  1. I had a cmore on my open gun with the traditional mount. It worked OK, but I had the same problem as described above. I wanted to try a tube dot, but was unwilling to pay $500 for a Aimpoint Micro and custom mount (now not necessary), so I found a used Aimpoint CompM XD and mount on the cheap. I love it! I will never go back to C-More. There's something about the tube that lets me quickly and easily find the dot and get on target. It's like having two sights, one for localization, and one for real aiming. My eye and mind seem to use the tube to point he gun and find the dot, then I use the dot to shoot. I've even shot a stage without the dot once, and didn't have any mikes. I'd like to see a C-more guy do that without a lot of trouble.
  2. Was the turn around because of EAA and their slow shop, or because Tanfoglio didn't know for sure how to fix it?
  3. About the powder-thru-expanded: Hornady redesigned the expanded profile recently, and are also adding an adjustable sliding stop to the measure. If you have both, powder thru expanding works much better now. I'm not sure if the sliding stop is available yet, but it should be soon.
  4. I loved my canon s500, had it for years. Easy to use and good pics and video. I'd buy canon again.
  5. Fresh blog entry this evening.
  6. Oops, right. That was a typo. Should be flair, then powder drop. I too had trouble adjusting the powder thru expander, but Hornady is making a new slider adjustment for the powder drop that will simplify the process. PM me if you want details.
  7. I understand some people here love Dillon, but could they refrain from bashing others please? I have a Hornady LNL press, and it has been working great for me. I did have to call customer support about a problem, and they sent me a replacement part the same day. It was the exact same experience I had when my Dillon press had a problem. Now, to answer the original question... I agree with an above post, I've never seen a resizing die that also flairs the brass. Here's what I have in my Hornady LNL AP press for 38 super: Station 1: resize and decap (Dillon Die) Station 2: powder drop and flair (Hornady powder measure + powder thru expander) Station 3: empty (waiting for bullet feeder) Station 4: Bullet Seating (Dillon Die) Station 5: Crimp Die (Hornady) I have a mix of dies because that is what I had handy when I setup 38 super. Alternative 1: Station 1: resize and decap Station 2: powder drop Station 3: flair Station 4: bullet seat Station 5: Crimp Alternative 2: combine seating and crimping (I do this for 45ACP) Steve, you can either buy a powder-thru-expander from Hornady (if you use a Hornady powder measure), or you can buy a flairing die (any brand). If you're paying for shipping anyway, I'd also get a 'pistol rotor' for the Hornady powder measure. It has a more consistent drop, and is easier to make fine adjustmetns than the standard size rotor (for small charges needed in pistols). The Dillon dies you are currently using will work great. Flairing is always done later, no matter what brand dies you have. I hope you have the eZject system. It makes adjusting the crimp die a lot easier. I just got the conversion kit from Hornady last week, but have not installed it. I need to clean my bench so I can video tape the conversion process.
  8. How about some mosquito netting around your bench?
  9. My current load: 38 supercomp (starline) 7.4 of 7625 winchester small pistol primers (WSP) 170pf with 8ports + comp Primers look fine, no signs of excessive over pressure. In the past, when loading 38 short colt, WSP looked fine, Fed looked flatter. I assumed that this was because the Fed were softer. Changing primers from WSP to Fed should not have drastically increased pressures. So, I need primers! I'm running out of WSP. I found some Federal Match SP primers. I'm thinking about using them for my open gun. If I see signs of pressure with Fed primers and the same load as WSP (flattening, but not cratering), should I worry? Any reason not to use the Fed primers in my open gun? Any possible problems? My alternative is to borrow a box of WSP from a generous friend, but I hate to take advantage of him and worry that he might run out. I have an order in at Grafs for 5k for myself since May, and I'm hearing rumors that backorders from April are starting to show up. Going to the Nationals in Sept, so I need to feel good about my ammo.
  10. I got a big white envelope from USPSA. It had an entry form, a squadding form, and a 2-sided explanation of squadding request procedures/priorities. I just threw my squadding info out, since I'm going alone and don't need that form.
  11. I've started a new blog, a first for me. I'm going to include articles and information about preparing for and going to the USPSA Nationals this September. My plan is to include updates (pictures and writings) live from the match via my new iPhone. If I can figure out how, I might upload videos to youtube, and link to them from my blog. 12. From the top surface of the table on which the press is mounted to the top of the bowl is 38 inches. Good Luck!
