9x45
No more powder hopper shifting linkage and no more clunking....Just like the original 550, smooth and quite.
splashdown
I've got the springs on mine too. That's the way I received it when I bought it used 10 years ago.
LilBunniFuFu
I have done a pseudo retro mod on all of my hoppers on my 650. Only because I still have the old single bend bar on it. So much better than the clunky clack of the new style.
9x45
splashdown, I think all the SD's came with shifter linkage, someone must have changed it over before you got it. Mine is 16 years old.
JLarsson
Is Dillon the only source for those springs or has someone found another?
Steve RA
Any well equipped hardware store or department should have a pretty decent spring selection. If so, you should be able to find a good substitute or perhaps an identical one.
ChuckS
Do a search for "fartknocker". More discussion. Dillon has the springs. I use one as it makes the press run eaiser. I have the failsafe rod as a backup.
jmorris
30 years or so ago Dillon's came with the black crank on the right held with pliers. I sent one in for reverb some years later and it came back with the fail safe setup on the left. A phone call later and they sent me an extra set for my other SD (why I still have one of the originals). The clunkedy clunk version is the one they use now. I am around a bunch of loud annoying stuff often so it doesn't bother me, beats the hell out of that "Let it go" Frozen song... So no fail safe rods originally, no low primer alarm and no guide for the primer slide. That also switch from plastic link arm bushings to bronze at some point. They are sized by outside diameter, wire size and length to the inside of the hooks. Dillon's is .125" OD and 5.080" length. They will send you a couple for free. scottrallye
Fun fact: A few rubber bands work perfectly. Might need to replace them every thousand rounds or so, and unhook them when not in use. Works like a charm. Just make sure to zip tie the linkage plates together (snugly, not tight) and you're set. jmorris
Yep, rubber bands and springs work well until they don't. Thats why the rod and other changes were invented, they certainly didn't come about to save money.
