Middle Man
Just cleaning up some files here at the office and found these from last year's fishing trip with the S&W rep when the 500 was new. And no, I did not see the sights lift... Edited October 6, 2005 by Middle Man
BEDELLCUSTOM
i've got a video of Paul Whitacre shootin' my 500 when he was in New York about a month ago, i think he's still flinchin' from the recoil. i'll try to post it if i can. if anyone can post the video i'll send it to them. here's some pics for those who haven't seen one of these cannons. my favorite huntin' load, a Barnes XPB 325gr HP w/44gr of H-110 behind it. . the little one on the right is a 9mm. Cameron
I fired 2 rounds from the "snub nose" version, with 425 gr Corbon ammo. That is the first gun that actually sent my hands above my head! Still hurts just thinking about it.
PaulW
I can't even remember what it, ummm, what was I sayin? That hand cannon umm, hurt, what? Damn I think the bus is here, crap the short one again. Well I best be talkin without the ringin from that POS cannon that explodes them there bowling pins real good. And yes I really have no idea what the hell I am doin or sayin. What?
BEDELLCUSTOM
that dumbass hick,PW, is more shellshocked from the whole experience than i thought. i actually call that gun my "whitetail tranquilizer" cuz it puts em' right to sleep, PERMENANTLY! Middle Man
Yeah, the 4" comp gun with Hornady 350gr ammo makes a great flame thrower too! What a hoot that was...shoot a cylinder's worth from the 4" 500 then go pick up the Ruger rep's Super Alaskan 454 and empty it as fast as you can. After the 500, the 454 felt like a 38 Special. TMC
Dan, any chance of making an effective comp for that thing? I'd buy one but a guy at the range had a divit in his forehead from his. After showing me the scar he asked "do you want to try it?" Yeah...right
BEDELLCUSTOM
as soon as i get some free time i am gonna pull the barrel off mine and design a better comp for it. the little factory thing on the end that they call a comp doesn't do shit. the recoil really isn't that bad, i'm used to it now but for the first timers it is a bit much. the first day i got mine i shot 30 rounds of the factory hornady 350gr XTP ammo and it split the skin open in the web of my hand. once you establish a real grip on the gun it aint so bad. it is the most effective revolver i have ever used for hunting and there is no doubt who's shooting when you touch one off out in the woods, everytime i shoot it when hunting i'll get a call on the radio from on of my buddies asking me if i just took a shot, it has a sound all it's own. as for the guy that got wacked in the forehead, you might want to tell him to wear a helmet when shooting or spend a little more time in the bathroom working on his gripping technique. That guy was shooting a single action so the gun would ride up in his hand, no raised area like a smith to help hold it down. He also cut the trigger guard off because he said the front strap almost broke his finger the first couple of shots.

BEDELLCUSTOM
if it was a single action 500 it was probably the magnum research BFR in 500 S&W.
johnhurd
Here ya go ya big brave guys 14 YO grl shooting a 50BMG, that really trumps yer 50 S&W Edited October 7, 2005 by johnhurd
SRT Driver
I put two rounds through a 30.06 Lone Eagle then called it quits. 454 Casull was pretty nasty too. Some local guy has a 45-70 Revo and a 50 bmg pistol that looks like a sawed off shotgun. I left the range when I saw him put on a motor cycle helmet. If you need that much in a pistol, why not use a rifle?

Kingman
I want one of those .460 from the performance cente with the 7.5" bbl. The comp looks a little more effective, and realistically the gun does not cost that much more. Or a BFR in .460 would be a cool big brother to my .454 I don't really think the recoil from my .454 is too severe, and its a single action BFR. DA every shot, and after the first one goes off - with a good, loud, side ported comp - you'll explode the pins on your table and knock down everyone else's too! Dan Burwell
Here is a video of a 700gr bullet traveling about 1100fps into a Big log. The log was about 30 in long and 10-12 in in diameter (heavy log) no problem taking it right off the wall. 500 mag Vs Log In these two we are shooting some of those 5 gallon jugs you by your oil for turkey frying in. I fill them up with water then pull the trigger, easy enjoyable to water the lawn. 500mag- 275gr Barnes X traveling about 2100fps Vs 5 gallons of water 500mag- 350gr Hornady Vs 5 gallons of water Dan
