ramairthree
I would appreciate some advice from old school Beretta shooters please. I shot a 92 in the 90s thinking I was shooting major because I had a 9x21 barrel with a comp and factory Fiochhi 9 x21 ammo. I did not have a chrono and there was not one at any of the matches I went to.Now we have the Internet, etc. and my remainder of that ammo show me a not major PF when I chrono it.I would like to use a frame railed Beretta to make a limited 10 gun. I can use my 9x21 barrel or my 9x19 barrel, they are both threaded. Without the comp and with the sigts I can shoot limited 10. I have a mag well to put on, the extended mag release, etc. Then, using a frame rail mount I can put on a red dot and my comp and have an open gun.So I have a ton of questions.max OAL to run in a beretta mag, and probably a flat nose design best? I have zero issues with 1.150 in my Berettas and Glocks.Just use 9x19, or use my 9x21? No capacity difference but the extra case grip on the bullet when loading long.Ramshot silhouette? I am pretty sure I don't want Bullseye? I will roll my own load data of course but some good tarting advice in a non 1911 length load will be much appreciated. My biggest Beretta mags are the mec gar 20s. The factory beretta 20s are much longer. Is there a Beretta mag/spring combo for the open lengths sorted out?Is there a known frame rail mount that functions with a Beretta 92? I have no reason for wanting to use a Beretta in Production, Limited 10, and Open that would sound reasonable or make sense. I just want to.And I assume I will need to heat up my own kydex for a frame rail mount Beretta holster.I could just use a 40, but it is my understanding that the Beretta 9 mm based frame and mag width would, even with making custom magazines to max length, always be a significant capacity issue in Open.Anyways, I would greatly appreciate your experiences and information.I can no longer find the threaded hammer caps for the EGW Beretta mag well extensions, and will make one or try some JB weld. kneelingatlas
First off, I'm dying to see pictures of the beast Second, if you have both 9x19 and 9x21 barrels, I would stick to 9x19 since the mags are limiting your OAL, not the brass. I've never loaded for a Beretta, but I do have small frame CZ/EAA Open guns which don't have issues in the mags until 1.18" with RN bullets (FP might be a little shorter). What weight bullets will you be shooting? I shoot mostly 115s.
B45C22
And I assume I will need to heat up my own kused for a frame rail mount Beretta. WTF does these sentence even mean?

bikerburgess
I bet it is auto correct for Kydex
bikerburgess
one thing to remember is no matter how hot you load for L10 you will be shooting minor. I don't have any direct experience with them but I have heard that Berettas do not hold up well to major power loads. I would forget about 9x21 it was just used as a work around for the rule against major 9mm back in the day, it is identical to the 9x19 in case capacity (at same OAL) so it just costs more and is no fun for you or your friends when it gets mixed into either their 9mm or their 38super when reloading. ericjhuber
First off, I'm dying to see pictures of the beast What he said. No disrespect, but you're not allowed to create a post with the title "old school Beretta open gun" without posting pictures. It's a rule. No need to look it up. Trust us. 38supPat
Should be fine in 9mm factory, forget the 9x21. As stated it was a workaround for 9mm major which is A) no longer an issue and B )not something I would shoot in a Beretta anyways. The aluminum frame will not last with a steady diet of major ammo nor likely will the slide or locking block. If you like the Beretta then run it in production or consider L10 or Open and load Minor

ramairthree
OK, In the early 90s I took a Beretta 92FS, this 9x21 barrel and comp, the Fiocchi ammo, and thought I had a high speed race gun shooting 9 Major. I had no mag well extension, just beveled the interior edges. I had not figured out how to mount my Aimpoint 1000 to it either. ramairthree
STEP 1. STEP 2. STEP 2.5 Had to cut down a lanyard loop and will have to drill and tap it for the EGW mag well. The flat already tapped hammer spring caps no longer exist.
ramairthree
STEP 3 The second try gave me a drilled/tapped hammer spring cap that lined the mag well extension up perfectly. But without enough tension down on it to hold it real securely. EGW still having the mag wells but not the hammer cap is very frustrating.
ramairthree
Come on. I know some of you must have some photos from back in the day with your Larry Bird short shorts, porn stat 'stashes, and souped up Berettas. Quit holding out on me. Wait, people don't dress like this anymore? I missed that memo. I believe I have some old photos of a nice "souped" Beretta from a guy I went to school with, I will have to track them down.
