EricW
OK, so let me get this straight... Wheat goes for less than five bucks a bushel. Oats are similarly priced. Yet, more often than not, a tiny box of cereal at the store sports a $4-5 price tag. If this keeps up, the stores need to start posting the number for the nearest Rape Crisis Center. What a rip! Jon Merricks
It's way out of control. The boxes probably cost more than the cereal. For a Cerealholic it really puts a hurting on ya.
ErikW
Packaging, marketing, etc., not necessarily in that order. Wheat? Oats? One of the biggest ingredients is sugar!
Flexmoney
We (USA) still have protective tariffs that raise the price of sugar that consumers pay.
EricW
Sugar? $.50/lb $.25/lb in bulk, mabye if that? What I hate more than anything is the marketing. I'll bet that is the single biggest cost of most consumer products.
Flexmoney
mmmmmmmmmmm....marketing...tasty, sugar-coated marketing.
SiG Lady
What's worse than cereal is soda pop...! Totally worthless substance: water, sugar, and caramel coloring (that comes in 50-gal drums for cheap). Then advertised all to hell as the solution (pun intended) to all our problems! Bleh. Poison! Rather drink coffee.
Flexmoney
soda-pop...what about bottled water!
Nik Habicht
MMMmmmmmmmm Pellegrino! Gotta go get one now....
SiG Lady
Bottled water... yet another great rip-off, you bet!
TheOtherErik
The biggest rip off of all is the cans of compressed air they sell for cleaning keyboards and such. Air is Free! Talk about pure profit. Erik-
SiG Lady
TOE-- ...And they're even more expensive than bottled water! (I just got two on sale, though.)
BSeevers
Bottled Water My favorite would you believe it. If I would have asked you in 1985 to invest in a operation selling bottled water for $9 or more a gallon you would have said maybe you missed your dose of medication today? If we only had known everybody, including me, would gladly pay that much for bottled water, more for flavoring?? Only in America PS Kyle be glad you don't have a teenage boy. They have been reported to eat a whole box in one sitting!! (Edited by BSeevers at 8:42 pm on Oct. 23, 2002)
gm iprod
He must have good teeth, those boxs are real tough. Did he soak it in milk first or just go for it. RM (Edited by gm iprod at 1:29 am on Oct. 25, 2002)
Shooter Grrl
Bottle water is an absolute necessity here in this part of Kalifornia - the water is SO bad, it literally made me sick the first month we lived here!!! I'll pay whatever they ask for for the bottled stuff!
