Any load data with a similar profile bullet (of similar construction) will work as a reference point because your gun is going to be different anyway, so pairing it up with just MG bullets doesn't help much. Clays at Major PF in .40 is for experienced reloaders....I've reloaded a couple hundred thousand rounds and won't mess with that combination. JayJayJay Posted May 10, 2011 Author Share Posted May 10, 2011 WOW, I am scared to use CLAYs now! I guess I will just load minor for practice and use up the CLAYs I have. I only have 2 lbs of it anyways. I am now unclear on what powder I will use. I have been reading here and on other sites and it seems everyone has the powder they like. I just wish I could get a powder that everyone likes. I was going to just use #7 but the guys at the match last month told me not to use it because it was to slow burning. So I got the CLAYs and now after reading it seems like I may not want to use this CLAYs after I use it up. I will keep reading untill I find a powder, buy it and try it out. I reloaded some rounds at OAL 1.125 with 3.4 grains of CLAYs and a few with 3.6 grains. I will crono them ans see what they do. If the gun works with them I will justy use the CLAYs untill I run out and than move on to another powder. Thanks for all your help and again relax "search function police". jimzim Posted May 10, 2011 Share Posted May 10, 2011 I wouldn't recommend Clays for your G35 (KABOOM from experience in my G22), but having said that, I've had no problems with Clays and MG 180 gr going major PF in my Tangfolio, but these are loaded out to 1.225 OAL. MTGld 180gr JHP Hodgdon HS-6 6.3 grains Various brass Winchester Small Pistol OAL 1.12 it got me avg 922fps on my CED Chrono and a power factor of 166. That's a real thin margin so I think I'll add a couple tenths more, call it 6.5 grains and call it good. Altitude was appx 600 ft., temp around 70ish and humaditty was 45+. Hope that helps. oops didn't even see the request for Clays sorry. My load for Clays was 3.1 but that was coming out at about 128PF so next time I'll add a couple tenths more also. Don't use Clays for Major and I have about 2.5 pounds left also. After that meh, I don't know what i'll use but with all the warnings I've heard why bother? Unless you can't get anything else. Everything else was same as above. Keep a close eye on the charge if you're using Clays it doesn't fill the case much and it's easy to over look. In my experience even if you double charge Clays it's hard to spot so I use . . . HS-6 it fills the case almost half full and is easy to see as do some of the other's mention I'd imagine. But dang in the days it was hard getting a hold of powder Clays was available and you could make a lot of boolits with just one pound! Hodgdon lists 3.5gr as a max load w/ a 180gr XTP at 1.125 for a listed velocity of 847fps. 3.0gr is the start load for 727fps. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Bullseye meters real consistent in dillon, not particularly expensive, its easy to get from powder valley, I use it in other calibers. It works for me.
