Glock porn

I just got back from the range and I shot back to back my ZEV 35 and the new sti marauder 40. I really didn't see much accuracy difference if at all. I shot 10 rounds at 25 yards and headbox shots at 10 yards and got about the same group size with both. All A's at 25 yards with both. But to be fair the glock has a 2lb trigger while the sti has a 4lb.

I love the glock stippled grip better. You can really lock down on it and it feels more secure in my hands. Feels like an extension of my body almost. The sti feels kinda awkward probably because I'm so used to the glocks.

The biggest difference was in recoil. The ZEV slide is extremely quick and violent. The sights seem to settle very quickly and ready for follow ups. The sti is soft and slow in comparison. The sights seem to bounce around a little more before settling.

Which do I prefer? I don't know! It's a tough call. However it is worth mentioning that the glock is heavily modified and the sti is almost stock. I think it will take a lot more shooting to figure out which I want to use for limited...

What spring weight are you running for recoil? Loading you own 40 or shooting factory?

I'll be loading 40. But haven't shot a 40, since forever. So your comment of the more violent Zev G35 have me a little concern. Maybe I can make a soft enought load that I'll enjoy shooting this gun.

I'm running a 15lb recoil spring on the ZEV and 180g reloads with a 170ish power factor.

If you have been shooting 9mm for awhile I think .40 will shock you out of any gun. I've shot 40 for a long time and when I tried 9mm again it was like shooting a 22. Lol..... I'm used to the recoil of my 40 ZEV and really enjoy shooting it. You just have to get used to it.......

Thanks for the info. I'll be loading some 180s as well. Hope to squeak just above the 165PF mark.

I'll be running a 13# spring to see.

I've also been shooting 45s, and enjoy that. So hope the reload 40s will be like a 9 +P.

I finally got my ZEV enhanced socom slide. Took a little while but I like it. eventually, I will get an RMR for it. I'm going to get the grip stippled but what do you guys think about cerakoting the grip FDE? Or leave it black?

FDE is really nice. but if it was mine, i'd just leave the frame black.

very nice glocks you have there.

Here is my new Glock 34 by Zev.....

Wow really nice!

Is that the dual illuminated RMR? Do you like it? I can't decide which way to go for my enhanced socom gun......

I was thinking about doing a barrel like that. How much did that set you back? Is it the TiN coating?

Oh forgot to tell you I am running my own reloads. 180g xtreme HP's @1.135" and 4.5g titegroup. I think it was around the 170-173PF...............I also added a ZEV extended guide rod and a 16lb spring. Unless I was dreaming the recoil was pretty nice. Still super fast. I really like shooting the Z35.

JPeel hooked me up with a KKM barrel for my Dragonfly. I think it sets of the cuts very nicely.

ZEVkkm1_zpsb0416cbd.jpg

And FWIW, I tried the triggers on his two pistols which (I think) had Glock Store trigger bars, and they were much nicer than my ZEV Ultimates......

Yep, looks awesome. For some reason I really want to get one of those TiN gold barrels with the fluting. I guess just to look tacticool......lol

Were they the pyramid trigger? (I believe those are the glock store triggers) I've looked at those a little bit and they look just like ZEV clones right down to the skeletonized firing pin. I've never tried one but had a friend who bought one. HE said the first was defective, sent it back, and the second one they sent had problems as well. I never asked what exactly was the problem because I was already using the ZEV stuff.......

In what way would you say they are nicer than the Ultimates?

Hopefully James Peel will chime in here to tell you exactly what he has in there. But the 34 had very little pre-travel, a clean crisp break and virtually no over-travel. My ZEVs are smooth and light, but have lots of travel both ways. I realize that part is adjustable, but I'm scared to mess with them!!

My personal opinion is that I hate the rolling break from a zev or zev like trigger, no matter how smooth or light it is. I like a trigger that has a definitive wall and then clean crisp break, even if it measures 4-4.5 lbs on the scale.

My favorite trigger combination in my competition guns and the one Trace liked most is the Orange County custom trigger bar / adjustable shoe combined with the Ghost Inc 5.0 tactical connector. I also use a 6lb trigger spring, 4lb striker spring, reduced power safety plunger spring and a zev lightened striker. I take nearly all the pre travel out with the adjustment screw in the trigger shoe, and post travel is taken care of by properly fitting the connector.

I've also tried the ghost 3.5 evo elite and the 3.5 rocket connectors. Both worked well and were smooth but didn't have the crisp break I like.

In my carry gun and night stand gun I am using the custom trigger bar and the ghost 4.5 ranger connector along with the 6lb trigger spring, but keep the std weight striker spring, safety plunger spring, and factory striker. This is still gives me a 4.5lb pull but a little different feel than the competition setup.

I've tried the same combination of parts with different connectors including zev and TTI and just can't get the crisp break that the ghost connectors give.

Dammit, that looks good. I'm going to have to break down and get one of those slides....
