When it rains

I have not had to shoot a 3 gun match in the rain yet, but I suspect that some day I will. What, if anything, do you do to protect your rifle and riflescope?

Any tips on how to have a successful match when it rains? Thanks.

I'd worry more about scope than gun if it were me.

Shower cap on scope maybe?

Vortex sells a scope coat that sits on my scope when I'm not shooting stages. Keeps rain and dust off the lenses. If it's currently raining, I might lay it across the rear lense to cover it until I grab the gun.

Regular sandwich bags (not ziplok) with rubber bands. They rip off fast and keep lenses dry.

I have a poncho to cover my buggy and all equipment.

+1 for the poncho. Shot a bunch of matches in the rain. Found out that muzzle brakes trap a lot of water and throw POI off.

Scope shower cap when I used to live in Washington! Some rain on the rifle shouldn't matter unless you are dropping it in the mud. Then maybe switch to an AK for 3 gun

I just let the rain hit it. Ill case it when I can of course.

When staging, if the rifle is staged muzzle down ill put an empty shotgun shell box over the back of the scope, or a sandwich bag I can peel off when I pick the rifle up. Just to keep water from pooling on the lense.

if there is really a downpour a baggie on the muzzle is not a bad idea. Water down the bore is not a good thing. water on the scope does not help at all. A scope coat or baggie on the scope is not a bad idea either even if you are starting with the rifle. I keep the muzzle down and cover the rear of the scope as best as i can and remove before i shoot.
