conversion page for all Dillon's presses at that time. Not sure if that resource is still up and running. Cheers ....
  18. OT slightly. I also tried Safari on my Laptop Toshiba Tecra M11, iCore 3 processor, and it also took for forever to load some forums and websites. I was already using FF but have lately switched to Palemoon which is based on FF, but I find it runs 90% faster and less memory allocation than FF does. www.palemoon.org. Cheers ....
  19. When I am shooting a AP match, and want to be consistant with my shots in the time allowed, I find that you cant afford to cock the hammer for long distant shots, as your grip and sight picture will change and then you waste precious time getting this back when its much easier to do a one smooth trigger pull and be constantly focused on the target. All my revolvers are DA which solves my problem. Cheers ....
  20. I saw some brass in Greece that I would like to know where it came from.....it's headstamp was IPSC 38SC. Lee Lee, If the brass was headstamped with IPSC 38SC, it was probably match ammo supplied by Geco Ammunition. They were the official Match Ammo suppliers for the World Shoot. Cheers ....
  21. Congrats to Tommy for winning, but I think Daniel Hornier come out of this as the biggest winner for his honesty and sportsmanship. Cheers ....
  22. Nik, I had this happen to me when I was CRO at the 2007 Nationals. Was a Super Squad competitor, screwed upon the first section of the stage, he then suddenly stopped looked at me indicating he thought he had a squib, waited for me to stop him, but I didn't, he then realised his folly, so had no choice but to carry on, racked the slide back, out popped a suspect round, continued shooting, of course he had wasted precious seconds. After inspecting the round you could visually see it was a light hammer strike, and out of curiosity my fellow RO's later on pulled the round and it had no powder in it. From my experience I have seen a lot of Competitor's do apply undue pressure on RO's, to try and get reshoots for various reasons. I knew in my own mind it wasnt a squib, so I stood my ground. The rest of the Super Squad, did thank me for standing my ground and not allowing the reshoot. Cheers ....
  23. Chuck, I am from the other side of the fence. What we use here in our region and at the last AustralAsia Level IV Match, we purchased the certified 5lb trigger weights that you can get from NRA. Over 175+ PD firearms were tested using the this weight with no problems at all with the testing procedure. No one complained and everyone knew that Trigger weight would be tested. So for the next WS at Frostproof, at least it will be 5lb for PD. Cheers ....
  24. When I was starting off with AP, many moons ago, I always had a tendency to rush my first shot especially on the Plates, so my shooting partner, whom had been to many Bianchi Cup Matches the 80's, told me *Slow Down and You Will Speed Up* That advice certainly helped, as my draw become much smoother, had a tendency to snatch and not get a good grip and first shot always always where it should be in the center of the plate. Cheers ....
  25. Thanks to all those whom posted replies. I like all idea's posted as well as the comments from everyone given me plenty to think about. In regards to welding, like everything there is the inherent risk of a weld breaking, with the right welding rods, you lessen that risk. Just looking for something easy to setup for the users on the club range. Thanks to All. Cheers ....
