Missing out on a Big Green Egg demo today

Boy! For such a steep price tag, that would definitely be in a "what I hate thread!". Ouch!

I'll probably just scrounge a 55 gallon steel barrel and make an Ugly Drum Smoker first, plenty of YouTube videos on how to make one.

I'm a glutton for punishment, so I asked the demo cook to email me pics. I'll post them later.

Agreed. Everybody I talked to said it is great but a bunch of those same folks were on their second lid. I guess they probably drop them closed too hard or something. I actually exchanged a few for customers that had cracked tops. Probably used to using the old weber that could be dropped, kicked, etc.. lol

That is a definitely a rumor. If you drop the top enough I'm sure something would break, since it is ceramic after all, but if you take care of your stuff, you will never have a problem. 8 years and counting.

My 15 year old BGE is heating up now. I have had to replace two bottom cast iron grates. Something about 750 degree fire just wears them out after a while. 750 does a hell of a job on a steak though. 2 min, flip 2 min done. Less if it's not thick.
