SHARPPOINT
For three to four years now i have been shooting 115gr Montana Gold FMJ over 4.3gr of TiteGroup. I just bought 4000 of the X-tream 115gr CMJ. My question, will there be powder change need? The only difference in the bullets is no exposed lead on the back. Thanks in advance, T
superdude
You'll have to try it to find out. Plated and jacket tend to run similar velocities with the same load. You might find this useful: http://38super.net/Pages/How%20Fast.html
Hi-Power Jack
Should be the same. But, safer to check. Might also confirm the weight of each bullet, one could be little heavier than the other. Edited January 29, 2015 by Hi-Power Jack
9x45
The developed friction is between the OD of the bullet and the barrel ID. The base doesn't matter. Plated bullets have less resistance than copper jackets.
noylj
The only difference would be the exposed lead on the bottom and the exact geometry of the bullet and the thinner, and therefore softer, plating and, maybe, the exact diameter of the bullet. Any time you change a bullet, there will be some change in avg. velocity and SD. Load work-up is always required, if you want to know what you are getting. Plated bullets normally are only to be loaded up to mid-range jacketed loads and normally it is best to use lead bullet data.
Dirty Rod
I shoot those same MG and occasionally those same Xtreme when I can't find MG or Berrys and I load them the same. As mentioned, there are slight differences in velocity but it's minimal and doesn't affect the performance.
