Max It
here I go again: I have 500 147gn truncated cone moly coated bullets to load and just enough Bullseye to do the job. So with all the forum itel I have picked up I jacked up the load to compensate for the Moly to 4.7gn Bullseye. And I got tumbling bullets thru my XD9-Tactical (5" barrel). Lyman Cast Bullet book says 3.5 max for lead, should I drop down? Edited October 17, 2014 by Max It
Sandbagger123
so you put 4.7 with a 147 gr moly? it must have been a really saucy load. . 3.6 will @ 1.12 should get you 930-950 fps. please do not load the 4.7 for your hands sake
jstagn
If you are switching from FMJ or Plated bullets to moly you should be LOWERING your powder load, usually by about 10% for the same FPS....
Max It
guys, I should do that. it was kinda tough on my hand. Edited October 18, 2014 by Max It
AHI
3 to 3.2 will give you 130 to 135 power factor.
Max It
the problem for me with 3. to 3.2gn has always been the tumbling. I just loaded 5 or 6 each with 4.2 and 3.7gn and will head over to the nearby indoor range asap. I will let you guys know what happens.
Max It
hi ya, 3.2 gn works fine. so do all the others from 4.2 down; less is better BUT will they knock down 8" steel plates at 30-35 yards remains to be seen? I think I wont load all 500 until I can take some to the next competition. and I shot them thru my CZ. will my XD work as well? dnuke146
147gr. Bear Creaks with 3.0gr Bullseye at 1.160 out of my KKM 5" M&P pro knocks over full size poppers at 50yds all day long, you know, after they get there finally. I'm sure you'll be fine. wgj3
^ What he said. 147's carry a little extra bump to the steel. Unless you're using a 9mm in a match intended for magnum revolvers, the steel will fall just fine.
Max It
guys, I am from the 'more is better' group; 3.2gn Bullseye for now. at least until I shoot the match with these 100 rounds, then I can adjust down a tich. always good to save powder, especially now. accu9
I load 147gr bayous @ 1.45 with 3.1gr Bullseye and Remington Primers. 130pf and great feel.
AJE
I just got through 2,000 loaded with 3.0 grains, 147gr Blue Bullet (which actually weighs 149 according to my scale). I shot a few matches with them and never had to hit a popper more than once. I'm teetering in the middle between 3.0 and 3.1... 10 charges weigh in at 30.4 for my next couple thousand... just in case. They make about 126 PF in my sub compact Glock, IIRC 136 PF in my Glock 34.