  13. A question to make sure I'm reading your graph correctly: With the provided criteria (load and dot height), a 20 yard zero and a 6 MOA dot, at 5 yards the bullet will strike low by approximately the perceived width of the dot and at 50 yards, the bullet will strike near the top of the red dot, correct? Sorry for the late reply. yes you are reading the graph correctly.
  14. I bought my LNL AP press and feeder as a kit. It was definately cheaper than the 650, especially as the kit. The free bullet offer adds to the savings. The 650 case feeder is just the bowl and motor and chute. You get all the rest of the parts with 650 press. The LNL is opposite, you get the bowl, motor, chute, and all the other feeder parts when you buy the feeder. Anyway, try cabelas and natchess and midway for the press. I know they had good prices about 6 months ago on the combo (press+feeder). I have not had any problems with my case feeder. Of course, I fill it with a few hundred cases at a time.
  15. Big thanks to Hornady for sponsoring my trip to the Nationals.
  16. Yea, I bought a bunch of stuff from them, it all arrived but took a long time. I think they save money by being extremely low overhead. I'm guessing they wait until they have a bunch of orders, then go over to the Lee Factory for a mass-purchase. I've always gotten my order from them, exactly as ordered, no issues. However, they take a long time and aren't much on communicaitons.
  17. SiGLady, Aren't you in Euguene? I'm surprised the local population allows K9 units! I figured some enterprising lawyer would sue on behalf of the dogs for emancipation. Plus, what do they need dogs for? The criminals can't run very fast wearing sandals, and it's hard to conceal a weapon under tie-dyed hemp! Just kidding, sorry about that. It's just every time I go to Eugene, I see somthing that reminds me of UC Berkley. There's something funny and a little sad about a former redneck dressed in wicker sandals with dreadlocks, trying to act like they live in SF, but really don't have a clue.
  18. Check out some of the charts I made on page 3 of this thread: http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=4236 They show how different trajectories, dot heights, and dot sizes overlap and let you pick a distance for zero that will best fit your needs. Each graph is for a specific bullet and dot height, but I made several of them for different people.
  19. Yes, didn't realize the attachment limit size was smaller than my picture. Had to edit the image, then edit the post to include the smaller image. Sorry 'bout that.
  20. Check out the incredible stretching slide! Note the position of the slide at the muzzle end (at rest) and the motion and position of the slide at the hammer. It's a cool artifact of the digital camera's non-interlaced row/column addressing and data reading scheme. The camera starts to read the sensor data from the top and/or the right before the slide starts moving, but by the time it reads the data from the other end, the slide has started to move. A photo buff buddy said that a similar artifact happen with old cameras taking pics of race cars, since the shutter moved from top to bottom, capturing the top of the image sooner than the bottom, causing a stretching effect (sometimes resulting in eliptical shaped wheels). What do you think? Edit x2: improved image quality for web
  21. The exact same thing happened to me at TriCounty last year!! I had a WSM II holster (with the rod and set screw). Mine slowly slide down the rod as I walked and fell off on my way to the 1st stage. Same thing, got an RO and went to the safety area....
  22. I bought mine for 9mm and smaller. I figured that's the smallest needed at any USPSA match...
  23. Thanks for the info everyone! Yes, I'lll hope for an Aimpoint Micro. Jan, I'll probably come down on Sunday to sight in my Aimpoint XD, freshly back from repair. Have a friend who wants to go to the Machine Gun shoot, so I'll probably join him.
  24. So, my wife is trying to determine if she is coming to the nationals with me (open/production). There are lots of complications (kids, inlaws, etc). One factor will be the hotel. She likes to stay at hotels on the strip, and enjoys trying different hotels each time. Although the Orleans (official Nats hotel) is obviously a nice place, she likes to walk the strip, is more familiar with the area, and wants to stay at a strip hotel. I am worried that there will be lots of USPSA related activities and perks at The Orleans, and I will miss them by staying at another hotel. Assuming that I have my own transportation, and that I attend the awards ceremony, will I be missing any perks or activities? At the Area-1 last year, the hotel was, well, just a hotel (plus a common dining place for many competitors). How much, if any, of the 'happenings' associated with the Nationals are at the hotel? I'd like her to come, and am willing to stay on the strip instead. I just need to know what I may miss. Thanks for any info or advice. Edit: Question, anyone know if there will be a shuttle to the range from the Orleans, or is everyone renting a car?
