JordanGriffith
Do you guys all run forward assists? I was considering building my dedicated 3G upper without one to save a little bit of weight? Any opinions?
EaZeNuTZ33
I have one because it's on the gun, but I don't think I've tried to use one for anything but a press check to make sure the bolt was seated when charging the gun at make ready. If the gun is properly maintained and oiled, I doubt you'd ever miss it.
Garmil
Ive used one without and didn't miss it. Slickside with no assist door or shell deflector. Make sure to check weights some companies receivers without don't weight any less.
EaZeNuTZ33
Agree......if you're doing it for weight savings, you aren't saving enough to worry about.
Garmil
The palmetto version is a decent amount lighter than standard.
JordanGriffith
It's a little weight, little money savings, and something I've never used, so why not get rid of it was my opinion. Plus, if I need to force my bolt to lock, something is possibly wrong, and it becomes a safety hazards to force it and keep firing
Hoosiershooter
One thing to consider, if you're running low mass carriers most don't have cuts to support a forward assist. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
JordanGriffith
I plan on running a lmbcg
thermobollocks
I use mine frequently both for press checking and the occasional malfunction. SPORTS: Not just a weekend activity.
Amerflyer48
could always stick an "AR gas vent" in there instead of a non functional FA since you are thinking of running a lmbcg
mike_pinto
I like having it, just in case. My LM BCG's have forward assist though (Iron City). If you aren't losing anything by having it, why not?
ShooterSteve
If you read Kyle Lamb's book, you won't press check anymore. Just setting yourself up for a failure in the future.
JordanGriffith
There's a difference between being in combat and shooting a local three gun match. I'll risk forcing a round in when my life is on the line.
JordanGriffith
Kyle Lamb also said "Id feel naked without it, even though I never use it"
ShooterSteve
My comment is simply about press checking. Sooner or later you are going to press check, and your bolt won't go back into battery, and with your mind on the stage, you won't notice it and you will forget to use the f/a. When the buzzer sounds the silence from your rifle will be bad.
JordanGriffith
Well I ended up getting a standard upper. Could pass up the deal.
ShooterSteve
Nothing wrong at all with a standard upper. Build it like crazy and shoot the fool out of it.
JordanGriffith
Haha yup. Now the important part, finding a trigger and barrel
alhovde19
My JP-15 has a lmbc with no forward assist serrations, yet the rifle still comes with a forward assist. Go figure [emoji16] . Still, I love that classic look, which is why I chose the JP-15 over a PSC-11.

JordanGriffith
I was looking into that Mark, maybe I'll do that when I order my barrel from you
IntenseImage
I plug the FA holes.Would you take the time to swap a FA to a plug if you didn't start w a stripped upper? I'm leaning towards no since I can't imagine there is any real benefit and if building from a stripped its more or less not putting in something that would be of no use
MarkCO
Probably would not remove one if it was already there.
alhovde19
Wish I could afford a JP right now!Hey I spent all five years of college saving for mine! I put away 40 bucks a month in a savings acct. And the beauty is now that I am graduated and working, I can actually afford to shoot it.Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
