samtheman
how can the grip screw be removed from the bushing without damageing the threads on the grip screw bushings.
jpl
Put lock-tite on the bushings and screw them back into the frame. Let it set up and then remove the grips as you normally would.
RH45
I just took mine off with a vise grips and put new ones in with blue locktite so it wouldn't happen again.
Intel6
The best way I have found to get the screw out without damaging the bushing is to use a pair of wire cutters. There is a unthreaded spot above the threads on the bushing and I use the wire cutters to grab lightly on the part (the gripping surface is very small compared to pliers)and it gives enough resistence to get the grip screw out and there is no damage to the bushing. Clean everything up and blue locktight the bushings in the frame. Neal in AZ
Braxton1
Both of the methods described by jpl and Intel6 work well. If you want to avoid problems in the future with this, don't tighten the grip screws so much. The bushings are staked in. They should'nt come out. It doesn't take a whole lotta torque to keep grips on a 1911. Most of the ones that I've seen come out were in guns that had grips that were changed by the owner. They crank down on those screws hard. "If a little torque is 'good', then more must be better!"
Mike21STI
that has happened to me before, as was said previously, Loctite works wonders.
