You sure about that? When I read the description on the Hogue and TK custom extended release, it says only for k,L,N,X frames

Well no, now I’m not so sure now that you mention it. Off to the safe I go…

Well I just stuck a Hogue long onto a current 442 and it seemed to work ok.

I think I have a few Hogue’s and TK’s kicking around if you want me to try them on any particular guns? Or I could send you one to try before you buy? Any shops or locals guys to you might have one you could text fit?

I actually have couple Hogue on N frames and didn’t bother to try it on the J frame. I’m going to give it a try . Thanks

The nub (or that ever it's called) on j frame release is slightly smaller than the K L M frames and bind a bit but can be fitted to work with a bit of filing and polishing

Thanks, I’ll give that a try

Yup, what fishhunter3 said, the oval window in the frame is about .01 narrower and the nose of the new release (part towards the recoil shield) will need to be trimmed back a bit.

I just tried to put a new one on my 642 and that's what I see I'd have to do to make it work.

Is this for carry or bug gun matches ??

Below are the 2 part numbers for the 2 sizes from Brownells.

I never looked at making my releases fit the J frame, didn't think there would be much of a market for them.

I will be making some new releases in the next couple of months (winter stock up) and I'll look at a J frame sized

unit that will fit IDPA rules, I'll let you know.
