Recommended Posts

Any update?

It's getting close , give it a couple more weeks. I am sure you will see more info shortly.

Got to talk to Aaron & the AMU guys at the SC Section Match this weekend. If you will give me a day to recover (sleep :) )

I am hoping to send out messages Monday or Tuesday.

Linda Chico (L-2035)

2009 Ft Benning 3 Gun Statstician

Sounds good Linda, I was just a little worried with it being so close to June and with a new guy at the AMU, thanks in advance for all your hard work.

Sitting with fingers poised above the keyboard to submit registration. I got the time scheduled off from work and I have the ammo set aside so that I will be able to compete. Now all I have to do is learn to count targets and then even more importantly, remember where they all are AFTER the buzzer sounds.

Did I say I am looking forward to this match?

Looking forward to the match or just more camera time Jim?

Rich

Fame is so fleeting. I need to return so my many fans won't forget me, and hey, at least I am still the same decent guy I was before I became famous.

I just sent this message to the 428 shooters on my list to notify:

This is a long message. Please read the whole message before emailing questions.

The 2009 Ft Benning 3 Gun Challenge will be December 3rd through December 6th. It is a 3 day match this year. The sign in process (to get a registration code for the application) will start June 18, 2009 at 9:30 Eastern Time (8:30 Central, 7:30 Mountain & 6:30 Pacific).

You are getting this message in advance of the posting on the internet because you were a shooter in last year's match, or you requested advance notification. Please go to http://www.fb3g.com. Select the yellow button on the left that says "Application." You will NOT immediately see the application, but rather a 'Sign in' screen.

Before June 18th, feel free to fill out the information and click the submit button. You will get a "form letter" email message from me within 24 hours. Click all the buttons, check out the forms. I will clear any information at 8:30 pm June 18th, so you can practice up until then, signing in on the forms.

You may sign-in yourself & one other person. That other person can sign-in himself & you. You can get shooting buddies to sign you in. You can have your child sign you in. There is no rule that you have to do it personally. Only the first sign-in will count, but it doesn't hurt to submit from more than one computer.

Note that I will not accept any official sign-in on the on-line list before 9:30 PM EST on June 18, 2009. There will be an official clock on the page. Don't hit the submit button on June 18th before 9:30:00 on the clock. This advance notice lets you look over the information early, get familiar with the process, print the application early, write your check & be ready to get it in the mail once you get a registration code.

In 2008, the system experienced a serious slow-down because people clicked the “Submit” button multiple times. The information is saved “on click” and not when the second page appears. To attempt to minimize the delay, we have a new website host service. We removed all images and graphics from the second page so that it will load faster. However, due to the large volume that I expect at sign in, we still will experience a slow down.

Last year, the delay was worse when some shooters clicked the submit button multiple times in panic. One shooter had 35 entries in one second. This will slow it down for everyone. In the spreadsheet I download, it will include an IP address for your computer. Anyone who submits multiple entries (same name and same computer) within ten seconds will be penalized one place on the list for each extra entry. The shooter I mentioned above would have moved down 34 places. She would not have been penalized for entries made on a different computer.

I will not accept applications without a code. I will email you a code after you successfully submit the information to me after 9:30 PM June 18th.

"We DO NOT need applications in the same envelope" is on the application & I mean that. Do Not wait until you have all your friends together. First, get into the match. Then send me your squad requests (by email, by phone, scribbled in the margin of the application, on a post it note, etc). I will honor your squadding requests.

Please, No Priority, Overnight or Express Mail Services. As it says on the application: "Linda will return your check." I mean that, also.

If you are not sure yet if you can get the time off from work or other obligations, submit your information & go through the process. Last year, everyone who withdrew from the match got a full refund of match fees. Period. (even the shooters who had to withdraw the day before the match) You will lose nothing by sending in the application & check. If you do not get into the match, I will shred the check. If you need to drop off the waiting list, I will shred the check. Delaying to get your airline tickets or arrange other travel plans could mean you are not in the match.

If you are assuming you will be a sponsored shooter, you STILL need to sign-in. We had a few shooters who figured this out the hard way last year. We rarely have enough sponsor slots for all the potential sponsored shooters. The sponsored shooters will come from the original list. Typically, the sponsor agreements are reached later in the summer. I will happily refund the entire match fee once we verify your status with your sponsors.

If you "won" a free slot in the match, please sign in - although you can wait until June 19th or later. There is no hurry, because your slot is guaranteed. Instead of a Zip code, write "Free" in that blank. I have the names of the 4 shooters who won in the drawing during the Team Competition at the 2008 Ft Benning 3 Gun match. If you picked up a free slot from a prize table at another match, send your 'certificate' with your application instead of a check.

Please email if you have any questions to my off forum email: LChico@msn.com.

I have stocked up on dark roast coffee & dark chocolate truffles. :D

Maybe I missed it in the other 4 pages of this thread....

How many shooters are allowed in the match? What's the match fee?

The answers to both those questions are on the application. The match fee is $190 & while we will have about 250 shooters, the sign in will award slots to the first 170 paid shooters.

The remaining shooters are sponsored, match staff & active duty military. Active duty shooters still pay the entry fee. I just need to save them slots, because we give preference to Active duty shooters (or activated reservists or guardsmen) who are deployed out of the country at the time of sign in. It's a bit harder to get to a computer in some parts of Iraq & Afghanistan, plus the time zone issues.

The match fee increased $15 this year (from the $175 last year). Since it is now a 3 day match, we need to cover hotel rooms & food at the range for the match staff an additional day.

OK with me to make it a 5 day match, $300 entry and 15 stages especially if a stage starts with firing one of the tank cannons! Seriously, no where and I mean NO WHERE do you get as much for your money as you get at this match! If there is anything I do not like about this match it is that we just get to do it once a year.

I imagine that there may well be server floods at 9:30 PM on the 18th. 1slots available for about 17,500 Multi-gun shooters.

I know where I will be that evening!

Thanks Linda.

(What type of flowers, chocolates, or libations do you prefer? Or are we talking Maserati?)

Dearest Jim:

Perhaps you have not met my friend and partner in crime, Linda :surprise: In the world of "Linda-isms", there IS only one kind of chocolate...Harry & David-any dark truffle/espresso variety will do. (she is not too fond of the milk or white chocolate varieties) Libations: Tia Maria and she generally loves a good DARK roasted coffee AND as for flowers-forget them-computer parts are the way to her heart! :D

Sndra - Did you get my RO e-mail?

Rich

I did! All my ducks have responded to me. I will tell you that all responded within 5 days of me sending out my e-mail...This is the first year I did not have to send 2nd request nor sit at home on a Friday night making calls!

Can't wait to see everyone.

Hello all, just a quick note on the progress, the theme has been set, it is BAD AZZ! A few key stages are drawn, this match will be nothing short of amazing! This year is of 5th (and final?) so we are going to do something VERY special, something that has NEVER been done in the history of modern multi-gun. You do not want to miss this match. Stay tuned, more to follow, with luck by Monday!

Let's hope SFC Hampton gets a Blackhawk on loan. :D Heck...if they can do it at Benning for the Sniper Challenge...why not for us. It'll be good to get in to my air frame and not be crewing it or working on a patient in the back. Heck...at least this time I can enjoy shooting from it. :)
