  1. Glad it's not just me. I'd noticed that as well on my new-to-me M1 Super 90 with a Nordic tube after I took it apart the second or third time. FWIW, I took it apart again, took a little more care/paid a little more attention when inserting the receiver into the barrel and the forend seemed to fit a bit snugger. Don't think it was just my imagination, but who knows. I had been searching the parts schematics on Brownell's Web site to see if I was missing a shim washer or something. Curtis
  2. I find no problem with the stock extended mag release and slide release, though many do. If you reload you may want to consider changing to a stainless guide rod and 13# spring eventually if you running ammo in the low to mid 130s PF. I see some trigger work in your future eventually as well: I find the Lonewolf 3.5# connector much more crisp than the OEM Glock 3.5, which is mushy, IMO. YMMV. I like Vanek triggers. I like TruGrip instead of skateboard tape because of how it's cut to conform around the finger grooves...worth the couple extra bucks. You'll probably find the G34 more accurate than you are. I had a good day recently and placed 4 out of 5 rounds into a one inch group at 25 yds shooting for the upper A box...this is from a G34 with nearly 50K rounds through the barrel. Wish I could do that on demand...unfortunately I can't and today's practice wasn't nearly so impressive , but the point is, the G34 can do it if you do your part. You already have upgraded sights, so that's about all it takes to make a full-zoot Production race gun...don't you love it EDITED: because I hate typos and had a couple more thoughts!
  3. Duane, that's sort of like comparing a two mikes to a perfect double in the upper A zone Curtis
  4. Or just get all three...that's what I did...eventually The G34 is great for competition, the G19 excels for CC, and the G17 is a great backup for either. Curtis
  5. I really like the accuracy and shootability of 3.3 grains of Titegroup and a 147 gr. Zero JHP. Chronos at a PF of 136-8 in my G34. Curtis
  6. Gee, that's what Production was before the rule interpretations.... Ah, for the good ol' days before the BOD decided to "fix" Production Curtis
  7. FullRace, you win the kewpie doll Curtis
  8. ...just that $3,000 smoking hole in my bank account Curtis
  9. If the rule is meant to be a list of examples, it sure would be handy to have ", etc." tacked on the end of the last bullet, or some language to the effect of "and other small parts not externally visible on the gun". My point exactly. While the rule AS WRITTEN reads as only those named components are considered "minor components", I think it does not take a large leap of logic to see they probably MEANT it to be list of examples. There needs to be "etc." or "other small externally non-visible internal parts" added on to the existing wording for clarification. You have a big Amen on that from me. I guess my problem was I was assuming the "etc." or "other small externally non-visible internal parts" was the intent and now, perhaps, it is being suggested that it was never the intent. Time for the BOD to clarify so we can put the uncertainty to rest. Curtis
  10. Sent in my check today. Haven't been to Corpus in quite sometime and really looking forward to this match. Curtis
  11. I never could buy this argument, personally. Adding $200 total in parts to tune a $500 pistol isn't what I would call race or even pseudo-race. Now $2,000+ guns...now that's where racing starts to be racing IMO. When I roadraced motorcycles on an amateur basis the Suzuki cup series was immensely successful, based on rules which allowed limited tuning mods to GSXR sports bikes. These sort of mods weren't expensive or limited to a few competitors, just made the bikes more responsive and more race-worthy...probably safer to boot. The Superbike or Formula classes were there for those wanted the ultimate performance and were willing to spend to get it. I've always seen the parallel to Production, Limited and Open classes. Maybe we need a claiming rule like in the Suzuki Cup series...any Production gun can be claimed by any other competitor after a match for, say, $700 . That ought to keep the mods reasonable You make a very valid point when I overstated the case about being blindsided...I followed the draft rule discussions carefully but realize now that I was so focused on the proposed trigger pull proposals that I failed to see the other chickens apparently coming home to roost...not just setscrews in triggers but aftermarket connectors in question as well. I've shot GSSF and, frankly, stock Glocks are nowhere near the fun of shooting one with limited trigger mods. But that's my problem...like anyone else, if I don't like the rules, I don't have to play. However, as I joked with Charlie Vanek in a recent e-mail: reading about politics, the economy...or now, Production rules...is a quick one-way trip to a bad mood and a ruined day I still maintain Production wasn't broke, why did they try to fix it with rules to vague to be detailed and too detailed to be vague. Curtis Edited to clarify a point or two and because I hate typos
