vluc
Stripped the set screw in my Sevigny rear sight and can't get it out. Not on the gun anymore, but I would like to be able to use the sight again! Any tips on getting it out? Edited February 4, 2009 by vluc
Merlin Orr
Drill it. Next time take the set screw and heat it cherry and drop it in oil. Screw will be harder than the allen wrench and not strip......
Graham Smith
I don't know if this would work here or not as the screw is quite small, but sometimes you can come at the underside of a bolt with a drill bit. When the bit catches, it will unscrew the bolt.
Matt Cheely
Sometimes you can rotate it out with a really small punch/chisel, just small taps and see if it will move.
Chills1994
If it takes a hexagonal shaped allen key...err... wrench... then you might be able to get a "Torx" (it's a star shaped wrench) to fit in there. With it's sharper corners it might actually be able to dig in there and grab the screw.
racerba
Sears sells a bolt/screw remover. It looks like a reversed drill bit. Yes, they come that small. Edited February 4, 2009 by racerba
Toolguy
A left hand twist drill bit or the bolt/screw remover mentioned above is what I would try.
Aircooled6racer
Hello: Since it is not installed anymore just drill it out. Someone used Red Loktite I'll bet on that screw. You have to heat up red and just use mechanical tools to remove Blue. Thanks, Eric
HSMITH
Even if it is locked with red loctite you only need to bring it to about 400* to break it, it will start to smoke a tiny bit and you will smell it when it breaks, then you should be able to unscrew it with a fresh allen wrench using a little side pressure on it while turning. bwit
Good advice, Howard. I haven't tried this but it is along the lines of a prior suggestion and thought next time one "gets" me I'd try it. Use one of those left hand thread screw removers. For the broken screw you normally drill a hole in what's left, tap this lefty in and wrench it out. Here I was thinking you could just tap it in and wrench it out. Sears and elsewhere has these in sets. Good luck, you'll probably need it.
vluc
Good luck, you'll probably need it. LOL! Probably easier to just buy another rear sight!
