Religious Shooter
Has anybody tried loading up a 300 win mag to 308 power levels? What powder did you try? What bullet? What primer? Etc? What was the accuracy like? Thanks.
GrumpyOne
You would be loading down, not up...
Religious Shooter
From where I come from when we load anything we say "load up". As in: "I loaded up 300 rounds of 9MM yesterday." "How many rounds do you load up per session?" We don't say "I loaded down 300 rounds of 9MM yesterday" or "How many rounds do you load down per session?" GrumpyOne
If you are making rounds not as powerful as the parent cartridge, you are loading down (that particular loading). So, you may be loading up some loaded down rounds of 300 Win Mag. "Has anybody tried loading up a 300 win mag to 308 power levels?" Implies that the 300 Win mag is not as powerful as the 308. But, it's all semantics...

Steve RA
Probably work out better than loading a .308 "up" to 300 Win Mag power levels. I used to load my 300 H&H down quite a bit for target shooting at a club that had a little offhand match @ 100yds. Worked quite well and was more pleasant to shoot. Hi-Power Jack
I used to load my 30-06 to 30-30 levels, with a 150 grain bullet designed for the 30-30. That was a nice load to shoot, very accurate, and dynamite on deer - the bullet would NOT exit even small NY whitetail.