  12. Do I just hook the tape measure to their UNIT Dang, Jim, that's just WRONG!
  13. And to think, all I was worried about last year when the rules were discussed was minimum trigger pull. I feel blindsided and am getting so sick of what the USPSA has apparently done with the Production rules that I'm ready to can Production for good and take my G34 with its Vanek Production trigger and just shoot Limited minor. No one with any integrity wants to be a cheater, but why did Production morph into a box stock category? I'm seriously longing for the old rules at this point and guess I will take my Glock and play in another classification. But I sure as heck ain't happy about it. As I told someone today at a steel match, if I thought a high-bucks limited gun at three times the cost would be three times the fun, I'd sign up today. A couple of minor and economical mods that make a Glock more fun to shoot was all I wanted. All because of an internal set screw installed in a stock Glock trigger housing...who woulda thunk it Curtis Edited to add: moderators, feel free to move this to What I Hate if you feel I'm inappropriately drifting this thread with this rant.
  14. From the looks of the COFs last year it looks like it could be lotsa fun. A couple of questions, though, from someone unfamiliar with your monthly carbine matches. I understand it's IDPA scoring, but are the rest of the rules IDPA based, i.e. use of cover, IDPA style reloads, no cleats, etc., etc., or more USPSA freestyle? I didn't see any link to rules on the Web site provided but I might have missed something. Curtis
  15. A clear call...you made the right one IMO. Curtis
  16. ...and just remembered a biggie... the amazing amount of expertise and help to be found on forums like this for any interest you might have. Used to have to rely on trial and failure...er, I mean, error Curtis
  17. Sort of the world at your fingertips, from shopping to research...what's not to like once you have broadband Curtis
  18. Here's hoping your setback is very temporary and you end up with a much better position than the one you lost. It's really a bummer to hear fellow forum members losing jobs. Curtis
  19. Just smooth/polish the top and sides of the firing pin safety a little...that's where the improvement would be, not in the hole itself, IMO. All the customer trigger jobs from Sotello, Vanek, etc. polish this piece.
  20. For my Mark IV chrono/timer, the short answer is yes. But I've found it's essential to shield the unit from the muzzle blast (I keep it in a portable compact disc bag) and to keep the sensor wires parallel to each other---not overlapping. Once I discovered those things...and use it only when the sun is pretty much overhead (middle of the day is best)...I've found it nearly 100 percent reliable. Even works after a couple of rounds blow out part of the sensors Curtis
  21. Check to see if your local Cabella's has this sale through 12/10: 200 rd. boxes of Federal American Eagle Tactical XM193 for $74.99. Check the Cabella's Web site for a $20 off coupon on a $100 purchase and make your wallet even happier Unfortunately, my area Cabella's is nearly 2 hours away or I'd pick up a couple of boxes. Curtis
  22. No promises...but with my new used Simmons 1.5 -5X I might actually hit some of the rifle targets in the A zone next time And that JP trigger is oh-so-sweet Should be a good shooter if I do my part...the 100 yd. target Jim Clark showed me before he tossed it in the case had 5 shots that could be covered with a dime The bad news was he only had three receivers and they're working on the last one---looks like I timed my order perfectly. Curtis
  23. Full H-BAR with carbon handguard...just over 3 weeks Curtis
  24. ...and let's not forget the USPSA discount Clark offers on its ARs/uppers. Curtis
  25. Looking forward to skipping out on work and driving up to Princeton to pick it up tomorrow. Curtis
