Captains of Crush grippers

I just got a set for Christmas. I'm a somewhat strong guy too and I too can barely close the #1. You guys with the 2's are insane. Maybe I'll be there in a year or so :D

Just keep working it...

Well apparently I'm closer than I thought. Today was my second workout with the CoC's, and I found with the proper form I can close the #1 for a few reps. Here's my #2 in my left hand. My left/"weak" hand has my right/"strong" hand beat by 1/16" or so, they're pretty damn close.

Does anyone have a trainer or less to sell that you no longer need? I'd like to buy a used one to see where I need to begin.

When in doubt, start with the T (unless you are already into the iron game or you know you have a strong grip.) Even if you can't close it to start, it won't take long until you can.

I was going to recommend the beginner set of GNC's Pro Performance Ultimate Grips (three grippers that would more or less replicate the CoC Guide, Trainer and #1.) They used to be $20 for all three, but seems the price is now $49. At that price, I'd go with the CoC grippers.

When I started with these, I couldn't close the #1. I do rapid reps with the 'S' on my way to and from work which is about a 10 min drive. I can do 80 reps now. I try to do it 3 times a week. After about 10 months, I can do 20 reps with the #1 and there's no doubt that these have helped my shooting.

I warm up with the sport 10 reps each hand and then 10 reps each hand with #1. I need to get a #2 to work on. I use them while driving and also use the bands to exercise extensors. Bands are a very good way to eliminate tennis elbow.

My hands are pretty bad so these are a necessity for me. The 2 finger Imtugs are pretty interesting also.

My goal for 2012 is #3 five reps each hand. Will I get it? maybe but not if I don't get my A$$ in gear

#2 is on the way. Though I've been slacking over the last couple of weeks, my normal routine is to warm up with the trainer and do sets of ten or twelve with the #1 and then I will also do some long singles, 30 to 60 seconds depending on how long I can keep it closed.

I keep mine at work now and use it as an excuse to look away from the computer screen. Perfect little break from work.

I didn't know about these bands... I too have tennis elbow that gets really annoying sometimes. I'll have to try them.

I checked today and my local GNC still has the grippers for $20 for the set of 3.

just got a #1 and a trainer.

Trainer I can close 10 times with either hand, #1 probably about 4-5 times.

my previous grip things - a rubber donut and one that has articulations for each finger feel like toys now.

Well, I didn't post for fear that I cheated somehow, but on Friday I closed the #2 (:D) with my strong hand and came really close with my weak hand. I did it again today with my strong hand certification style. After starting to read the KTA program, I got my form down better - in the picture I posted above the gripper was way too low in my hand.

Came within 1/16" of closing it in my weak hand again, but unfortunately in doing so I ripped off a pencil-eraser sized chunk of my soft engineering student skin from my weak hand ring finger. Doesn't really hurt, but I'll have to tape it for workouts in the immediate future.

Goal for 2012: Close the #3 certification style with both hands :D

For light workout or to warm up for a match, the egg they sell is a great isometric.

HandMaster Plus is another great way to work up to the grippers.

I read the 2 reviews on the COC #1. One guy said that he wished he never would have ordered the trainer, because even his girlfriend could close it. So, I ordered to #1.

I can't wait to try it.

I'm officially a weak grip! I got the Sport and .5. The sport is easy- can do sets of 10 no problem. Not so with the .5s... only about 6 with my strong hand less weak hand. Damn!!

I might be scared of a girl who can do sets with a #1, its harder than some make it seem.

Well, I tried these and it didn't turn out well. I developed trigger finger problems in both hands and the only change in my activities was using these (sport, trainer and #1). I had to have injections, and, with recurring/worsening symptoms, will need to go back. I'm laying off the hand exercisers until I get seen, and will get an expert opinion on using them (the first hand surgeon, now retired, felt that the grippers were an obvious possible cause; we'll see what the second says).

I confess to going overboard with reps and sets. I really wanted something to help decrease gun movement in my hands, and not being strong, thought this would do it. I just hope I haven't really messed myself up (some people need surgery, and, at my age, even with good rehab, I might not get back the strength I had - fracking ironic, that).

Do you mean credit card close style (Ironmind) or deep set style (Mash Monsters) for that certification style?

Rules for Closing a No. 2, No. 3, No. 3.5, or No. 4

Captains of Crush Gripper

1. The gripper must be an authentic IronMind Enterprises, Inc. Captains of Crush® Gripper

2. The gripper cannot have been modified or tampered with in any way.

3. Chalk (magnesium carbonate) may be used on the gripping hand, but rosin, tacky, etc. are specifically disallowed.

4. The free hand may be used to position the gripper in the gripping hand, but the starting position can be no narrower than the width of a credit/ATM card, and the gripster must show the official that he has an acceptable starting position by using his non-gripping hand to slide the end of a credit/ATM card in between the ends of the handles. Once this is done, the official will give the signal to remove the card and begin the attempt. Any contact between the non-gripping hand and the gripper as the card is being removed will invalidate the attempt, and the non-gripping hand must stay at least a foot from the gripping hand at all times during the squeeze. Similarly, nothing may be in contact with the gripping hand or the gripping arm from the elbow down (for example, the free hand is not allowed to steady the wrist of the gripping hand or hold the spring, etc.). The entire squeeze must be clearly visible to the official: the gripper cannot be closed while blocked from view and then turned and presented as already closed.

5. The gripper must be held with the spring facing up.

6. The handles must touch completely.

Us guys with small hands have a competitive disadvantage. If I start with one side of the gripper in the meat of my palm and use a credit card, my pinky can hardly get the first knuckle on the other side of the grip. Damn it! Good things may come in small packages... but sometimes it's just annoying! LOL I think we should get a #1 handicap!

After finally deciding on the #1 for my first, it arrived today. I can close it completely about 8 times in my right hand, 5 in my left. I don't really know why I'm so excited about this piece of equipment, but I can't wait to close the #2.

Do ya'll think closing a number 3 would ever be possible without being a heavy strong dude? I barely weigh 170lbs., so I'll be happy closing a #2, but I will close that one for sure one day.

Word is Bob Vogel can close a #3 with a deep set.

Another thing in a long list that makes me hate him....
