Broncman
Anyone done it? Thinking about mapping one out and giving it a try.
38super
Billet or 80%? Limited 10's quality is very good.
Broncman
Billet from bar stock etc. L10 is pricey for their 80%.
zzt
I have a friend who built his own 2011 frame, because he said the commercially available frames were not good enough. This was before Phoenix Trinity and JEM guns, etc. He also said he would NEVER do it again. BTW, if you are going to do this from billet, pay attention to the grain. ACree
Broncman, I assume you have access to CNC?
Broncman
Not yet. Working on a cnc conversion. Just starting to think about a DIY frame, I love doing all my own stuff. All manual mill right now. Takes a lot of concentration and a good plan! Edited July 21, 2018 by Broncman
ACree
Gotcha. That would be a LOT of work on a manual with a ton of tooling. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk
Broncman
Been taking inventory and I believe I have most of the tooling. Need to order a keysert cutter for the rails, and maybe a reamer or two. If I start I will post up .
schaet
Broncman, I know this off topic, but I'm curious about your mill conversion. the reason I ask is the I am doing the same.
Broncman
CNC will be further down the road. Kinda pricey and I can buy a lot of pistol parts first! I am installing a Precision Matthews DRO. That way recalls and tool offsets will be easier than pure manual and a notebook. Getting a bar of 4140 annealed from McMaster Carr to start with . schaet
Ahh, very cool. I have a Precision Mathews PM30 on it's way that I'm converting. The DRO will be a huge help! Good luck. If you go forward with it I'd interested in following your progression.
