opensol
This is my first experience reloading. I just finished loading about 40 rounds of 9mm Bayou Bullets, 135 gr, 3.5 N320, OAL 1.35 ~ .05 on a Dillon 650. Got back from shooting them. Everything worked fine with the exception of one FTF and one primer that didn't ignite. I can take care of that. However, I realized that my target was ragged at point of impact like if the bullet was tumbling towards the target, not a perfect hole. Any suggestions? GrumpyOne
Overcrimping the bullets.
opensol
Thanks GrumpyOne!!! Excuse my ignorance, could you elaborate?
Steve RA
If they are round nose bullets the entry hole will be a lot more ragged than if using SWCs. If you have many that are tumbling, there will be some that will hit sideways and that is definite proof they are tumbling.
Hi-Power Jack
Fire a few thru cardboard instead of paper target - be easier to see if bullets are tumbling. If you "crimp" too much, that can cause tumbling - pull one and see if there's a deep mark on the bullet where the case mouth was - that's overcrimping ... That will usually also lead to poor accuracy. Did you figure out why the one cartridge didn't feed?
Brassaholic13
I agree with Jack. Before you determine if it's tumbling, make sure you're either firing at heavy target paper or cardboard. If you're using standard printer weight paper with no backer, it's not going to be definitive.
opensol
Thanks to all for your replies and suggestions. I guess I have some homework for this weekend.
MrDanCheck
I would check your OAL as well. 1.350 wouldn't fit in my mag. My OAL is 1.125.
opensol
I apologize for the misinformation. I meant to say OAL is 1.135.

opensol
So I went back and re-calibrated the dies. Crimping is now set at .378, OAL is 1.135, Powder charge is 3.5 of N320. All systems are go!! With 135 gr Bayou Bullets I'm getting PF= 130, with 147 gr Bayou Bullets I'm getting PF=140. Holes are nice and round. Not touching it. On to 45 ACP!! Thanks to all.
