MikeRush
Is there any way to polish or smooth up STI grips? I want to restore the smoothness to my grip where I performed the double undercut and clean that up- I've tried working through a few grits of sand paper but it stays somewhat "gummy". I am going to stipple the main surface of the grip, but would like the bottom of the trigger guard to be completely smooth and cosmetically uniform. Any tips or tricks to getting it smooth? I've seen some that looked good so that leads me to believe it is possible.
Ming the Merciless
Use a heat gun. Try it on an old grip or someplace out of sight first.
Jaxshooter
Put lacquer thinner on a rag wrapped around your finger and rub it back and forth lightly like polishing shoes.
Chris iliff
I would buy a good two part epoxy, clean the hell out of the grip with alcohol then smear the epoxy on, filling it in. I use to build my grip up using this. I went away from the practice, but could see how this could be used to smooth it up. The stuff I used was sanded easily. I would shape the crap out of it and then use skate tape. Worked great. I gotta have a pic somewhere. I'll see if I can post it.
EngineerEli
I found going up to an 800 grit sand paper does a pretty decent job. It feels smooth, but visually still has a mat finish.
Runnin2live
You can really get a smooth polish by going with a higher and higher grit sand paper you have to keep working it
PatJones
If you use wet/dry paper with water the paper will gum up less.
MikeRush
Thanks for all of the tips- I'll go over my grip this weekend after the match and see if I can't get it smooth with these techniques.
