Looking to Relocate

Recommended Posts

My wife and I both shoot steel challenge, our retirement hobby as it were, and although we're otherwise happy in Idaho steel challenge matches are sparse consisting of primarily twice/week 4 stage ad hoc squadding matches on weekday afternoons.  We moved from California where with travel we could shoot 3-4 monthly 8-stage matches.

Looking for recommendations of a metro area where we might be able to shoot 3 real matches/month within 3-4 hours travel for the better part of a year.  We're not fair weather shooters since we practice year round in Idaho.  State needs to be gun friendly (CC, SBR, suppressor, etc.).  Most any area we could find a place for ourselves and our 3 retired horses.  I realize a similar request for USPSA matches would be an easier ask, but I thought it worth a shot to see what folks might come up with.

East Alabama

you can shoot matches around Atlanta, Montgomery, Columbus Ga, Florida( 3 to 4 hours away), Birmingham al. Probable North Alabama as well. Should be no problem locating some land to buy for horses but you may have to improve it . Property tax lowest in nation I think . Google steel matches to be sure there are enough for you. We like conservative gun people.

indeed it would. You are already in an optimal area for uspsa, with 6-7 matches/month within 2 hrs.

for sure it seems like many places back east they shoot a LOT more steel challenge. Good luck in your journey.

Doesn't almost everyone end up in the Phoenix valley eventually? I'm not sure what the price of horse properties would be - they'd probably be most available in the SW, SE, or NW parts of town.

5 stages on 2nd Saturdays about 2hr NW - https://yavapairecreationleague.net/

4 stages on 3rd Tuesdays and 5th Saturdays on the Southern edge of the valley - https://phoenixrodandgun.org/practical/practical-schedule

8 stages on 3rd Sundays on north end of town - https://www.cactusmatch.com/matches , or

5-6 stages on 3rd Sundays about 2hr SE of the valley - https://pimapistolclub.com/steel-challenge/ (both are in the morning and conflict)

4 stages on 4th Sundays at the east end of town - https://rsscaz.com/divisions/practical-pistol

And then Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday every week there's non-challenge steel somewhere in the valley.

Non-challenge steel 1st Sundays 2hr SE of the valley at Pima Pistol Club too.
