jschweg
Hey folks. I managed to score a 4lb jug of W231 locally and was wondering if this powder is too fast for 147gn 9mm. I currently shoot 125gn but wanted to consider moving up to the 147s for the benefit of lighter recoil. I don't really see any published 147 loads in my books, so wondering if this isn't a very good combination. Specifically this would be for the Missouri Bullet cast 147s. jschweg
http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=113540&hl=I have no idea how I missed that, thank you.I can probably use some of the plated loads mentioned as my baseline. jschweg
I didn't find too much data for coated cast bullets (plenty for jacketed). Judging by what I did find it seems starting at 3.3 grains should do the trick? Anyone have a recommendation for cast 147s and 231? rdinga
I found some very accurate loads using 231 and 147's. While I prefer WSF with 147's, 231 and WST work perfectly
Ck867
3.2-3.4 gr of W231 with 147 gr bullet depending on gun.
Dr. Phil
I shot a lot of Bayou 147s @ 3.4gr in a 6" Storm Lake bbl. Accurate and very soft. Good luck with your search...
Solvability
3.3g w231 to 3.5g with lead or poly coated lead. 3.5g for Plated lead - works for me
l79flight327
My 4inch XD barrel likes 3.5 gr 231 under an extreme 147g seated to 1.150. Accurate to 50 feet traveling about 850 fps.
jschweg
Cool. I think I'll start with 3.2gr, see how that chronos and then work up from there. Thanks for the examples folks. Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk
BlaineD
My Grand Power shoots fast. I'm getting 850fps with 2.8 grains at 1.150 with a 147 Blue Bullet. I just went to 1.140 to see if I can't gain just a little. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Edited August 5, 2016 by BlaineD
MemphisMechanic
WST is hilariously soft behind a 147. 231 a bit snappier but shoots just fine.
