rodcord
I'm new to shooting and would like to know the forum experience and recommendation for rifle muzzle break, compensator or flash hider or a combination of the three. I'm thinking to get to a 3 gun local match with my MP15 Sport with box standard muzzle break. Any thoughts? recommendations? do & dont's?
Hi-Power Jack
Welcome to the Forum. Lots of discussion here on the subject of The Best comp for 5.56mm rifles - No one agrees on which is The Best, but most people feel you can't go too far wrong with the Miculek for $35-$50. Leading experts on this panel seem to be PEKelly & Marko in regards to rifle comps. They'll probably be along after the sun comes up to clear this all up for you. There is a current posting entitled "VG6 Precision Epsilon Comp" which provides some comparative testing of comps conducted by P.E. Kelly a few years ago - lots of great info right there. p.s. When you decide to add a scope - lots of great reading here also - all comes down to how much money you want to throw at the scope and how far you'll be shooting. Gadela08
your standard a2 flash hider that comes stock will do just fine on your M&P15 sport for your first few matches. but Unless you're shooting at night alot, you'll find that there are more useful muzzle devices for 3-gun rather than flash hiders. there are alot of options in the world of Muzzle Breaks and Compensators. you'll find that the most basic designs are probably the most effective. but alot of people get obsessed with the way their gun looks and therefore overspend on a cool-looking compensator that is no more effective than a cheaper one. i have to give another +1 for the miculek compensator for an effective design at an affordable price. txolds442
For the money, the miculek comp is pretty solid. Down here, the Benny Hill Rolling Thunder pretty much donimates. Some folks run others like the SJC Titan and JP brakes.
Graham Smith
Flash hiders are largely cosmetic unless you are in a fire fight. Breaks and compensator are different words for the same thing. Search the rifle section on the word "break" and you will find numerous discussions.

g mac
SJC titan works really good in taming the recoil, but very loud, and kinda long. Follow-up shots is easy with this break. Check out the video in YouTube
Steve RA
The Carbon Arms works well and is pretty light weight compared to some.
TonytheTiger
If your referring to the Gas Hog then I'll agree with you Steve. I haven't shot enough other brakes to be able to do an honest comparison to the other popular brakes but I can say it is without a doubt the least concussive brake I've ever been behind or next to. Steve RA
I think the one I have is the DR brake. Dynamic Resistance. http://www.carbonarms.us/AR-15-Uppers-and-Parts/
