krazykj03
Hi guys I have a SDB with 9mm, 550 for 45 acp and a 650 for 9mm. I am getting a limted 40sw and wanting to shoot 9 major. What machines should I use for what. My ideas was buy die set of 45acp for the SDB. 550 set up for 9mm major buying a set of caliber conversion and dies and tool head. 650 set that up for 40sw and buying everything to set up for 40sw. Someone's told me to set up 9's on the 550 especially if I want to do major cause of powder spilling and just a lot of powder in a smaller case. Or should I just buy a set of caliber conversion of 40sw for the 650 and leave everything else the way it is. And less stuff for me to buy and save money. Hehehe. Let me know what ideas you guys have. I would greatly appreciate it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
lee blackman
If your worried about powder spillage, spend the $35 on a bearing kit. Either way a 550 will spin-toss powder just like the 650 will when your cranking rounds. I wouldn't even let that be a factor.
Hi-Power Jack
Depends, partially, on how many rounds of each caliber you reload each month or year. If you reload 9mm major and .40 major, there is some advantage to using special dies for resizing - you can't do that with the SDB. Sounds like you'll be loading: 9mm minor 9mm major .40 major .45?? And you have three reloaders? Sounds like you're experience enough to determine whether you'd like to buy new dies and which reloader you prefer - takes time to break down and change a caliber - Best to have a 4th machine (one for each caliber), BUT obviously not necessary - I reload 2 calibers on a SDB. krazykj03
I just got these because of a good deal. But I'm not experienced. What would you guys do? The 650 has the upgrade of the ball bearing and spring when indexing. I was thinking I would do the 650 and get the caliber conversion for it because I already have it setup for the 9mm and I don't have to change out the primer setup cause it would be small primer already. I just didn't know if people who shoot open what press they use? I know I can't afford the 1050. I'll stick with what I have and build on it. LilBunniFuFu
How many rounds of which calibres do you plan on loading a month should help in this discussion.

Flatland Shooter
On the 550, are you loading 45 ACP with large or small primers? Large primers are more common in 45, but there is cases that use small primers. As a long time 550 user, I know that switching between the large and small primer arm is a PITA. But if you can stick with small primers, the switch between 9mm and 45 ACP takes all of 30 seconds. Bill

Amazing at times what changing one letter in one word can change the whole sentence.
