ErikW
Here's a home-brew recoil spring tester, with some interesting commentary. http://www.realguns.com/Commentary/comar16.htm If Wolff tolerances are within .5#, that's good enough for me not to build my own tester. Nolan
Erik, That's fine for NEW recoil springs, but what about after 500 rounds, 2000 rounds, 2001 rounds? How do you know when to replace the recoil spring? After it gives up enough to start causing malfunctions?
Loves2Shoot
hhhmmm. Good question Nolan. I change it when I can feel the slide speed change. The gun shoots different when a spring is ready to be retired. This usually takes a year or two. I do have a "special" spring that I use for matches, it should last me a decade or so. TONY BARONE
IF YOU WANT A SPRING THAT IS WHAT IT STATES ON THE PACKAGE TRY DAWSON SPRINGS. I DONT KNOW WHO MAKES THEM BUT THEY ARE ON THE MONEY.
Singlestack
Tony, Please turn your caps lock off when posting. It is considered "shouting" when you use caps on a forum and, even though we are all shooters and our hearing might not be that great, we all can read. Philip Dedmon
I have one of the SDM Fabricating Recoil Spring Testers. Got it from Brownells. It works great. It is on page 133 of the #55 catalog. The item # is 864-100-000.
