Gennady-Kh
Want to try green instead of red fiber rod. Wonder how it can be installed correctly. I can melt one rod end to the ball shape, cut appropriate length, insert into front sight and melt again other end. Thinking to make closest rod end as flat as possible for bigger output fiber area. Probably can use soldering pencil with polished tip, this way rod's surface will be more like a flat mirror instead of ball shape. Any ideas? Sarge
I always just melted with a lighter and then smooshed it a little with the side of a screwdriver blade

zzt
Another trick is to put a thin strip of Aluminum foil, shiny side up, under the rod before you melt it. The foil reflects light and makes the dot brighter.

grapemeister
Fingernail clippers work great for a nice precision cut. Don't make the ends too small or your fiber will come out after a number of shots, usually in the middle of shooting a stage.

laz2011
If you worried about using a lighter and you have a soldering iron u can use that to install the fiber optic also.
