Just curious what the black brush and red/white/blue cotton brush are used for?

Mine has a copper brush, a nylon brush, and I use the cotton one to leave a thin layer of oil in the barrel.

Sounds like a great use for the Cotton piece. Maybe the black one is for cleaning the mag body?

Isn't the black brush just a nylon or plastic bore brush?

I pretty much just use a bore mop (the cotton brush) 90% of the time to clean the barrel and chamber, and then a nylon brush on occasion to loosen gunk followed by the bore mop. Don't use a brass or bronze brush hardly if ever. I'm in the school of thought that over cleaning with a metalic brush wears out barrels faster than shooting them does.

You can use a baby bottle brush or just use a paint stirring stick to push a cotton rag throught the mag to clean the gunk out of that.

I sure hope a brass bristle brush is softer than the barrel innards. Oh my!

My thoughts exactly! But in reality, I think it's the minerals suspended in the water which erode the rock. Hard water.

I use a nylon brush to wrap my patch around for cleaning / lubing. Gives you a tighter fit and a more uniform cleaning. Once you get the "feel" of it you can tell if there is anything in the barrel that would require heavier cleaning(lead, copper etc).

My Springfield guns came with cheap little nylon bore brushes. Probably just another bore brush.
